Lambert as Captain

We have three international team captains in the first team squad..Davis, Wanyama and Lovren. We also have natural leaders like Morgan, Fonte even and Rickie.

Despite this I think we should stick with Lallana...he has shown loyalty for which he was rewarded with the captaincy and he doesn't do a bad job at all. With leadership all over the pitch we don't really have the need for an individual driver/character when they are there in abundance already. The captain's job these days is about respect and ability - communication from the touchline is done to whoever needs telling wherever they play. I believe that Lallana has that respect for his ability and he has been a constant in the time that every player at the club has been there - why change?

I said in another thread that we, as fans, possibly take his talent for granted because we've watched it develop over the years whereas other fans look on with envy........................and he calls a mean toss-up heads or tails!

Yes, for the WBA game.

After that Schneiderlin is the natural candidate for me , midfielder with drive who is in a position to influence the play and those around him. ( The 'Alan Ball' syndrome).

100% agree.

Any chance that AL might improve as Captain? It was his first year last year along with a lot of firsts. Lets give the lad a chance.

He was never a bad Captain. People picked up on his indifferent form in the second half of the season (after a 9 week injury) and for some reason said he shouldn't be Captain.

There may be arguments that Lambert could be a more suitable Captain at this stage, but I genuinely don't think we get any more or less out of our players whether or not they have the Captains armband.

Therefore as a symbol I think giving Lallana the captaincy is a fair move from the club - he represents a lot of what the club wants to be about.

Yawn. Another slating as Adam as captain. He's fine, his form dipped with injury, naff all to do with being captain. You should be proud that a talented lad that's stuck by saints through thick and thin is our captain.

This. Don't think people understand the role the captain of a side has. It's not about clapping and shouting and all the other stuff which gets the mouth breathers in the stands excited. The captain does a lot off the field which the fans never see, they are the conduit between players and management and organise a load of stuff on behalf of the squad.

Anyway it won't make any difference. Adam Lallana is a **** captain and that is now folklore here in Mongolia.

could not agree more. Captains armband has zero effect on player performance on the pitch.
