Is there any danger of Rickie going to Liverpool?

Following Rickie's England performance, and assuming he'll start the season playing as well or better than last, does anyone think there's any danger that Brendan Rodgers might swoop for him? I'm sure he wouldn't leave us to go anywhere else, but Liverpool would easily nick him for next to nothing as he'd be desperate to play for them if they showed any interest.

West Ham fan suggested to me last night that Liverpool should take him off our hands for £60m this morning, they could play him out of position for 12 months and then sell him to them for a fiver next year...

Brilliant!! Must make sure we get a follow on fee clause inserted into the deal ;-)

You could have said to them that they might loan him for a season first from Liverpool and then pay over the top themself ;)

The question you need to ask is would you see Cortese selling him?

In reality his transfer value would be about £4-5 mill,to us he is priceless and I have no doubts that NC knows that,he would want serious ££ for him and nobody would be willing to pay that.

Plus every interview this week I have seen with SRL he has bigged this club/fans up to the tilt,he loves it here we love him here and I have no doubt he will finish his career here and be up there with Le Tiss in term of club legends

complete non starter imo

My gut feeling is he would reject them to stay

Absolutely no chance. They're his team and if he had the chance to finish his career there he would jump at it.

And after everything he has done for us i don't think we should stand in his way either if that situation presented itself, which is extremely unlikely anyway

Why would the club sell him for what would be a modest sum?

He's worth a darn sight more to us than his transfer value would ever cover.

As for the emotional angle I think SFC have a pretty big pull on him, even if the rival was LFC (which it won't ever be IMO).

Osvaldo - Lambert would be a dream up front.

After thanking SFC for everything they've done for him last night there's no chance he's going anywhere, the blokes got real loyalty towards us.

But no, he won't go to Liverpool. Not a Rodgers player at all.

Absolutely no chance you can be certain ;)

this isn't a 17 year old straight from kop swapping season ticket for a Liverpool shirt.

Nor would it change his international chances, like it would have when he was younger.

I don't know but think he would prefer to stay at the club he loves and his given him the fairy tail.

So he said this after he'd left Celtic and not whilst still under contract with them?

TBH - had we actually given him a fairy 'tail' I think he would've been off to Liverpool pretty damn quickly....!

The Liverpool Echo report that Lambert was rejected by Blackpool and fail to mention Liverpool FC dumping him. The only way I can see Liverpool bidding for him is if Suarez goes and then the owner sacks Rodgers and they get desparate with their league position. Not this window.

What I mean is we all know his allegiance to the club, but I'm sure he would at least consider a move to his boyhood club and his praise for Southampton wouldn't really change that. His love for the club would make it a very tough decision, not a very easy one.

Anyway, between Liverpool actually wanting him, Liverpool offering enough money, Saints accepting that offer and Rickie himself wanting to go I'd be amazed if this happened.

That's an incredibly dogmatic statement. I think that it is a lot less clear cut than that. It was with us that his career really took off and I don't think that he would s**t on us.

If an offer came in and Ricky wants to go, i'd be delighted for him and wouldn't mind if we let him go for free. Lambert is a saints legend, but the last thing on his list of personal ambitions is to play for Liverpool, after everything that we have been through with him and he has done for us I wouldn't want to stand in the way of that. Prefer to loan him to Liverpool though if we have to...

Why? He is under contract. The club have the right to sell him for market value, which I suggest went from £5M to £10M after last night's performance. Can't see Liverpool offering that, and I can't see Cortese selling him at all.

There an article in today's Evening Standard in which Patrick Barclay reckons that, because Rooney was pretty poor last night, Chelsea and Arsenal will give up trying to sign him and turn their attentions to Rickie.

Not convinced myself. I think that they would want someone younger with a proven top-flight record.

Liverpool would not pay big money for a player with only a year or two left of prolific goal scoring ability. The only way would be for Rickie to moan & moan to go giving us no choice but to sell. Absolutely no chance of that happening given his clear loyalty and professional attitude.

Really excited about the coming season though. Rickie's going to be on fire with the thought of a genuine chance to play in the WC next summer

Why do we always have to ruin something by worrying ourselves stupid over something that quite clearly won't happen. Rodgers got rid of Carroll because he didn't suit their style of play so I somewhat doubt he'd buy Lambert.

i know we keep saying theres no such thing as loyalty in the game any more, but i believe that SRL will stick with Saints, he has acknowledged on a number of occasions that coming to us has been the key to his recent success. 20 mins of international football and stunning debut goal will not change the him he is a decent man. The big teams are not in the habit of splashing the sort of money we would want for a 31 year old.
