Saint-Armstrong Posted 20 August, 2013 Share Posted 20 August, 2013 Any chance of this one getting going you reckon? "Osssssss-valdo! He's gonna score today! It's just a shot away!" It seems we may end up with a "he scores when he wants", but it'd be nice to have something unique, original and appealing to the player. It just works. The tune, the meaning, the words. It fits and it's catchy. [/simoncowell] We've already read and seen how Osvaldo needs to feel appreciated and loved, and as well as being a pretty good chant for the reasons listed above, it certainly serves a purpose in playing up to him and his biggest love, The Rolling Stones. Anyone? Please not another terrible and generic chant...

niceandfriendly Posted 20 August, 2013 Share Posted 20 August, 2013 It's original so it would certainly be better than "clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap OSVALDO" or "doo doo doo" etc but what about if he has just scored? Don't think this one will catch on to be honest. Think the Viva Ronaldo/Dani Osvaldo and Satisfaction suggestions are better, personally.
Golden Balls Posted 20 August, 2013 Share Posted 20 August, 2013 When have chants/songs suggested on this forum been taken up and used? Ever? Rickie Lambert one is the best I can think of. As well as Jose Fonte baby and WTFILN. I'm sure if you go back further there has been more. This one and the new Wanyama one stolen from Celtic are two great chants so would be good to hear on Saturday.

How about: Playing on the pitch at Southampton, Not in Italy, Holland or France. Hamilton Saint Posted 20 August, 2013 Share Posted 20 August, 2013 Well, maybe some of you are familiar with Jonathan Richman's song "Pablo Picasso" - covered in the mid-70s by John Cale. A lovely little ditty that went like this: "Well some people try to pick up girls And get called a**holes; This never happened to Pablo Picasso; He could walk down your street And girls could not resist his stare and So Pablo Picasso was never called an a**hole." Just change Pablo Picasso to Pablo Osvaldo. Brilliant. Of course, you'd have to be familiar with the original to get the tune. Worth checking out, eh? So, what do you think? It has that certain je ne sais quois.

Wes Tender Posted 20 August, 2013 Share Posted 20 August, 2013 The Ballad of John and Yoko is perfect for many reasons. Apart from the actual mention of Southampton in the opening line, Osvaldo must have some affinity with the song too. As far as I know, nobody else in British football uses the song and it's a well enough known tune and about the right length and not too many words have to be changed from the original, so it's instantly recognisable. It's pretty well there in the past two or three efforts. This is my version:- Playing up front for Southampton Scoring for fun for the Saints The man in the goal said I didn't see that You know he didn't give me a chance Christ he makes it look easy You know how good he can be The way things are going Osvaldo's gonna score three. "The Ballad of John & Yoko" is a far better tune for a song for Osvaldo. To you the plaudits for the original idea. But unfortunately I have my doubts as to whether the Northam will cotton on to it, as their preference is for one liners that can be repeated until everybody has learned the 6/7 words. Wes Tender Posted 21 August, 2013 Share Posted 21 August, 2013 Yep. Not sure why people are still bothering. It's by far the best suggestion, simple, short and completely original. Precisely. Completely appropriate for those with the attention span of a gnat. It might be the best suggestion based on that criteria, but the other one is vastly superior, cleverer, more imaginative, also completely original, more recognisable, connected to the City, would be appreciated by the player, but just not simple enough for the simpler fans. Wes Tender Posted 21 August, 2013 Share Posted 21 August, 2013 Spot on Wes. Which is why the gimme shelter one is the best horse to back. Will work. I suppose on the plus side, it doesn't make reference to where he comes from, what his dietary habits are, it's ambivalent on his position regarding the Skates and it's short enough that those who attempt to beat out a rhythm on the backboards can't mess it up too much. On the minus side, it contains no profanities, which I thought was de rigeur for the Northam. So bearing that in mind, somebody ought to be thinking along the lines of adapting the Cortese song. Osvaldo, whoa, whoa, Osvaldo whoa, whoa, He plays for Italy He f*cking hates Pompey Eats corned beef with his spaghetti, etc.
