Anelka given compassionate leave

Loved the fact at the WBA game some proper 'ard nuts (not hard, just thick as sh!t) were giving it the biggun in a beer garden saying how good WBA are, and Anelka would score more than SRL this season, and that because anelka had won the CL(13 years ago) he was definately a better player right now! Might jus go to that pub later to royally lord it over some midlanders.

Pretty sad for him, just retiring is a pretty extreme action.

Does this leave Long as WBA's only established forward then seeing as Odemwengie is still on the naughty step and the other two are still on the step up programme.

They've got Markus Rosenberg as well but he's gash.

His brother was also his agent so no wonder he feels lost. Very sad for him.

It`s always tragic to lose a close relative and I know this forum will respect that.

doesn't say anything about that in L'Equipe, just says he's jacked it in for the time being. Mind you WBA are dire so you could understand that. Anelka certainly doesn't need the money just now. He'll be back at some obscure French club soon, just like Steed Malbranque last season. signed for St Etienne but really didn't fancy them and jacked it all in, turned out for Lyon a few months later.

And Vydra that so many on here wanted.....(not me included)

Championship hotshot ? well we'll see if he can make the step up, may have to now though. WBA are my surprise for a relegation spot this season. Sh*t manager, sh*t team no Lukaku yep they could well go down. Think their late season form was pretty abysmal last year and if they hadn't had that flying start they could have been in serious trouble.

I went to Watford quite a few times last season (I live pretty close) and have to say he was pretty impressive.

Was definitely a level above the Championship.

Wouldn't have minded seeing him come to Saints, but wasn't gutted he went elsewhere either.

Think he would have been a better fit here, than WBA. He can play on the ball, and make things happen - WBA seem more counter-attack minded than us (or Watford last season) so not sure how well he will fit in to their system.

That shows in what he had done to his Rolls Royce, Blacked out windows, that Stealth Matt Black paintwork, matching black rims and to top it off 1980s'esk Bright red rim protectors. Regardless of the obscene cost there must have been grown men crying their eyes out in Goodwood as that meandered past them.

Stick a car like that in everyone's faces, then put in a very lukewarm performance like he did on Saturday, you have to wonder where's his motivation.

That said no ill will wished on him.

The guy who died is called Eric Manasse, surely his brother would also have the surname Anelka ?

I suppose maybe it was a stepbrother but otherwise it makes no sense !

Nicolas Anelka's brother Claude used to be his agent, years ago - certainly in 1999 :

May 19: Anelka's brother and agent, Claude, guarantees that Nicolas will stay at Highbury next season..

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sport/football/fa_carling_premiership/405221.stm

Manasse was NOT his brother, but is one of his current agents, who worked for the company that represented him. Sounds a little too convenient and a little too much of a personal response to a business relationship to me, with my cynical head on, seeing as the original rumour was that he stormed out of training and announced he was retiring...
