Was wondering about the team for Barnsley.

Think it might be :

KD

Clyne Jos, Maya, Fox

Cork, SD,

JP GR Ads (capt)

Osvaldo,

Subs (7 allowed) : Gazza, Lovren, Jrod, Guly, CC, JWP, Mayuka.

Schneiderlin, SRL, Fonte, VW, Boruc + Shaw rested. Clyne to get a run out to see if hes right ditto the rest of the back four though he is the most likely starter in the next EPL game of them four. Cork and SD to be the defensive midfielders - both experienced and know what to do.

Jason to just go and attack and then cross it to Osvaldo to score ( or score himself - id say if JP starts he will score in this game) ditto GR and Ads to support Osvaldo as much as poss. Id back Osvaldo to notch one if he gets at least three chances and probably more...GR on offensive free kicks, Osvaldo on penalties, corners ?

I think a bench Saturday more likely myself maybe coming on later on in match and full debut in the Carling Cup.

At SMS he will be presented to the crowd, but he has only been here 5/6 days, does not know how we play fully yet, full pressure and all eyes on him etc etc and he does'nt score with first touch there's a risk of a let down reaction from crowd. Plus the extra pressure on SRL and Jrod, and the AM's to deliver will be heightened as they know we got a £15m substitute super-striker on the bench....Osvaldo on the bench might be worth a goal headstart for us already v sunderland because of his impact on those other players to up game even more to higher level..

I doubt he will have his full debut against Barnsley. Maybe he will start on Saturday, maybe not - but I really don't think he will start, or even be on the bench, for that one.

The line-up for the Barnsley will be much dependant on who starts Saturday: Clyne/Chambers - Maya/Fonte - JWP/Gaston/Puncheon - etc.

However, I honestly the starting 11 for Barnsley will be those most least likely to start with a fully fit squad: i.e. Kelvin/Gazza, Jos, Fox, (prob) Chambers, Cork, Steve Davis, Punch, Guly, Mayuka; with a few of the youngsters thrown in: Isgrove, Turnbull, Rowe, etc.

He spent 1 1/2 seasons with Pochettino, i'm confident he knows how a MP side plays so should adapt pretty quickly.

Will be a massive disappointment if he does not score with his first touch. He surely must follow the example of SRL England Goal Machine.

The best bit about being a striker is that you can just plant yourself in any team and you already know 75% of your job. If we just want to play him up front in the middle he'll already know 90% of what's expected.

The nuances about rotating the front three, the specific runs to make in various set situations, who he should pick up at corners or defending throw ins and stuff like that can all come with a few more training sessions.

does not know how we play fully yet,

Don't forget that he's already played for Poch, so he does know how we play. Maybe there's a nuance or two that's new for him, but I think he's probably got it down.

I'd really consider starting Osvaldo against Barnsley. Get him off to a flyer with a goal or 2 under his belt, and take him off after about an hour. Hope we put out a strongish team in general too, really want to see us take one of the cup competitions seriously this season, after what Wigan & Swansea did last season there is no reason why we could not make a final. Doesn't bother me which competition it is, League or FA Cup. We have a couple of senior players who could do with the match fitness too, like Clyne who has been injured & Yoshida & Gaston who came back late for pre season. My team would be:

Davis

Clyne - Stephens - Yoshida - Fox

Cork - JWP

Isgrove - Guly - Puncheon (if he's still here)

Osvaldo

Then fill the bench with a mixture of fringe players & some of the u21s.

Really hope Lambert gets the nod ahead of him Sat, i would dislike MoPo if he does drop him for Osvaldo, for me he should come off the bench and then as this thready says he starts at Barnsley.

I think they can both play. Lambo and Jay Rod have played together in the past, so why not Lambert and Osvaldo?

Osvaldo got a lot of service from Totti at Roma. Not suggesting Rickie = Totti, but a hell of a lot of our forward play goes through Rickie. Osvaldo looks the sort of player to capitalise on what SRL creates.
