Luke Shaw - best of the bunch

BBC Sport has printed an article naming the best 20 young prospects from Premier League sides (20 teams)

Luke made 26 apps. for Saints last season - when he was still 17.

next came Everton's 19.y.o Ross Barkley who played in 19 games, and 21 y.o Villa prospect Gary Gardner featured in 16 games.

The other 17 lads had accrued only 15 games BETWEEN THEM, and half of them havn't yet played a single game in the Prem.

Talk about quality. If Luke Shaw can become a first team regular when other clubs brag about having a teenager on their bench, but hardly play him...it says even more for the success of our

Academy.

...and of course they didn't mention that James Ward-Prowse played in the first 4 games last seasson and added 9 sub.apps and a handful of Cup matches, too.

Now that Calum Chambers has made his Premiership debut, maybe next season the Beeb will have to print a list of the best 20 players who have come through the Saints Academy.....

I think JWP is pretty much the same standard, massively underrated player.

I agree. Unfortunately for him, the midfield has much more competition for places. I rate him very highly. He does the simple things very well, in other words winning the ball, keeping the ball and passing it to a team mate. Scholes-esque you might say.

The same standard as Shaw? I disagree, Shaw is probably the best player for his age certainly in England and probably most of the rest of the world. Same cannot be said for JWP although he is talented and has undoubted potential.

I don't think so. It requires much more for someone to break into the team at that age incentral midfield then it does at left back. Shaw was far from exceptional last season, he was just exceptional for his age.

I understand what you're saying but he is a left back remember. If he was a cm, am, or cb would he have played as many games as he has?
