That line-up is so poor. Lower championship at best. Damn lucky they didn't draw Arsenal, Milan, Lyon or PSV.

Not especially lucky considering they're in a completely different section of the competition and couldn't draw them at this stage.

Scottish football is rubbish, Celtic are the alpha dog and don't have to make much effort to win nearly every week. I will be closely watching Wanyama's consistency when the tough matches start rolling in week in week out. Still we have the coaching team to correct any slacking off in his performances and as he's a young player there shouldn't be too much problem. Hooper on the other hand...if he scores 5 against good defences he'll do well..

Well that's that then ! Scottish football operates differently to English. It's to do with population size and the amount of clubs in a small area v smaller crowds and less tv dosh . Hence the quality of player being somewhat lower. But it can still be entertaining on any given day and is enjoyed by those loyal to their clubs week in week out. There are a good few prem games over a season that are as dull as dishwater but that's the nature of the game I guess. As for Celtic today. I suspect Boruc and Wanyama and Hooper would have made a difference to their former club.. Three top scots :-)

Interesting to note that though "Scottish Football Is Rubbish" (FACT, FFS etc), we have three recent former Celtic players and an ex-Rangers player in and around our first team squad. So either they got really good on leaving, or maybe there are actually some potentially pretty decent players up there waiting to get picked off.

A good point well made. Football fans in Scotland don't think about the English prem all the time. They support their clubs and get on with it.

With Clubs like Rangers and Hearts in financial crap there is now more young scottish talent getting a chance to play first team football and gain experience. It's a big turning point for the Scottish game which was ruined when Celtic And Rangers(the original) tried to copy England and brought in lots of foreign imports. In a lot of cases they picked up cheaper 2nd division Europeans and strangled the routes for home grown youth.

Celtic apart, its possible there may be a return to days when the Strachans Dalglishs' Jordan's came south on a regular basis.

If anyone still think the SPL is decent....probably not that many on this forum though.....unless we have some Celtic guests ;)

Depends what you compare the SPFL to ? There is a lot of life outside that division too. just as we found when we toured the provinces of the English lower leagues.

Your example- Hibernian- are currently a poor set up with a manager hanging on by his fingertips. In better times could they have beaten Malmo- Possibly. Could they have beaten Swansea- definitely not, but that says more about Swansea than Hibernian or the SPFL

Perhaps we could prise Forster away from Celtic.

 

If he wants to be even considered for England, he will need to command his area a hell of a lot better than he did tonight.

Since I live in Sweden and know just how sh**e the swedish league is those results say more than just the odd game. Malmo has not beaten any team in Sweden with those figures for years and years.....

I honestly think it has seriously suffered without the old firm derby and is in serious decline. Its almost as though Celtic have taken their foot off thr pedal.

Wanyama, Boruc and Hooiveld are all decent Prem players of varying degrees, but two of them are starters in a side supposed to be challenging for Europe... Steven Davis has also outshone our £12m Uruguayan so far.

Truth is, the league has been on the decline for a while now. Players nowadays will probably prefer a move to a club where they're offered a good wage, which is something that most Scottish clubs (Celtic and, in a few years, Rangers excluded) can't afford. Gone are the days of players like Henrik Larsson playing in the SPL, why play for a club the size of Celtic when they can get a bigger paycheque somewhere else at a similar sized club?
