Noodles34 Posted 27 August, 2013 Posted 27 August, 2013 We are off next year with the kids to Australia for a month, stopping in Singapore een route. So was wondering if anyone has any good info on hotels for families i.e. big room/adjoining room/suites in the cities above. Looking for middle class, ideally don't want to sleep right next to the kids, but cost is obviously crucial. Any fact based suggestions would be appreciated.
Batman Posted 27 August, 2013 Posted 27 August, 2013 do not go to orchard towers in singapore at night.....well, not with the family anyway singers is easily one of the best places on earth I have been to. brilliant city
dubai_phil Posted 27 August, 2013 Posted 27 August, 2013 http://www.asiawebdirect.com/ I use them all the time for hotels in Asia. They can also arrange Airport Transfers IF you don't want to play with taxis Sydney? Darling Harbour. Novotel or Ibis brilliant locations HTH
saintdavey Posted 28 August, 2013 Posted 28 August, 2013 Singapore has many decent hotels so all depends on budget. Location in the city area isn't really an issue as everywhere is so easy to get to. Feel free to list some hotel options you come up with and I'll let you know if decent

Hey, Having traveled from the UK to Aus via Singapore a number of times the best places we've found to stay in Singapore are either the Fairmont or the Swissotel The Stamford. Above a huge shopping mall for the missus, has a great pool for the kids and an excellent Indian Restaurant (Shahi Maharani) for you. Also central for Boat and Collyer Quay and can walk to the Merlion etc... Also the Marina Bay Sands is good and kid friendly but can be expensive - has an awesome pool though. As Phil mentioned, Darling Harbour is a good bet and most of the rooms in the Novotel have 2x double beds. For Melbourne, we've stayed at the Novotel St Kilda which is OK but I'd suggest a serviced appt (look for Quest or Mantra).

saintdavey Posted 28 August, 2013 Posted 28 August, 2013 The Goodwood park Hotel seems good and reasonably priced? The Goodwood Park Hotel is Orchard Road area which is great if all you want to do is shop (I avoid Orchard Road at all costs!) The Fairmount or the Swissotel The Stamford are ideally located as it's not only on top of a shopping mall but also City Hall MRT station where you can get to virtually everywhere easily. Boat Quay (where I own a bar!) is only one stop away and Orchard Road a few stops. Marina Bay Sand is great if you can get a good deal. The Infinity Pool on the roof is amazing but don't drink there as it's very expensive.
Viking Warrior Posted 28 August, 2013 Posted 28 August, 2013 Raffles if you can afford it and some other hotel the open a short while ago and has un upturned ship as its roof
Viking Warrior Posted 28 August, 2013 Posted 28 August, 2013 The changi village in netheravon road not too far from the airport is good or if you want somewhere central something like the amaranth in tanking pager road it's in china town area there's some good ones in the marina Bay Area as well
Batman Posted 28 August, 2013 Posted 28 August, 2013 Raffles if you can afford it and some other hotel the open a short while ago and has un upturned ship as its roof I stayed at the Carlton Ritz over the road from Raffles. Lovely place
Deeps Posted 28 August, 2013 Posted 28 August, 2013 Me and the better half stay at the Intercontinental when we go on our annual Hols. It's a superb hotel, and the Metro Station (probably one of the most efficient and cleanest in the world) is underneath the shopping precint that the hotel is more or less on top of.

Traders Hotel just off Orchard Road is a good place to stay.
Noodles34 Posted 28 August, 2013 Author Posted 28 August, 2013 Raffles if you can afford it and some other hotel the open a short while ago and has un upturned ship as its roof We went there for the famous High Tea when we backpacking years ago, we looked out of place to say the least and we ate a lot of sandwiches and cake. Still prefer the night markets though, presume still plenty around in the city?
max_saints Posted 29 August, 2013 Posted 29 August, 2013 Marina Bay Sands is latest 'hot' place to stay at because of its infinity pool overlooking the city. But if you have kids, why not stay in the Resorts World Sentosa. Lots of family friendly hotels like the Hard Rock with big family suites and many attractions to visit nearby like Universal Studios and the new aquarium. A bit of a hassle to travel to the central area, where the shopping (if thats your thing) is at, though.

Sentosa is a good call, but it's far from typical Singapore, a great day out but not a place I would recommend to stay if you are only here for a few of days.
Barry Sanchez Posted 2 January, 2014 Posted 2 January, 2014 Rydges on Pitt Street in Sydney is very good and in Melbourne Crowne Plaza is always a good bet but to be fair have not stayed there in a while. The budget is key, how long are you there for as hire serviced apartments is a great way of doing it your way and they are very central. The cities in OZ are great BUT if you have time get out to the Hunter Valley from Sydney and for Melbourne head out East not West as most go to and head out to Rosebud along the Mornington Peninsula.

Thanks for that, shouldn't have bumped the thread really, cause I have started a more specific one now that I have booked a hotel. Maybe you can help on the getting around thread?
