Very happy. Good overall performance and a deserved win.

Chambers didn't look out of place and our two new signings slotted in beautifully....

Great start to the season

Nervy stuff to go so long without the deserved goal. For Saints though, a win on the first game of the season is absolutely terrific. I are happier than a pig in chit.

rounds off a good week...

RL for England

Young Badger into the uni of his choice

three points today,and RL scoring...

Some 'happy-beer' called for tonight...

Thought for about an hour we were by far the better team. Harshly had a goal ruled out for offside

1st half, better by a mile. they had some spells in the 2nd half

very much a deserved win and we look very good to be fair.

Shaw, Lovren, Chambers were very good

Lambert was pretty quiet but stepped up when it counted

JWP and wanyama were excellent. JWP is very very good on the ball and picks up great positions around the box

Wanyama is just brilliant. gives away the odd silly free kick but had yacob in his pocket in the 1st half

Great performance, fantastic debuts all round, great to see Chambers step-up and take the pressure off of Shaw and Clyne, good attacking performance today, Lorven looked impressively good and Wanyama, what a signing he looks to be!

The only downsides... we still look nervous defensively at times, Fonte looks the weak link and we gave away 24 fouls, which is a worry statistic. We needed to be tougher, but I worry it'll end in injuries and suspensions.

Still, great performance and a bloody brilliant start to what looks to be a very promising season.

MOTM for me... Wanyama, closely followed by Shaw.

Great performance, the new boys looked very good, and a good debut from Chambers at right back.

Just outside the Champions league place on Alphabetical order. Bring on the Makems .

When was the last time we won an opening game away from home?...Coventry in the 90s rings a bell.

It rang a bell with me too just after the commentators told me all about it. ;)

Great result. I thought we faded badly in the second half and we were lucky to get a penalty because we didn't really look like creating much. Cracking save from Boruc near the end to deny them an equaliser.

Overall I thought our defence looked a lot more solid than last season but we seemed to sit back and invite a lot of pressure from WBA at times - didn't see much evidence of the high-press today.

Wanyama and Lovren look to have added some real quality to the side. Only real weak link today was Fonte with more than a fair share of sliced clearances that put us in trouble.

Still think we need another striker though.

Opening day win, away from home, clean sheet, another goal from SRL.

Completely outplayed the Baggies.

Great by Boruc towards the end.

Excellent debuts by Wanyama and Lovren, but even better performances from JWP and MoM Luke Shaw.

What's not to like?

Brilliant performance - thought we tired towards the end so great to dig out a result. Wanyama and Lovren look immense signings. Shaw even better than last season, and Chambers and JWP looked very assured too. Really optimistic.

We we're brilliant, apart from a few wayward passes from fonte, and a proper goal scorer who will stand in the 6 yard box, we are solid. Wanyama and lovren beasted it. Strong squad looking at that bench and the subs made.

Top 6 easy.

Great start to the season

answered my questions.

what did VW and DL play like?

Shaw, Chambers and JWP all looking good?

perhaps red is a lucky colour?

New players outstanding. Young players from Academy also had excellent games. Good decision to bring Gaston on for AL, the guy is a genuine game changer. Lambert my hero.

A lot of credit for the club in terms of progress made over the summer, clearly improved - very optimistic about the season ahead. If we can also overturn the Mackems next week that will be a big 6 point swing in our favour YoY.

Great time to be a Saints fan!

Wanyama outstanding, im a big fan of Cork but Wanyama seems like a great upgrade. Chambers looked a little nervous at times but generally looked fairly comfortable. Fonte still gives me the shivers but Lovren was great, superb tackle on anelka 2nd half. Good defensive showing which is promising.

Just a thought but I think the last time we beat WBA on the opening day in 1975 we went on to win the FA Cup.

Stream dies on the shout of penalty. Mad scramble for the remote to hear Lambert had tucked it away. What a week for him.

Great debut from Wanyama too. He'll do well for us I reckon.

I would just like to point out we had three 18 year olds in that team.

Oh, and for those that don't rate JWP, you need your heads tested!!

Well done you mighty Saints.....The whole team/subs deserve our praise..

Deserved the win...by far the better side.

Lovren and Wanyama ..top signings and star quality..

Chambers, JWP and Shaw....superb.

Love Rickie Lambert!

Always going to take a victory on the first day and against a team who comfortably smashed us twice last season! First half looked good without creating a great deal but felt Lovren and Wanyama both looked good. Not sure why the offside goal wasn't given if as the commentators said it was offside against Lallana. 2nd half WBA got right back into it and it looked that our good work would count for nowt when they had their 20 mins of pressure. Soon as the peno was given though ... no doubt! You just don't save those!

I love how everyone played so well. You know?!

Fonte and Lovren very solid, Lovren especially. Chambers and Shaw were brilliant. How lucky are we to have two quality young English right backs at the club?

Wanyama and Morgan great in the middle, with Prowse also having a great game. Lallana not bad at times, linking well. And of course Mr Reliable SRL.

Eeeeexcellent.

Took us five games to get this points total last year, get in boys!

My stream died at 87 mins so missed the pen. Very annoying, but chuffed with the last minute pen - overall, we definitely deserved it.

Some great debuts - Lovren, Chambers, and Wanyama all slotted in seamlessly. Lovren's awareness, composure, and passing made us look so much more organized at the back - who would have thought we had two 18 year old full backs playing? With Chambers, Shaw, and JWP, the future is very bright.

Looked a bit toothless going forward and J-Rod didn't have a great game, but hoping we will get one or two more options in to add competition there.

Game was pretty dull in second half, but we stayed switched on, remained obdurate, and got our rewards. Not often I said that last season!
