Sunderland build up thread.

I think the system Poch, wants to play is by using the Full Backs as almost wingers an in Shaw and Clyne we have two of the best at doing that but to do that you need players like JWP and JRod who will work up and down to cover. Unless the full backs are told to sit in. A front 4 of Lallana, Ramirez, Ossie and SRL might look great but cant see a lot of defending from the front with those 4

Good to have options though. I hope we see at least 30 mins of Ossie

I am hoping the same, really want to see this guy, but I get the feeling he might sit out this one

:D

Why would you have Danny Fox or Matthew Targett (who hasn't even been training with the 1st team) on the bench over Calum Chambers?

I hear what you're saying Matthew ? but was struggling to find options beyond Fox... Perhaps Chambers can cover Clyne in event of Clune moving across to left back if needed.

Point sustained!

Going to be a tough one for us tomorrow, Sunderland are on a bad run of form and will want to go out and try and put us on the back foot. Important that we keep the ball and keep it in their half.

----------------BORUC--------------

CLYNE----LOVREN----MAYA-----SHAW

----------BIG VIC----MORGAN--------

-----JAYROD---LAMBERT---LALLANA--

---------------OSVALDO-------------

Subs: K.Davis, Chambers, Fonte, S.Davis, JWP, Ramirez, Guly

Rickie in a deeper role to hold up the ball and try and play in the runners. Jay and Adam tucking in at attacking midfield to let the full-backs overlap. Big Vic and Morgan to sit deep and break up the play like they did so well against West Brom.

Can't wait for this one, COYR!

The feeling of expecting to win reminds me a bit of Wigan at home last year.

All PL games are tough and we will have to play well to win.

Yes, I'm no Alpine Saint, but I can remember many optimistic build ups to games where Saints have fallen flat on their face. I remember when all we had to do was beat Brighton and home in the old money Division One to go top of the League for the first time in our history - everyone was up for it a packed out Dell - result? Lost 2-0.

It must be my long history of being a Saints fan [46 years and counting, my brother forced me to go at six] but I have seen this type of situation many times - more often than not Saints some how contrive to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

I'm hoping 3-0 but I have a horrible feeling 0-2.

Luckily I am wrong so many times it could cancel out my misgivings.

Look at me....

Being anxious is characteristic of a true fan - surely we can't win 2 out of 2 to start the season - but this isn't the Saints' teams of old. We now have our fair share of full and current internationals, plus a manager who really knows how to motivate his players. Feel confident of a win this afternoon and by more than one goal. On predicting MP's selection, I think he might keep JWP and that it could be JRod who will lose out if Osvaldo starts, although wouldn't be surprised if MP holds Osvaldo on the bench until the second half.

Gus Poyet! joining Andy Gray as the pundits on Jazeerah for us Middle East Exiles today love to see him describing a Saints win!

It may not occur to Al Jazeerah that in the UK those pundits are probably regarded as about as low as you can get and that both would struggle to work here. Poyet may have blotted his copybook with the BBC over claiming on air that he didn't know about his dismissal, which Brighton stated afterwards was untrue. Having to work with the disgraced Grey shows he really is sinking without trace.

I can't stand Poyet but quite like Gray as a pundit he speaks with some knowledge and despite his rather unfortunate comments deserves a second chance! Also Jaziarah is big business these days and they are probably both getting a fortune!
