Toon Saint Posted 20 August, 2013 Share Posted 20 August, 2013 (edited) Refreshing to read that Osvaldo appears to have some discerning tastes in music: The Stones, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, etc. Not the most obscure, granted, and I'm more of the belief that the best British music was made between the years 1978 and 1986, but...point is that it actually gives us a bit of insight into his personality and tastes, where as most modern EPL footballers seem to belong to the same pool of insipid blandness, with very little interest in anything other than football. I'm sure there are quite a few notable exceptions, but by in large they are pretty predictable in their love for the latest r'n'b-meets-cod-dub-step fare on Radio 1, ridiculously expensive designer print t-shirts, and shocking over-sized trainers. That old adage that money can't buy taste applies to roughly 97.26% of them. I love Pat Nevin as a pundit, partly because he sounds like Wordsworth when sat on the MOTD2 sofa next to Dion Dublin, but also cos he loves Joy Division and the Fall - as a side note, I've seen him DJ a couple of times out in Newcastle. Also found out recently, via twitter, that Egil Ostenstad is a massive Smiths fan, which makes my love for him all the more strong. I love Ozzie already, not just because of his rugged handsomeness, but cos he actually has a passion for something other than his profession that isn't rearing horses or golf. Anybody else have any connections to particular footballers (ex or current) based on their tastes/hobbies outside of football? (Stan Collymore and dogging don't count ) Just interested, like. syd_barrett_saint Posted 20 August, 2013 Share Posted 20 August, 2013 I don't know if it says all that much about Osvaldo, more about where he is from - a very large proportion of men from Buenos Aires in their 20s and 30s listen to exactly the same bands. It's pretty much normal.
Grey Crab Posted 20 August, 2013 Share Posted 20 August, 2013 Joey Barton loves The Smiths. Leighton Baines writes a blog for the Everton OS, in which he often talks about music. He's recommended the likes of Mercury Rev and Tame Impala on it, as well as the Floyd, Talking Heads and Weller.
DuncanRG Posted 20 August, 2013 Share Posted 20 August, 2013 Music is my biggest passion in life, but I can't say it's ever bothered me what footballers listen to. The only thing that does annoy me is the likes of Barton and Baines being hailed as trend buckers and sometime-rockstars because they like a bit of Oasis or whatever. Saint_clark Posted 21 August, 2013 Share Posted 21 August, 2013 I'm sure a lot of footballers are passionate about something, Osvaldo just makes it a bit more obvious.
Ohio Saint Posted 21 August, 2013 Share Posted 21 August, 2013 Osvaldo is Cantona. I just hope we are not Leeds.
ulstersaint1980 Posted 21 August, 2013 Share Posted 21 August, 2013 David Prutton is a big AC/DC fan. David Bentley, too (I think). Doesn't get any better than that...

MINIBARCELONASAINT Posted 21 August, 2013 Share Posted 21 August, 2013 When we were back under Pardew, the players took it in turns to choose the music they listened to in the changing rooms pregame. Puncheon and Jaidi listened to some awful tinpot grime music. Back then, at least, we were largely an indie music side, them apart.
sentry Posted 21 August, 2013 Share Posted 21 August, 2013 From what I read about him, he needs to be loved to play his best which is exactly what I recon the saints will give him. i hear Pink Floyd are his fav so maybe an Osvaldo song to a Pink Floyd tune would be good, dont know any myself though gotta say (Im a country boy).
