Toon Saint Posted 15 August, 2013 Share Posted 15 August, 2013 I've thought this too. When Pochettino has spoken in English it feels that its not him talking. Yes, this exactly. It's kind of unsettling.
RonManager Posted 15 August, 2013 Share Posted 15 August, 2013 Yes, this exactly. It's kind of unsettling. Even worse than that, when someone transcribes what was said as a post on here or on the OS, I actually read it in his voice in my head, ffs. John Boy Saint Posted 15 August, 2013 Share Posted 15 August, 2013 He understood me well enough in Spain when I spoke to him in English, even understood my mates Missus when she said to my mate how good looking he was in the flesh and she was stood 20feet away and not saying it out loud either!!! Saint86 Posted 15 August, 2013 Share Posted 15 August, 2013 I think you may have slightly over analysed my post. A wise man once said "play the post not the poster" I have simply pointed out that we are an English club, playing in the English league with English speaking fans. Our manager has been here 8+ months and I expect him to be speaking English by now. I suspect alot of Saints fans feel the same. This is a forum.... Don't zenit fans expect all there players to be white... sometimes you just have to except people for who they are... even small hairy gingers from a 3rd rate footballing nation.. after all, we waited ages for strachan to do a coherent prezza in english... I don't remember that ever happening.
hutch Posted 15 August, 2013 Share Posted 15 August, 2013 I wasn't really concentrating because I was distracted in the office, but I thought I saw MP answer a question in English and his translator started to translate it into Spanish for the media
SaintRichmond Posted 15 August, 2013 Share Posted 15 August, 2013 8 months is more than long enough. Its the ENGLISH premier league and the Saints fans speak ENGLISH. Rude imho to keep speaking Spanish..... No other EPL manager does it IMHO, It is no longer the ENGLISH Premier League, for the simple reason that most of the starting elevens now comprise mainly of NON English players That's why picking an England Team is so very easy now, thereaint too many about

RonManager Posted 15 August, 2013 Share Posted 15 August, 2013 Of course it's still the English Premier League. Yes but only in a topographical sense, geomorphologically speaking of course.
suewhistle Posted 15 August, 2013 Share Posted 15 August, 2013 It's patently obvious that he speaks English, but perhaps he feels he can't do himself justice in expressing exactly what he wants in the context of a press conference. Using a translator also gives him more time to think. I'm sure if he met GS in the street he'd be able to say 'Ah, you are that preeek on SaintsWeb'.. the saint in winchester Posted 15 August, 2013 Share Posted 15 August, 2013 croque monsieur actually which just about prooves your point I guess. Crocs are those plastic shoes that the Dutch love so much. Proves. Good luck learning English, but you must try harder.
Olallana Posted 15 August, 2013 Share Posted 15 August, 2013 What to prefer..... A manager speaking his native language using the whole vocabulary, though interpreted.......or a manager having a smaller vocabulary resulting in only talking in clichee´s and standard frases without really saying anything.... Oh now I understand Glasgow, you miss Nigel Adkins non-saying presses...

Turkish Posted 15 August, 2013 Share Posted 15 August, 2013 More than that, MP actually shares news on injuries/transfers. MLG will be angry about this, after defending Adkins strategy of not revealing injuries so ferociously.

Saint Charlie Posted 15 August, 2013 Share Posted 15 August, 2013 Update on Clyne/Shaw at least, transfers not so much though. But understandable imo. He was more open in the first presser re Wanyama. Much more than NA ever was.

Croc Monsieur can be correct in the right context - eg Q(to a frenchman). 'Is that a trainer sir?' A 'Non, Eet eez a croc monsieur'.
