Arsenal must pay Saints £10k every time AOC plays 20 minutes

The article implies that Wenger was trying to play him for

"Incredibly a trend emerged, with Wenger bringing him off the bench after 72 minutes (v Stoke), 73 minutes (Liverpool), 72 minutes (Coventry), 65 minutes (Norwich), 76 minutes (Fulham), 86 minutes (Tottenham), 67 minutes (Swansea), 73 minutes (West Ham), 71 minutes (Swansea), and 75 minutes (Reading)."

I agree that the sums don't seem that high compared to other transfer-related monies. It just seems that on this evidence the deal has reduced Ox's playing time.

Crazy thought but maybe he's too sh#t to start and substitutions don't tend to get made in the first half hour.

So we obviously got a bucket of money when he signed for them, which if reports are true we demanded in full "in cash", then we stick this little gem into the mix.

The cover photo on the Leeds programme, the Saturday before the deal was done on the Thursday, of Cortese standing in a purposeful slightly menacing manner takes on even more significance.

Surely it screws the maximum earning potential of Oxo which in turn will impact on his Mum & Dad as their greed in cashing in on their son led to the move in the first place. It also sends out a message to any other parents thinking along the same lines as the Chamberlains, who took Alex for a medical at Arsenal during the season he exploded onto the scene with us. They thought they being clever by sneaking him up there, but Saints knew it had happened but obviously kept their powder dry. It certainly is a sting in the tale. It will probably make sure that the player will open his mouth if any other parent or agent comes up with the same bright idea as the Chamberlains: as it must do Alex's head in not to able to play full games.

Apparently Man Utd are playing games with the Lad Jones (sure its him) Who they got from Millwall he has an appearance payment trigger condition as part of the deal when he was sold, which Man U were Weaseling about with last season............... This also makes a mockery of the England selection process as both these lads are in and around the first squad choice yet they are very unlikely to get 20 minutes for their team!!!!

Whilst it is bittersweet for us Saints fans, AOC is getting good money and I doubt he will be too worried. Mind you, if this continues for the remainder of his Arsenal contract, he may end up on the Wenger yoof scrap heap and he would of been financially better off with a professional career at Saints.

That said, I hope his greedy old man reads this article, he has whored off his son under Corteses Eterna watch, and now everyone knows the consequences his underhand manoeuvres.

Well done to the Don and LOL at Arsenal.

I'm finding it hard to believe that this clause really exists. It's a bit too good to be true - for the Saints anyway... Do we have any other sources to back it up?

Its irrelevant without knowing the other terms of the deal. The press bandied around anywhere between 10 and 15 million, but no figures to my knowledge came out of either club.

Without knowing those, we don't know if it was a **** deal for us or a great deal. What if sold for 5 million + 10k for every game of 20 mins played? - Not for one minute suggesting we did, but without all the facts, it could be that Arsenal are the ones laughing.

If a parent's concern over sending his son to Saints' Academy is that if when the boy turns 17/18 and wants to sign for 'one of the big clubs' (thereby, not staying at and playing for Saints - should he be good enough at that stage) but 'Nasty Nic' might do a tough deal to make this (and the players onward development) difficult to happen then I am happy for their child to go and 'use' another academy for their own good/greed.

Oh, and if your son is 10 then he might too old anyway - Saints recruit at age 7.

But don't the parents (via the boy's agent if they have one) have the last word on whether the lad signs up for a 'bigger' club?

Given a choice of playing only 20 minutes or so for an Arsenal or Chelsea are they likely to turn the opportunity down? (one would hope not now of course). Surely it is up to the agent or their legal advisor to negotiate and inform them of any dubious clauses. Or would it be too much to ask that an agent has the skills to do this, or even the inclination since it might be in his/her interest to seal the deal at any future cost to the lads development?.

Meanwhile without the reputation and training at Saints Academy the lad might not have got to this enviable opportunity.

how has he been shafted exactly?

Restricted playing time limiting development, or do you think he wants to warm the bench? if he had stayed he would be going great guns, starting week in week out like shaw by now. may also have won the championship, either way he would have had some success.

I can imagine Wenger now trying to work out exactly how much injury has to be added, so he can time bringing AOC on to the second. I can hear the howls of indignation and see the watch tapping if he thinks the ref has added too much injury time....
