mcbendy Posted 23 August, 2013 Share Posted 23 August, 2013 I think I might have placed one bet in my life before. On Saints to get relegated. I'm not a bit betting man. I lost the bet, thankfully. The thing is, much as with the bet mentioned above, the motivation for me would be at least as much about numbing the pain of a saddening loss (or relegation) as it would be about the the potential to win some cash. So - over to you, seasoned betters. If I were to place a bet or two on Saints tomorrow, how would I increase my chances of raising my spirits whatever the result? The9 Posted 24 August, 2013 Share Posted 24 August, 2013 If you bet on Saints to lose, you cover yourself with an insurance bet and will get money to cheer you up. If they win, you won't care about the bet. Other than that, I don't really understand the question, as you're requesting bets which will cheer you up win or lose, which isn't really possible. Unless you lay against the draw...
SaintBobby Posted 24 August, 2013 Share Posted 24 August, 2013 At 9/2 Sunderland are a good bet to beat us tbh.
Saint_Tony Posted 24 August, 2013 Share Posted 24 August, 2013 There's no value at all in betting us. Sadly, the way the table pans a out and law of averages suggests it is highly unlikely we will win today Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk

Giordano Posted 24 August, 2013 Share Posted 24 August, 2013 Mcbendy I have the ambivalent approach to Saints you are noting....I usually lay saints in-play when we are winning as a consequence. It's like paying off the fates to let us win. I work out what a victory would be worth to me, ie I might say its worth £20 to me right now for that 1-0 or 2-0 to us scoreline to remain like that and would happily give that to anyone if in return we got the win. If we should then draw or lose I have the minor consolation that the £20 may have grown to £30,£50 or £200. I rarely do it the other way as I would always get happy if we were losing then mounted a fight back to draw or win, though one memorable occasion against mk Dons I think it was ( when Forte saved us...) I laid them when they were 0-2 ( if I recall correct) in second half and collected a few hundred pounds plus ecstatic happiness... In general I'd say don't bet if you are doing it as a career as you will probably ultimately lose, if its small stakes - then wait for Saints to be winning and then "lay" them. I'm sure opening up a bet fair account, doing a few tutorials they have online etc will explain to you how that works, but that's probably the best way to bet on Saints given your predisposition/ feelings on the matter. saints_is_the_south Posted 24 August, 2013 Share Posted 24 August, 2013 Every man and his dog is predicting Saints to win today. Chamberlain, Stelling, Merson, even Lawro is jumping on the bandwagon! This can only mean one thing, an inevitable defeat!

This can only mean one thing, an inevitable defeat! Yeah I have a few quid on us to lose today, just to cover the petrol money. But that being said, i am very confident in our new look side so I am predicting a win.

This can only mean one thing, an inevitable defeat! Spoken like a true Saints supporter! Sadly, I agree. Publicly I expect conclusive victory, - if we can beat Sociedad then we can beat this lot......privately I am considering how I will feel later today if they steal 3 points from us, or 2 even, and trying to come to terms with it.... grezz Posted 24 August, 2013 Share Posted 24 August, 2013 Especially today I think it would take a LOT of money to numb to pain of a Saints defeat. I won't be touching it with a barge pole! I will, however, have a punt on Pompey to win for the reverse reasons of the OP. I will a fraction of the pleasure but it will cost 1/20th the outlay and be well worth it. speed demon Posted 24 August, 2013 Share Posted 24 August, 2013 I know loads and loads of mates that do football bets every week but I don't know 1 person that can actually say hand on heart, "I make money on a regular basis from gambling on football". I have heard a million stories about having 5 out of 6 or 7 out of 8 on the coupons, just let down by one result in the same way I always hear from mates who win a few quid like on Manure the other day. Ladbrokes went 3/1 RVP score first, United win. Obviously when they come in people shout from the rooftops about it but IMO only a tiny handful of real pros make money from this LONGTERM. Anyone can have a punt and win but doing it over a duration of time is almost impossible. I'd keep your money - the bookies will only be to pleased to keep taking it. They may pay out sometimes but generally theres only one winner and it aint you.
saint_jas Posted 24 August, 2013 Share Posted 24 August, 2013 £1 bet every week on an accumulator, hardly ever win. But keeps me interested in the scores when I can't get to a saints match.

sentry Posted 24 August, 2013 Share Posted 24 August, 2013 I put a fiver against Saints every game (draw no bet I do). Insurance. We win Im happy, dont care about the fiver, we loose Im covered. I usally put a quid on a win and scorer too. This week I went with 3-0 Jay Rob to score first. 45s. Also do two lots of 3 x draws. Usually get 35s. Surprising how often I win at this one.
