Saint_John Posted 19 August, 2013 Share Posted 19 August, 2013 It depends on who we are playing. For example on the 15th Sept we play Hoof Ball and I would play the 2 best headers at CB, however 6 days later we are away at Liverpool where we will need to play the best at "reading the game" to match the darting runs from their forwards. IMO it is no longer about "best x1" but about having a squad - 2 players for every position.

Sour Mash Posted 19 August, 2013 Share Posted 19 August, 2013 Doesn't seem like Puncheon will be featuring too much in MP's plans, definitely well behind Lallana in the pecking order.
Roger Posted 19 August, 2013 Author Share Posted 19 August, 2013 I think definate starters mostly are: Boruc, clyne, lovren, shaw, wanyama, Morgan, lambert, osvaldo. I'd say yoshida slightly ahead of Fonte, hooilveld. Say sometimes cork or ward prowse make a 3 away from home. I'd say gaston, Lallana and j rod about the same in terms of bring picked with puncheon and s Davis behind although not sure puncheon should be behind tbh. S Davis will play in a role of say marking a holding midfield playmaker

Depends on the opposition, home or away and so on. Lots of options anyway so form and fitness will be vital for all. As above.
FarehamRed Posted 19 August, 2013 Share Posted 19 August, 2013 I'd throw caution to the winds and play 4-1-4-1 with the front 5 being very fluid and swapping positions throughout the game. Something like: ---------------- Boruc ----------------- Shaw --- Lovren ----- Fonte ---- Clyne --------------- Wanyama -------------- Lallana --- Lambert --- Schneiderlin --- Rodriguez --------------- Osvaldo ----------------- (Good old fashined "you score 3, we'll score 4 type football). Colinjb Posted 19 August, 2013 Share Posted 19 August, 2013 On paper probably the best Saints team I've seen. BUT, harsh that JWP doesn't make the squad! Think if Cork is on the bench you don't need Chambers as it's rare you'll need to replace the right back and he's good enough there for emergencies, so JWP in for Chambers. Fair comments.... It's a tricky business this, just cause for so many players to be in there. Good times!

West End Saint Posted 19 August, 2013 Share Posted 19 August, 2013 Surprised by the number of people that think Ramirez should start on current performance not for me, dont get me wrong I hope he becomes the player his hype, pricetag & the glimpses of brilliance he has shown but at the moment he is not at it. It will be very interesting to see how MP plays Lambo & Osvaldo looking forward to seeing how we line up against Sunderland. Lazlo78 Posted 19 August, 2013 Share Posted 19 August, 2013 Look at the appearance stats from last season to see how much the squad will probably be utilised this season: http://www.soccerbase.com/teams/team.sd?team_id=2471&teamTabs=stats Cork, JWP, Hooiveld, Ramirez, Puncheon etc. will all see plenty of action even though they may not be first on the team sheet. Between those departed and departing from the club, there are 19 starts and 21 subs appearances last season...

sammysaint Posted 19 August, 2013 Share Posted 19 August, 2013 Have to say I think Puncheon is being forced out, after last season he deserves more of a chance and someone like Gaston should be forced out, Yes he is a better player and will eventually produce the goods for a top side, but for me he wont do it in the prem. Mayuka needs a loan deal weather he likes it or not and JWP also needs to go on loan in the championship or we let go S.Davis as we cant keep all them 3 happy now. My Team would be GK Boruc DL Shaw DC Fonte DC Lovren DR Clyne DMC Morgan DMC Wanyama LW Lallana AMC Osvaldo RW Jay Rod CF Lambo. Bench Davis, Chambers Yoshida Cork Gaston and depending who stays ideally for me last two would be Punch and JWP.

Saint Charlie Posted 19 August, 2013 Share Posted 19 August, 2013 Interesting how many people: 1.) Are picking Osvaldo but not upfront. Surely he will play up top rather than being shoehorned in out wide? 2.) Are picking Lambert as a no 10 style player. I know he drops deep as part of his game but could he actually play from that position all the time, or would his lack of mobility be found out, but attacking wise and also in the pressing game?
Barry Sanchez Posted 19 August, 2013 Share Posted 19 August, 2013 I think as it stands you cant afford to leave either of them out, play the two dovetailing each other with Lallana and Rodriguez going across each other and crossing the balls in, Puncheon is another option for Lallana.
