mcbendy Posted 21 August, 2013 Share Posted 21 August, 2013 I really can't bear waiting a whole week between games. Plus the season started weeks later and there are stupid international breaks. And we're not winning the league.

And we're not winning the league. Thats the problem with winning the league; the bastards promote you. Then there's nothing to play for, because there isn't another league to be promoted to except the Champions League, and they're foreigners. There really ought to be an option on promotion from the Championship. If you get a promotion spot, why not be allowed to auction it? Maybe Huddersfield or Brighton would bid enough to make it worth our while, then with the money we could buy some better players....errr....with which to push for promotion......errrrm....so that next season.....ummm.... SNSUN Posted 22 August, 2013 Share Posted 22 August, 2013 Reading this thread, I actually hope we get relegated just so we can play in the Championship again. I'm going to poison the Saints players' food just before kick-off each game so that the players get the sh!ts on the pitch and play badly. Shove Osvaldo up your arse Cortese, I miss the days of signing Danny Fox and Jos Hooiveld.
Viking Warrior Posted 22 August, 2013 Share Posted 22 August, 2013 I can't bear the thought that we no longer have the. Albion band playing at half time a far worse situation than what the op alludes to
John Boy Saint Posted 22 August, 2013 Share Posted 22 August, 2013 Shove Osvaldo up your arse Cortese, I miss the days of signing Danny Fox and Jos Hooiveld. ............................ Or Jonno Quick!!! (or have I missed the point and gone back to League 1?). I like it up here, playing now and again. Having weekends to do other stuff, not having to rush home midweek for a game. Getting that less frequent fix of Football makes matchdays even more exciting.
Fan The Flames Posted 22 August, 2013 Share Posted 22 August, 2013 It is obviously better in the prem, but the constant Saturday Tuesday schedule of matches in the lower league is better.
dubai_phil Posted 22 August, 2013 Share Posted 22 August, 2013 Actually no. 1) I had to listen to DM every week 2) Once your clocks go back mid - week matches kicked off here at midnight so didn't get to listen to many of them. Now every game is on TV so last season I probably missed watching 4 games in total. Yes it was more real and spending the cost of the club to Markus on one player seems bonkers, but after 7 years I no longer have to shrug my shoulders and apologise when people ask me who I support (actually after about 10 years). The only downside I can see is that the forum is filled with more threads about nothing very much. Back in the lower leagues we never had so many posters and never had so much time to discuss our Asian Betting Partners
West End Saint Posted 22 August, 2013 Share Posted 22 August, 2013 I did really enjoy the Championship and think it is the most open and competative league in the world more games and a genuine chance of winning every game home or away I do miss it and remember it fondly. The club need to be where we are the standard of football is better and it is good to see the Saints back in the top flight but the prem is going stale despite higher attendances the atmospher is not as good.I went to 15 away last season and other maybe Swansea the home fans were silent & sterile. The prem and the clubs should be looking to Germany how they price there games so the more passionate working class younger fan that are more vocal can afford to go and get behind there team and get the stadium rocking, football on a blank canvas is nothing the fans play an essential part. The Kraken Posted 22 August, 2013 Share Posted 22 August, 2013 It is obviously better in the prem, but the constant Saturday Tuesday schedule of matches in the lower league is better. The Premier League is naturally the place that all English sides will aspire to play in; but the Championship has many things that make it a more enjoyable league to be in for a number of fans, Sat-Tues-Sat games being just one of them. saints_is_the_south Posted 22 August, 2013 Share Posted 22 August, 2013 Did enjoy the Sat-Tues games in the lower leagues. Tuesday night games meant steak night in the spoons for one! In terms of the football, the Championship was only "fun" in the promotion season. The others whilst we were there were all pretty abject, play off season aside maybe. The 07/08 & 08/09 seasons were most definitely not "fun".
DanW Posted 22 August, 2013 Share Posted 22 August, 2013 The Championship is not well televised overseas. The Premier League is VERY well televised overseas. Premier League for the win.

Maggie May Posted 22 August, 2013 Share Posted 22 August, 2013 Saints have been in the top flight for more of my life than they were in the lower leagues, and that applies to many, many others, so why the bloody moaning about gaps between games. I'd much rather wait to play a team like Sunderland in the Prem than witness a drab match against Walsall on a Tuesday.
melmacian_saint Posted 23 August, 2013 Share Posted 23 August, 2013 It's one thing to walk down on an evening with -3ºC after the snowiest day of the year down in the city through slippery paths full of ice which the dark can't reveal to watch Everton. Do the same to watch Bristol City, or Huddersfield? Not so much.
M271 Posted 23 August, 2013 Share Posted 23 August, 2013 IMO Saints being back in the top English League is where they need to be financially and for the quality of football, it gives the Club, fans and city the status and world exposure of which we can be proud. However I am not as fixated by this as some who get season or match tickets depending upon which league we are in rather than supporting the Saints whatever (difference between League 1 and EPL attendances). I love the excitment and specticle of playing the big clubs but going to Championship/Div 1 sides at places like Barnsley, Oldham, Tranmere etc does have a back to football roots and true England in the raw feel about it. The games weren't any less exciting just a different level of football, so I wouldn't say that it was better in the Championship just different. Off Topic: I do think that free to air TV Channels such as ITV and the Football League are 'missing a trick' by letting Sky the televise Football League matches with a 3 year contract of £195m (£65m a season), there is a big potential audience without subscription TV access who would readily tune in to watch regular live football and this would promote the standing of the Football League and ITV audience numbers. But I guess people more knowledgeable than I have done the analysis of this and not seen it as financially worthwhile.
angelman Posted 23 August, 2013 Share Posted 23 August, 2013 I will agree with others, that the KO times were better in the Champ and those for PL matches is just a **** take. I like Sat 3pm and Wed 7.45/8 pm. I love mid-week evening games. I guess if we were ever to be televised, then the Monday night one might just be OK although it means that 3pm Sat has been binned. Now you sometimes get as few as 4 games on the Sat. Look at the opening day - what was it, six 3pm KOs?
Give it to Ron Posted 23 August, 2013 Share Posted 23 August, 2013 I used to agree...then I watched Derby v Blackburn...my god was that bloody absymal football or what! Signing the likes of Osvaldo, Wanyama and Lovren as opposed to Trotman, Euell, Mellis....think I have changed my mind.
