Fulham bid for Cork

I guess the 'problem' for Cork is that he's not what you would call an 'impact sub'. So, if he can't get in the starting 11 he's not necessarily going to be a good option off the bench unless we're looking to consolidate a game. So, maybe Cork is more likely to be a sub versus the 'bigger' teams where we'll be happier playing for a draw than vs the likes of Norwich where MP would be expecting a win.

We might be reading to much into the team selection. If we had a fully fit squad i.e. Shaw and Clyne starting then I'd imagine Cork would have made then bench with one of the full backs dropping out. Would of been very harsh to not include Davis after two goals in mid week.

Could there be last minute fitness assessments and Jack might be required for the bench. Certainly would be more than gutted if Cork is offloaded. A year ago he was playing for the England set up and ended up injured when we needed him most. Have felt since towards the end of last season Pochettino doesn't see rate him or see him in his long term plans.

Jack Cork has travelled to Norwich & is with squad despite not being in final 18. We have a squad of more than 18 players, they can't all be involved every week.

Typical patronising life-is-a-computer-game response from you.

He's now a proven Prem midfielder, he is better than not making the 18 for a club like Saints. If he wants to go I wouldn't blame him.

We don't like players who go or stay at clubs to just collect wages

We have better squad depth now then... well, any other point I can remember!

Selling Cork would be nuts. But equally, we let Punch go.

This.

I wonder if we really have such deep pockets, or if really its going to be "one in, one out".

If thats the case, we can forget squad depth and seriously cracking on to win anything.

Cork-Spider partnership was arguably the best in the league last year, position for position. Even the media were purring over them when not licking Fergie's arse. Then there was the superb stats.

Cannot believe MP has effectively dissolved such an effective force, even if he's not sold.

Seeing both of them next to each other on the bench at the end - now that was a real WTF moment. Has he tried to fix something that wasn't broken in the slightest?

I think what frustrated Pochettino was that Cork was more of a position type player. He's not incredibly pacey and Pochettino probably thinks Wanyama has that about him. The same with the shooting issue.

In this case, I think it's more down to manager attribute preferences than tactics or even player quality really. You have to give the leader some freedom for his own tastes I'm afraid.

MP on this rumour

Pochettino also poured cold water on reports that midfielder Jack Cork could be on his way to Fulham.

“There’s no offer from Fulham,” he said.

Asked if he would be willing to sell him, Pochettino responded: “He’s a first-team squad member, he’s a part of this team. If we start selling players we’re only going to be left with just 11 players, so no.”

As Wanyama is travelling to Kenya for internationals it will be interesting to see if Cork is selected ahead of him against West Ham given Cork will not have had the travelling etc.

I bloody hope so anyway, put the partnership wuth Morgan back together again !

Absolutely this, Spider/Jack partnership was a long way from requiring a fix, needs to be reinstated.

I agree. But in the manager's eyes it clearly did need fixing, Cork got subbed off in a few games towards the end of the season. It was fairly clear that MP wasn't as enamoured with the partnership as fans were.

he took him off in the WBA game at the en of last season and although we weren't playing well before it, after the swap we went to pot. We became so open and ragged it's not true. Terrible decision on the day if you ask me. Bringing back Cork won't solve all problems, it might not solve any, but if there was one area of the park we didn't need to change it was CM.

We were chasing the game -and decided to bring on another attacker.

It wasn't a like for like substitution but a calculated gamble which didnt pay off but was reasonable enough. In fact, we were probably more ragged while Cork was on the pitch. We were certainly cut open more times in the first half.

This is now the territory we are in. We now have excellent competition for most places in the side. This is where the manager really needs to excel.

Keeping everyone happy/hungry/ready is a skill that the likes of Fergie/Wenger really mastered the art of.

It will be interesting to see how Pochettino handles this. Cork losing his starting place is real test of his character too. Morgan doesn't look as effective without his wingman either. Hmm.

Amazing !..another non-story coming out of one of the " funny papers ".

There was no response form either named club and MP said that there was no bid in for Jack Cork and that he was a member of the squad we didn't want to lose.:?:

I doubt it was a non-story. Would be very surprised if Clubs haven't at least inquired, a key player for us last year and seemingly reverted to just a member of the 18.
