Omar Rowe - number 11?

Or maybe this should be the "who is the next to step up from the U21's" thread...

Having watched a few of the U21's/dev squad games for me the stand-out player is Rowe. He seems to have pace, touch and a clinical finish. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get some 1st team minutes this season, perhaps in the Capital 1 Cup v Barnsley?

If not him as 'the next Chambo' then who?

Watching the U21's the other day against Liverpool they said he was at West Ham before us. Any idea why they let him go because he looks a talent to me.

If he's a talent with pace, touch and techique he wouldn't have fitted in at whu!

Rowe looked very good indeed against Liverpool last week on LFCTV, and still had a pretty decent game in the tonking they got on Friday, too - he's certainly worth a run at Barnsley if we plan on giving a few kids a look rather than putting out the first team to try and win the tournament...

He won't get number 11 though... probably won't get 15 or 19 either, but there are a pile of numbers from 27 upwards free which academy players usually get.

I'm 99% sure I've seen footage from the Saints youth teams (maybe a couple of years ago) where they explained that we were close to letting Rowe go. If I remember correctly, he was given a last chance to prove that he was mentally up for the task of being a pro footballer, but it's quite hazy for me.

Can anyone confirm that this is not just a product of my imagination?

It's certainly a story about Gareth Bale, not sure that's the sort of thing the club would put in the public domain about an existing player though, is it ?

As far as I remember, it was pushed as a positive story: we almost gave up on him, but now he's coming good. The only reason I remember (or imagine ;)) this is because every time I've seen his name mentioned since, I always think that he's supposed to be on the fringes of the team as we almost threw him out... I really wish someone could support this story ;)

It was said we were going to give up on Chamberlain, I think that is who you are getting confused with. Rowe has not been talked about much publicly by the club.

This is the same commentator who said RL was product of our Academy..!!

But Rowe looks very good. Confident and assured on the ball. I watched him having a kick around, back in the summer with some of his mates.

They couldn't get near him!
