Nigel Adkins..how easily forgotten..

well, we will see how good he is.

he is at the team that beat us in the NPC with largly a better squad than a so called inferior manager had.

throw in the parachute payments, top 2 is a minimum really for them

I shall leave you uber "fans" to squabble amongst yourselves about Adkins.

As for you saying that we will see how good he is ....the guy got us Saints, back to back promotions, having built on the foundations that Alan Pardew laid down. He gave me and my son (who had previously gone a whole season without seeing Saints win - he wan't allowed to watch midweek games) some fantastic footballing memories and I thanked him personally for that.

I have a job to do...

The manner of his sacking was one of the most disgraceful things I've known as a fan.

Thankfully it seems to have been a beneficial decision. I hope Nigel Adkins thrives in the future though, he deserves to.

Yes I fully agree - and most fans I know certainly haven't forgotten him - they remain very grateful to him for his extraordinary success with Saints.

Beneficial decision? He left us in 15th and we finished in 14th...... Ridiculous comparison to make until this season has finished.

Although I will admit, would Nige have been able to bring Lovren/Wanyama/Osvaldo to the club? Definitely wouldn't have been able to sign all 3. I love the bloke to bits and he's brought us and me some of the best times we've ever experienced at Saints, and how Cortese treated him was absolutely disgraceful. Especially after one of our best results of last season away at Chelsea.

In still not sure when Adkins went from being the next great English manager and the new Alex Ferguson to being the bungling, cliche ridden, clueless bumpkin who was our of his depth. Still Pochetino has proven he is the man to take us to the next level, by matching Adkins points per game record since he's been here.

life is tough at the top Colin - isn't it ? Nice guy and all that, and sad he went in the way he did .....

.....but then again NA did have the £ million pay-off on his contract to comfort him in his hour of dis-appointment......

Until he fails or is sacked at which point he becomes a bungling, non english speaking, clueless bumpkin

Played golf today with a long time Reading fan and he is more than happy with Nigel, reckons he is light years ahead of McDermott in terms of tactics and motivation ! Said that he was very popular with supporters in general !

Is he telling reading fans on their mongboard he played golf with a long term saints fan who said Pochetino is light years ahead of Adkins in terms of tactics and motivation, very popular with the supporters in general!

I guess that he might be saying that the long time Saints fan was sad to see Nigel go but quietly confident that his replacement will do well !

He also said that their 'mongboard' had many WUM's who were unable to resist having a pop at perfectly innocent comments stated within the context of threads !!

A good motivator and a decent bloke, plays some good football but also makes some strange decisions. I think he is a great manager in the lower leagues and NPC but the prem came too quick for him. He also needs to get his head around the top level player market as his targets and aquisitions were just not good enough.

All in all he will be a consistant prem manager within 5 years I reckon.

they are not doing too well.

be interesting to see how he and McDermott fair this season

adkins has the squad (largly) that finished above us with an apparent inferior manager.

Leeds do not have as good a squad and always fighting to sell their players

for the time being advantage McDermott..still Reading have Yeovil next before the 2 matches that will decide Adkins immediate future. Both home, Leeds and Brighton. A home defeat against the side managed by the man he replaced would about topple the pile i think.

Unless Adkins signs some decent players over the next week, can't see him being a big success at Reading. Can see them knocking on our door for one or two squad outsiders who could still do well for Reading. They should be doing well but he's not been able to get together the squad to regain promotion. A real shame ass he deserves better.

well I don't know some of Reading's fans, ok 1 then, bloke I was at Uni with, says he left their best striker on the bench and that his tactics aren't all that good.

NB any bars down your way ever show saints, might be down that way next Saturday. Still Norwich-Saints can't see that being a big draw for your average Heraultais. Stream it will be then at least there's decent broadband at UM2

From what your mate says it appears he's still struggling with his team selections and substitutions.

There are a number of Irish Taverns in Montpellier that show Premier League games but doubt they'll be showing Saints unless there's a decent contingent of students arriving who support Saints. I relie on the internet where you can always find a link and often the replay of the game.

If NA does go for Billy Sharp, I think he'd make a formidable strike force.... together with Le Fondre.

what rejoin the man responsable for promising him Premier League football and then ditching him when we got there ? Yeah right. Aren't Celtic supposed to be signing him any day now ?

Well class me as a troll if you like....but I have been steadfast in my belief since the day he was installed.....he was not the man to take us forward.

he was fortunate to have the squad he did at his disposal.

we came second in championship races twice....which showed he was not up to it.

his transfers,in the main,and that's being generous....we're crap.

hes found his level oncemore....but this time he will have to work with a mediocre squad......mind you! reading aren't that bad are they compared to some.?

he isn't liked by quite a few in the game....wonder why.

He took us up two divisions in two years. If that's not taking us forward then I don't know what is. You can try to re-write history all you like, but he proved you consistently wrong by gaining promotion when you were steadfast that he'd fail even at our lower levels.

He's not cut-out for a top ten aspiring PL side but he proved to be exactly what we needed at the time.

Oh to stray onto these nasty little threads where the spiteful little trolls with their comic book avatars put the boot into the guy who got us back to back promotions and turned our fortunes around.

Pr1cks.

PS NA played a shadow team, got stuffed and will likely be relieved to be out of a competition they won't win.

Just saying it. Had di canio lost 6-0 tonight we would all be assuming he was on his last legs and he was crap etc

I doubt reading fans are too chipper tonight

Seems pretty dishonourable to slag Adkins off after he took us up two divisions in two seasons. Everyone has a bad result here and there, doesn't make him a bad manager. Plenty of managers have failed to acheive half what he did with more expensive squads than ours.
