Batman Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 how bloody good is he can see why morgan was subbed and him moved to the middle to give us an extra attacker up front looked brilliant. hardly ever gives the ball away and pretty bloody good and delivering a cross, set piece such an awesome talent
Ohio Saint Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 how bloody good is he can see why morgan was subbed and him moved to the middle to give us an extra attacker up front looked brilliant. hardly ever gives the ball away and pretty bloody good and delivering a cross, set piece such an awesome talent Absolutely agree 100%. Don't tell anyone though, they are all looking at Luke. Let's keep quiet about JWP eh?
Pastor Patrón Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 I keep saying he's as good as Shaw but nooooo
adrian lord Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 The team will be devastating in a few matches, with JWP, Shaw and the new boys all on song and on the same wavelength.
Ohio Saint Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 I'll tell you guys something funny. Luke and James make Callum look like crap! And Callum ain't no crap!!!
smackalec Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 His 1st touch is awesome. Seems to create lots of space.
Rich102 Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 Looked like a young Beckham on the right, and a young Scholes in the middle. Scary.
sentry Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 JWP this season and last really reminds me of Scholes since his 30's. Scholes early used to be more attacking and with a few long range goals, running into the box etc. But JWP is like Scholes of the last 7 years... controls the play, keeps the ball on the ground, does not force passes but not afraid to thread a ball through when its on. Great little player. If we can hold on to our talent the future is bright, the future is red (and white if NC allows it ).
Webby Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 I said he was scholes like in another thread and he's younger than scholes was when he made Man U debut. He's one of those under the radar type players. Quietly brilliant.
Webby Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 I keep saying he's as good as Shaw but nooooo Yep. They won't listen.
max_saints Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 bloody good delivery of the ball and like shaw looks matured beyond his years. pretty telling that poch subbed Morgan and not him at half time. hope wanyama teaches him a thing or two on beefing up
Kingsland Red Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 JWP was class today, with a phenomenal engine.
niceandfriendly Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 He is class. My mouth fart in the West Brom match thread about his set-peices is well and truly taken back and shamed upon. He is going to be huge for us! Our academy... bloody hell. What the hell are they feeding these kids?
View From The Top Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 Tony Gale, during the AJS commentary, said that it's not the fact that we produce excellent youngsters, but that we aren't scared to play them and never have been and that's what separates us from the rest. Thought it a good point.
DuncanRG Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 Agreed, man of the match. If he toughens up with age then we might have the real deal on our hands.
Saint137 Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 What struck me is he's two-footed, came inside a couple of times first half and made great crosses when he was being forced wide. MOTM by miles today, him and Chambers our best partnership in that slot since Bridge & CMFG
mitch01 Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 He was fantastic today. His set piece delivery could earn us plenty of goals this season.
sidthesquid Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 I thought he totally ran the game in the second half -MoM by a mile.
positivepete Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 Looked like a young Beckham on the right, and a young Scholes in the middle. Scary. Exactly what I said to my mate at the end outstanding today
Deano6 Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 I agree. His crossing today was phenomenal - I wonder if that's something they've been particularly teaching in the academy the last few years, Chambers was good at that too. It's actually shocking how many prem players can't consistently deliver a set piece / cross. As someone said last week, there's something of Johnny Wilkinson when he lines up to deliver a free kick. Excellent ball in for the goal, and an even better delivery for one in the first half that just needed a touch from anyone, ANYONE!!
Webby Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 I'm so glad that we don't need to sell players now, cos players like Shaw and JWP would be off to any of the top 4 clubs, they're that good. JWP the perfect Scholes/Carrick replacement. Anyway, we don't need to sell so....
wild-saint Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 future england international for me. when we moved moved him into the middle he was brilliant.
Stepgar Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 My personal take was the right side didn't work well at all in the first half. BUT......in the second half when JWP moved to the middle i thought he was really really good. I wouldnt have been surprised to him him off at half time. Maybe that was partly due to such a poor performance in the fist half.
Under Weststand Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 So cool calm & assured, from someone so young.
View From The Top Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 Thought the right side week 1st half but when he moved into the middle, my word.
S-Clarke Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 Reminds me of Xavi in the way he plays. Uses and protects the ball incredibly well, his set piece delivery is a joy to behold Technically, one of our best players.
Ed Rooney Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 I must have watched a different game, thought he was very ordinary
Batman Posted 24 August, 2013 Author Posted 24 August, 2013 I must have watched a different game, thought he was very ordinary clearly you must have, as they were talking about him on both talksport and 5live
Ed Rooney Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 clearly you must have, as they were talking about him on both talksport and 5live What did they say ?
Batman Posted 24 August, 2013 Author Posted 24 August, 2013 What did they say ? generally raving about how good he was, he passing, technique etc
eurosaint Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 My personal take was the right side didn't work well at all in the first half. As soon as he he went into the middle he came alive and was absolutely brilliant ! Delighted also that we have found someone you can deliver quality balls from free kicks, corners etc, as this has been a recent weakness !!
Ed Rooney Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 generally raving about how good he was, he passing, technique etc Oh didnt hear that, who was it on talksport and 5 live ?
S-Clarke Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 I must have watched a different game, thought he was very ordinary You clearly watched the Fulham game then. He was the best player on the pitch. He wore the number 16 shirt.
Winchester Red Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 My personal take was the right side didn't work well at all in the first half. BUT......in the second half when JWP moved to the middle i thought he was really really good. I wouldnt have been surprised to him him off at half time. CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 To be honest about it until today this player had struck me as being a decent enough young prospect, but not really doing enough to impressive himself upon the game and certainly not a player in Luke Shaw's class. However I'm happy to say he (very obviously) did bloody well out there today and I was most impressed with his ability, energy level, and his decision making. Well played young man.
ericb Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 Not to get too hyperbolic but I think we might have the best collection of youngsters since THAT united team. Shaw, jwp, clyne and possibly chambers all look something special to me. The trick is can we actually keep hold of them.
Smirking_Saint Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 Said before, he reminds me a lot of Wilshere when he burst on the scene, energy, composure and assurity. If he carries on the way he has he will be a top top player. Im certainly excited about the way we blood our youngsters, Chambers, JWP, Shaw all look very confident and having seen Isgrove on occasion I know he has the quality to step up aswell.
Sour Mash Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 First time he's really stood out for me, thought he was outstanding 2nd half. Don't think he's suited to the wide role though.
corky morris Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 Thought our right side was our weakest point in the first half. JWP delivery was good, but he can't go past a man. Second half he was excellent.
Sour Mash Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 how bloody good is he can see why morgan was subbed and him moved to the middle to give us an extra attacker up front looked brilliant. hardly ever gives the ball away and pretty bloody good and delivering a cross, set piece such an awesome talent Schneiderlin not injured?
musesaint Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 I sat there wondering what the fc!uk ** they've been feeding him over the summer .... It was as if I'd missed three years of his career and woken up ... That's how much he's progressed Immense today No wonder MP rates him
BotleySaint Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 Surely destined for England duty. But let's hope not too soon!
shurlock Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 Thought our right side was our weakest point in the first half. JWP delivery was good, but he can't go past a man. Second half he was excellent. Agree the right hand side was our weak link first half - JWP was helped second half by the fact that Sunderland had dropped deep to the edge of their own area giving him and Wanyama plenty of time and space to carry the ball forward.
ottery st mary Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 At the game today and everyone around me ..saying the same....as me:) JWP WAS AWESOME and so is Chambers.... Well done lads.....the future is bright.
CaneNero Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 His dead ball delivery is ****ing insane. Just needs a bit of muscle on him and he'll have it all.
Monk Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 I must have watched a different game, thought he was very ordinary Yes, you must of.
Turkish Posted 24 August, 2013 Posted 24 August, 2013 Thought the right side week 1st half but when he moved into the middle, my word. I agree, thought we looked a bit light weight down the right, he was excellent in the middle though.
