LIVE: Mauricio Pochettino's pre-match press conference

Am I reading too much into it, or might it be a special presser with a new player to be announced possibly?????

Every Saints league/cup game has a press conference in the two days before. It is mainly about the build up for the West Brom game, but journalists will ask about transfers.

I'd imagine he's referring more to the fact that it's being streamed live on youtube rather then a football team holding a pre game conference.

I know that, just wondered why this one was live? Showcasing youtube channel I suppose?

It was tested internally at Saints with a couple of pressers at the end of last season. It was a success so they're gonna be doing it for every presser from now on. Really looking to ezpand the YouTube channel. E.g they're also streaming every home game pre match show (pitchside) live on the YouTube channel this season with some behind the scenes content.

Just put 'southampton fc' or 'saints fc' into the you tube search then click channels. Select Southampton FC and then 'videos' it will who an option for the live presser first up. Click and it will tell you it starts shortly

MP is due in the building at 3pm, although press conference won't start 'til around 3:15pm. We'll be live when it does! #saintsfc

Bugger, I have a conference call at 3.30, this is going to call for some judicious use of the mute buttons

You have to change one of the dropdown boxes from "uploads" to "events"

needs to learn English ASAP! rude imho

Glasgow, you really set the bar low when it comes to quality. Perhaps post a little less and put a little bit more thought into each post?

In answer to your statement, we are aware the Pochettino is trying to learn English, and we have no reason to believe that he isn't trying to do this as soon as possible. In fact, suggesting that he should try to learn faster rude IMHO.

Where would you prefer he focus his efforts - coaching and preparing tactics for the new season, or refining his English?

He is clearly saying that to get someone to bite and you've just done exactly that. Is that not completely, blindingly obvious? How have you not learned that by now?

You writing this response is why he does it.

I have been on so many forums and I've never known any other forum where people just can't seem to grasp this concept. Forums have trolls and people who get kicks from making inflammatory comments. On 99 out of 100 forums, these people get either blocked, banned or people just plain ignore them, a strategy most people learn as children. But not here. It's crazy. Wise up!

8 months is more than long enough. Its the ENGLISH premier league and the Saints fans speak ENGLISH.

Rude imho to keep speaking Spanish..... No other EPL manager does it

Exactly Saint. Thinking about it I'd really love the BBC to make a documentary about the psyche of the internet "troll"; the reasons they do it, the emotional and chemical reactions they get from doing it etc. Would be fascinating. Wouldn't be surprised if they discovered some kind of trait of them having some kind of a history of abuse, self-esteem problems etc. Is it too cliched to suggest that they're just loners? Possibly, possibly not. But would be interesting as I think there is room for a show on this subject as you're right every single forum these days has these kind of people.

@Saint Agreed entirely, but for some reason on this particular forum, these characters aren't banned, or blocked. Do you ignore the elephant rampaging in the corner, or point out that they are making an prat of themselves? You are right ignoring the trolls makes most sense - I guess I respond to them in the vain hope that one of the mods might actually start restricting them to the muppet show where they belong. Tell you what, I'll try it your way. I won't respond to a troll for the next 6 months and see if that causes their activity to stop. I suspect not, but I'll give it a shot.

Back on topic - the conference seemed rather dull to me. Pochettino avoided talking about transfers, and I didn't pick up any new revelations. Did anyone notice anything of interest?

I think Richard Bacon recently did a documentary about internet 'trolls' as he was abused on Twitter.

Annoyingly, the term 'troll' has now been skewed by the BBC and the Daily Mail (and other papers) to mean 'internet bully' which is different. Those people who told Richard Bacon that they were going to kill his family and the scum on ask.fm who drove that girl to suicide aren't trolls, they're bullies and cowards. A troll is a more lighthearted approach without the malice. GS is a true troll and is a true artist when it comes to forum trolling.

He appears to be ignorant and makes ill informed comments that appear to be knee jerk reactions in order to elicit a response, when in truth I doubt he feels this way (at least not as strongly as it seems) and knows exactly what he is doing. The follow up response to that naive poster above shows this. He's going in for the kill.

It won't make them go away, because there will always be someone to bite. Especially when a lot of the people on here aren't that internet savvy. It's purely for personal well being and peace of mind. Don't get wound up and don't bite.

Well, as I said above, I'm going to try it your way. I've just made use of the Ignore facility for the first time - it doesn't feel right, but I'll give it a go. I think you are slightly confusing my previous responding to trolls as naivety. I know exactly what they are doing, and certainly aren't blind to the situation. The ignore option has never worked in the past, but the running rings around them and making them look silly has certainly seen a fair few trolls loose their temper and get themselves banned. But I'll give your suggestion another go, and see if it's more effective.

I think you may have slightly over analysed my post. A wise man once said "play the post not the poster"

I have simply pointed out that we are an English club, playing in the English league with English speaking fans. Our manager has been here 8+ months and I expect him to be speaking English by now.

I suspect alot of Saints fans feel the same. This is a forum....

After 8 months of doing French at school I could barely order a coffee with milk and a croc monsieur. I doubt Poch has achieved fluency in a similar period of time.

croque monsieur actually which just about prooves your point I guess. Crocs are those plastic shoes that the Dutch love so much.

[bite mode]Your original post said "needs to learn English ASAP!" when we all know that he has learned to speak English but he chooses not to use it in press conferences. If you're gonna cast a line for a response at least get the initial accusation correct ;)[/exit bite mode]

I've got quite used to David Salas translating now. So much so that I just think that his voice is Poch's voice, in some sort of strange disembodied way.

I've thought this too. When Pochettino has spoken in English it feels that its not him talking.
