cellone Posted 28 August, 2013 Posted 28 August, 2013 What's the matter Alp's, you feeling left out. bless.
Sheaf Saint Posted 28 August, 2013 Posted 28 August, 2013 It's not often you will find me defending Alpine, but he has a valid point. An 'OK' 2nd-half performance against a team bottom of the Championship is the absolute minimum we should be expecting from a £12m Uruguayan international.
influx Posted 28 August, 2013 Posted 28 August, 2013 Wow, Gashton, who cost 12 MILLION, steps up to the plate against ... Barnsley. Mind you, only half the game, lets not get greedy or overdemanding... You really are a piece of work. You really do only come here when you have something negative to say.. What is the point?

An 'OK' 2nd-half performance against a team bottom of the Championship is the absolute minimum we should be expecting from a £12m Uruguayan international. I don't get this obsession with the fee (posters in general maybe first time you mentioned it! ) 1) £12m isn't huge....look at fees quoted for Bale or Suarez. 2) The fee, for a 21 year old player is, in the main, for potential. 3) fee is less relevant than the profit / loss. My opinion is when he leaves the net amount we would have paid (transfer fee paid - received, rather than wages) would, at worst, be small, more likely a profit. 4) it is obvious to anyone who has been to see him that he is very talented but has lacked consistency. Common in young players, particularly skilful playmakers, even if not moving country. 5) his first season wasn't easiest with joining a team in a bad run (strange our first win came in his full debut with him providing the assist for the winner ). He had an injury requiring stay in hospital (not speaking language). Did he also have family bereavement? 6) we maybe paid over the market value as NC wanted good young players here quickly - we would have had more choice and more bargaining if a top 8 side rather than newly promoted. 7) fee seemed high after our previous spending. If we had to buy our squad now - Shaw, Lovren, JWP, Morgan, lallana, VW, Osvaldo, Lambert, JayRod - would you expect them to cost so much less than he did? (Attacking midfielders tend to cost more defenders). Would you judge him so harshly? Having said that his free kicks and corners we f£%&ing crap for player costing that much!
carljack Posted 28 August, 2013 Posted 28 August, 2013 The boys top drawer,a Rolls Royce of a player!
Barry Sanchez Posted 28 August, 2013 Posted 28 August, 2013 The arl Gash scored, thats about it, he did not even celebrate that much, you would have thought he would have steamed into his adoring fans...........................
DT Posted 28 August, 2013 Posted 28 August, 2013 try here http://gastonandco.ch/en/collection Thanks, they look nice, but I bet they go off after about an hour... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
max_saints Posted 31 August, 2013 Posted 31 August, 2013 i dont agree with those who bash him for the sake of it (barry etc.) but really, how much time do we have to give him? he has his occasional touch of class but too inconsistent. today's game was what we brought him in for, to provide that bit of magic to unlock an evenly matched game but yet there he was misplacing passes and looking lost. worse still was the fact that he replaced lallana who looked most likely to get a goal for us. i, like many others, am hoping he will come good soon but how long do we have to wait? such a frustrating player to watch...
adrian lord Posted 31 August, 2013 Posted 31 August, 2013 (edited) If he hasn't come good after a year, he never will. Flogging a dead horse. He's a part timer, to boot! Incredible...nice work if you can get it mind. Edited 31 August, 2013 by adrian lord

I have not bashed him for the sake of it, he has been **** since he arrived, do we wait another 3 years until his contract has expired to see if he will turn good? Any other player would be dropped so it can only be his fee and Cortese keeping him there as he has not deserved it has he?
Barry Sanchez Posted 31 August, 2013 Posted 31 August, 2013 Has Barry been proved right though after all this time? I think people are seeing their senses and through gritted teeth will admit that. Its corrupt he is in the squad alone and he has done nothing to justify it.
Saints foreva Posted 31 August, 2013 Posted 31 August, 2013 Cortese got mugged by the Bologna chairman, he really isn't worth anywhere near £12m.

Its corrupt he is in the squad alone and he has done nothing to justify it. Oh dear referencing yourself in third person is a rather worrying sign ... Nevertheless, no matter how valid your point may or may not be, if you keep harping on about it like a prat people will generally stop listening. We know you think Ramirez always has and always will be a terrible football player and there is a mass conspiracy of people telling you he's good ... maybe stop going on about it? ... Or just copy and paste something generic about him being utter tosh and save yourself some time

Barry Sanchez Posted 31 August, 2013 Posted 31 August, 2013 Barry is a ledge, is correct and is now off for a smugly sherry as he knows a footballer when he sees him and not a lazy spoilt brat who thinks he is better than he actually is. Muchly smugly xxx

SaintBobby Posted 31 August, 2013 Posted 31 August, 2013 He's a great player. Just hasn't adapted at all well yet. That's not unusual, sadly.
Roger Posted 31 August, 2013 Posted 31 August, 2013 He's a great player. Just hasn't adapted at all well yet. That's not unusual, sadly. Define a great player? If say that's someone who has either consistently won things or made a huge positive impact in a club over a number of years?
SaintBobby Posted 31 August, 2013 Posted 31 August, 2013 Define a great player? If say that's someone who has either consistently won things or made a huge positive impact in a club over a number of years? That might be nearer "world class", very few players achieve that. I'd say having a set of skills good enough to get you into one of the top 20 or so international squads in the world on a reasonably consistent basis.
Jack Posted 31 August, 2013 Posted 31 August, 2013 Absolutely f*cking woeful. Weak, no interest, no bottle, lightweight, tries the miracle ball every time. Not good enough.
Ex Lion Tamer Posted 31 August, 2013 Posted 31 August, 2013 Awful today and most of the time for us to be honest. However, when/if he realises that he needs to pass rather than taking on the man every time, he will be a good player. It's decision making rather than talent and he ought to be able to learn
Saints foreva Posted 31 August, 2013 Posted 31 August, 2013 Seems like more and more people are realising he's just not that great. Still a few who will say "give him time" but would probably be laughing if another PL club had overspent to get him in last summer.
The Kraken Posted 31 August, 2013 Posted 31 August, 2013 You wait until next season. He's on a four year contract. why are you judging him on only half of his contract FFS? Everyone knows it often takes players more than two years to settle and be brilliant.
THEVMAN Posted 31 August, 2013 Posted 31 August, 2013 Im pretty sure its in his contract that he has to get a certain amount of game time, but please could he come on for someone who is having an elm street.
The Kraken Posted 31 August, 2013 Posted 31 August, 2013 Im pretty sure its in his contract that he has to get a certain amount of game time, but please could he come on for someone who is having an elm street. So the "Guly contract" does exist after all? #turkishwasright
Roger Posted 31 August, 2013 Posted 31 August, 2013 Im pretty sure its in his contract that he has to get a certain amount of game time, but please could he come on for someone who is having an elm street. Lallana was the best player on the pitch. Lambert should have come off before him. I though Adam was v lucky to be in team ahead of punch last season but second half last week and today was v good. Also think cork is a big voice in dressing room and helps Morgan.
View From The Top Posted 31 August, 2013 Posted 31 August, 2013 No doubting his ability but his application today was woeful, utterly woeful and putting him on for Lallana was a huge mistake as Adam was playing really well.

Turkish Posted 31 August, 2013 Posted 31 August, 2013 So the "Guly contract" does exist after all? #turkishwasright Tis can't be true, this would never happen. Neither would VM Mans other post. Its an outrage that this has even been suggested,

trousers Posted 31 August, 2013 Posted 31 August, 2013 You know we're in trouble when THEVMAN joins in post-match chit chat rather than telling us who is in the starting line up or who we're signing next...
kpturner Posted 31 August, 2013 Posted 31 August, 2013 Also think cork is a big voice in dressing room and helps Morgan.where does this bizarre theory come from.....and does being on the bench suddenly silence this big voice? Are the subs not allowed to speak?
adrian lord Posted 31 August, 2013 Posted 31 August, 2013 Also think cork is a big voice in dressing room and helps Morgan. Crikey, didn't realise Morgan has dyspraxia.
studentsaint Posted 1 September, 2013 Posted 1 September, 2013 Does anyone else think Ramirez is our version of Torres? Comes in at a huge record deal for our club and has lots of pressure which seemingly affacts his game. Constently being told to give him time and that he's classy despite not seeing it since he's been here. The fact that such a large investment was made for him, the chairman, manager and fans can't help but want him playing on the off chance he could start proving himself and don't want to admit that money was wasted.

Whitey Grandad Posted 1 September, 2013 Posted 1 September, 2013 Maybe a record for our club but par for the course in the Premier League.
Cascadia Saint Posted 1 September, 2013 Posted 1 September, 2013 I think he's more like our new anders svensson, although so far he's not even got up to that level yet. Obviously has the skills and that dreaded (and expensive) word POTENTIAL, but it starts to grate when after a year I still don't have a clear picture of what kind of player he is.
jasonb Posted 1 September, 2013 Posted 1 September, 2013 Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger on the difference in Olivier Giroud, who has scored four goals this season: "The difference is he came to a new league that's a level up here and it took him some time to adapt and in the second season he is more comfortable. He's a fantastic guy, he has great charisma and a very positive attitude. On that front, he is fantastic."

Killers Knee Posted 1 September, 2013 Posted 1 September, 2013 Still think he will come good, we need to find the correct balance in Attacking Midfield. Possibly on the right flank with Lallana inside and Rodriguez on the left.
hans gruber Posted 2 September, 2013 Posted 2 September, 2013 hmm could i guess get the ball and pass it sideways 15 metres 30 times a game? at least it would make some posters happy that he has a high conversion rate

Webby Posted 2 September, 2013 Posted 2 September, 2013 Still think he will come good I haven't seen any signs yet that he will. He does not play at the pace required in the PL. He gets the ball in 5 yards of space and just doesn't move quickly enough. Does he think he has a 5 yard exclusion zone around him? He might get time on the ball like that in Italy but not in the PL. He ought to know that by now.
