messi so'n'so Posted 27 August, 2013 Share Posted 27 August, 2013 Would Southampton FC profit from the sale of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid (or any other team)? Was there a clause in the sale of Bale to THFC that included a sale on % ? I am assuming not,but it would be great if someone could clear this up for me. We cashed in in the sell on fee, when we were in admin (Or just before), but there seems to be some sort of UEFA development fee that should net us a couple of million. Matthew Le God Posted 27 August, 2013 Share Posted 27 August, 2013 We've had 39 threads on Gareth Bale... http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/search.php?searchid=694419 The answer to this question is in a lot of them.

Charlie Wayman Posted 27 August, 2013 Share Posted 27 August, 2013 Of course there wasn't, the idiots running the club at that time were of the cash-in-our-chips now variety. I doubt they had the vision to see how far the kid might go. In any case who's to say he would have developed so well had he stayed here, it was probably later tutelage that honed his skills to the level we see today. For sure we raised him and set him on the right path but how much more could we have taught him? That's why you send your nice bright children to good schools because if you have any knowse at all you will know your own limitations at educating your kids. Others can do it better. But the club cashed in on it a year after Bale left in 2008 and also got Tommy Forecast.
Batman Posted 27 August, 2013 Share Posted 27 August, 2013 Why should we get more. We got about £8m+ already for a lanky left back that had high potential That is already about 10% of what he is worth now He is so far removed from the player that left saints, he is virtually unrecognisable

We got about £8m+ already for a lanky left back that had high potential That is already about 10% of what he is worth now He is so far removed from the player that left saints, he is virtually unrecognisable Because the rules of developing players say we get more. And the other reason we would have got more is because (originally) we had an agreement with Spurs which said we'd get more. It's not difficult, we would have got more because Spurs said we would as part of the deal. We then changed the deal. I completely disagree with you re: "unrecognisable" as well. He's changed physically, has experience at a higher level, has changed his free kick style, and is playing in a more involved position. That's about it, he was running past players for fun in the Championship from left back and scored an awesome free-kick in first few games. This has been done to death though. What did they ever do? Players who leave us and don't quite fulfil their potential: entirely the fault of the buying club, he was brilliant when he left us. You have to have a system on here. melmacian_saint Posted 27 August, 2013 Share Posted 27 August, 2013 How much of the 10% development fee do we actually get? It's meant to be for any club that he played for aged 12 to 23 years old. Given that we only had him for half, does that mean only 5%? So 4.55 million? A really good sell-on fee for the LEFT-BACK that we had, it would be catastrophic if it were for the winger he is (but never was for us, or for half of his time at Tottenham).
