Sunderland attendance?

I bought some last night. Block 3 still has a section of tickets. I will be collecting them this morning so will ask. but I would imagine now Os has signed it will sell out. Which to be honest it should. I paid £37 in block 1. The club have really invested so we should do all we can to support that backing.

Agreed after signings like we've had we should be selling out easily.

Really should sell out. Any idea on Sunderland attendance? Long way for them to come.

I think they brought around 1,500 last time, in December weather and on a poor-ish run of form. Quite impressive, expect them to bring a few more this time.

As the first game of the season, on the face of it - this game should sell out no problem. We're also on the back of so many positive stories for the club:

- Rickie called up for England

- Record signings home debuts

- Win last week

- 4 academy players in first XI

If it doesn't, then you can only point to the ticket pricing and the fact you can watch the game in a shedload of pubs around the city, or at home if you wish...

Traditionally the first 3 or 4 home games of the season are the least attractive games. When previously in the PL and per last season too, our best attendance figures are to be found at the back end of the season. Of last season's opening 4 league games we only sold out against Man United, with games against Wigan and Fulham attracting 29K and 28K respectively. If we sell out against the likes of Sunderland, West Ham, Crystal Palace and Swansea then it would hard to argue that our crowds have moved on since last season.

It's still a bit of a sh*t system if you're looking for tickets and there's only a few left; there's no quick and easy way to find the available seats, you have to manually search in each block. At the bare minimum it needs something to tell you that a particular block is completely sold out; at best, an up to date system that lists (as you have done) the amount available in each block.

I'd be really disappointed if it wasn't sold out. It's our first game of the season at home off the back of a win, Rickies first game at st mary's after his england call up, we've just signed the italian number nine and looking the strongest we have in years.

For the record, football league newcomers Newport County have a system that does this, albeit only for about 5000 seats, but scale isn't really the issue, it's the crappy system. Which is less capable than one used by a poky L2 team that only even needs to sell tickets about 1/5th of the time.

Block 43 shows 922 left for me. I've totted it up and it came to 3,013 remaining.

Eh? Block 43 shows 922 left on the ticket site, but you've listed it as 480?! In fact, all of the figures posted are wrong. There were around 300 left in 1 & 2!

That doesn't make sense. I counted the green seats. Ah well maybe that stag weekend in Bournemouth finished me off :-(

They are not all wrong btw. Looking again I messed up with the split blocks sorry. Anyway it still shows we are a long way from selling out. I don't believe it will sell out now. About 29k max is my shout.

I hope I am wrong.

You didn't physically count them did you?! There's text at the top of each block that tells you how many seats are in the block, and how many seats are still for sale.

You counted every green seat?! When you click on a block, it tells you at the top the total number of seats and seats left in brackets.

You don't need to count the green seats, the number available in the block is listed at the top of the page

Lets have a look at our opening home game attendances in the Premier League whilst at St Mary's.

2001/02 - Chelsea - 31,107

2002/03 - Middlesbrough - 28,341

2003/04 - Birmingham City - 31,656

2004/05 - Blackburn Rovers - 27,492

2012/13 - Wigan Athletic - 29,604

Average: 29,640.

Anything over 30K would be decent on Saturday, although with the current feel good factor around the club it is slightly disappointing that we aren't selling out for this one. The club would help themselves by telling people block 43 was open to home fans, I doubt many even realise.

According to the online booking system, there's around 3200 tickets still available in home areas.

Sunderland have not taken the full allocation, meaning that the whole of block 43 is on sale to home fans.

I hate it when they do this, the atmosphere is always sh!te when they open up Block 43 to Saints fans at the last minute.

In all the games where the away team didn't bring their full allocation last season, and we subsequently opened up Block 43 to home fans we lost I think, apart from Reading (obviously)....not a good omen for Saturday.

555 tickets sold since last night. 2,458 remaiming. Northam (block 43 exempted - 829 tickets remain here), Kingsland North & Kinglsand virtually sold out. Odd seats here and there. Blocks 34, 35 and 36 are complete sell outs.

Main areas of availability are Chapel, Chapel/Itchen corner, Itchen North. Yet again, the front of block 3 has a big bunch of spare seats together.

I remember when block 43 was open for a League Cup game against Yeovil circa 2006. It was sold out, everybody was stood from back to front, and for a League Cup game it was a pretty decent atmosphere. I find now that whenever it is open, other than the very very back of the stand, everybody else is sat.

It is nice being able to see Saints fans in the Northam on the TVthough, looks like it is exclusively an away end most of the time as the camera doesn't pan round enough to show block 42.

Can't believe how low the Wigan attendance was last season.

Sorry I can account for 2 off the Wigan fixture, we had to go to a family Wedding in Wales which conveniently put us in the right area for inspecting Student Accom for our Daughter.................. oh hang on a minute we have season tickets so we were there: carry on.
