Olallana Posted 24 August, 2013 Share Posted 24 August, 2013 Por favor, Sr. Pochettino. Siga haciendo entrevistas en español, siempre es divertido ver cómo ese pueblo garrapatas en twitter.

CanadaSaint Posted 25 August, 2013 Share Posted 25 August, 2013 One thing that struck me today was the animated touchline discussion he had with Wanyama and (I think it was) JWP. Methinks he can hablar Inglés much better than he'd like us to think.

Methinks he can hablar Inglés much better than he'd like us to think. Chris Kamara on soccer saturday said he had talked to MP and that his english was almost perfect. It´s that he is worried that if he does it all in english that he will miss what the journos are saying and misunderstand the questions..
diggers Posted 25 August, 2013 Share Posted 25 August, 2013 Have any one us mere morals caught him speak-e-ing de-English yet? He quite clearly can or all the team have been on a crash Rosettastone courses.
david in sweden Posted 25 August, 2013 Share Posted 25 August, 2013 Chris Kamara on soccer saturday said he had talked to MP and that his english was almost perfect. It´s that he is worried that if he does it all in english that he will miss what the journos are saying and misunderstand the questions.. I've seen clips of MP speaking English (a subject I teach, btw)...I'd say it's " passable " and reasonable by some standards, but can surely be regarded as " perfect" - when compared to Chris Kamara IMHO - it's good PR to use the interpreter, because it's obvious that journo's try to put in spontaneous / controversial /awkward questions in order to get a headline. Reading his (MP) body language, I'd guess he understands 90% of the question, but using the interpreter gives him "more thinking time " before he answers. Foreign statesmen do it all the time. Toon Saint Posted 25 August, 2013 Share Posted 25 August, 2013 I don't think it will be too long before Poch is doing interviews in English - although it really doesn't bother me with the current set up. Watched the post match presser for yesterdays game on the Daily Fail website, and you can see from his body language that he is getting pretty agitated with the rigmarole of the translation process - puffing his cheeks, grinding his teeth, etc. He clearly understands what is being put to him in English, but maybe lacks the confidence to reply as fluently as he would like. BARCELONASAINT Posted 25 August, 2013 Share Posted 25 August, 2013 I said when he first arrived at Saints he could speak English perfectly well and i said he choose to use an interpretur because he does not want the british press taking anything he says out of context....but no one choose to listen and just slagged him off! Plonko Posted 26 August, 2013 Share Posted 26 August, 2013 I thought the funniest bit about the Kamara interview was when Stelling went from talking about Osvaldo being a Johnny Depp lookalike to introducing Kamara as being a Lionel Ritchie lookalike. alpine_saint Posted 26 August, 2013 Share Posted 26 August, 2013 Andy Durman watched a lot of the training sessions in Velden and he told me that MP has no problem communicating to the players in English whatsoever. He just doesnt want to talk to the press in an uncontrolled manner. Fair play to him. F**k the press, hes here to manage the team.

Using a translator gives you time to think about your reply and someone else to blame if it comes out wrong. I did the same at my wedding in Budapest when another person translated for me. Its a very good technique. Ow and by the way I have spoken to him in English. All training sessions are predominantly in English although other languages could also be heard.
