Matthew Le Tissier Posted 14 August, 2013 Share Posted 14 August, 2013 Out of interest does anyone now how many saints fans there are world wide. Roughly like, I was just thinking of it earlier but couldn't even guess a figure as I haven't a clue. Random I know.
Colinjb Posted 14 August, 2013 Share Posted 14 August, 2013 God. Good question. I dare say an impossible one though.

Matthew Le Tissier Posted 14 August, 2013 Author Share Posted 14 August, 2013 Well what I thought was. God inbet there's more people watching the England game tonight as rickie is playing I though well maybe 1% attend st Mary's So maybe roughly 3 million? Them I thought could you base it on how many people were born in Southampton over the last 80 years? Those that were but ate glory hunters would make up for others who support who weren't born in Southampton No idea I say 3 million

SaintBobby Posted 15 August, 2013 Share Posted 15 August, 2013 I saw a poll somewhere about a year ago saying 1% of Brits support Southampton...so that would be c. 600,000. Maybe 1m worldwide?
Saintandy666 Posted 15 August, 2013 Share Posted 15 August, 2013 How do we define fan here? I kno wplenty of people who 'support' Southampton, and by that they have a passing interest. I wouldn't imagine it'd be more than a few hundred thousand max. In terms of actual dedicated fans, you are talking tens of thousands in my opinion. John Boy Saint Posted 15 August, 2013 Share Posted 15 August, 2013 55,000 fell out of the woodwork for the JPT and still loads missed out. There was a survey someone had done a few years ago across a very wide spectrum of UK people and the upshot was that Saints were the 17th most supported team in the UK. I know that the number of folks surveyed was quite immense. As I type something along the lines of proportional representation seem to spring to mind so the respondents had to put 3 teams down. so maybe I should go to bed and stop my input into this topic. BadgerBadger Posted 15 August, 2013 Share Posted 15 August, 2013 Got a mate who's living out in Melbourne and they get 20 odd Saints fans watching games at 4am in a local pub and that is, obviously, only the hardcore bunch - he says that a good chunk of them have no direct links to Southampton either. Kenya will be the next stronghold......
BlakeySFC Posted 15 August, 2013 Share Posted 15 August, 2013 Well I'd say 5% of the Japanese population probably support us to some degree because of Tadanari Lee (and now Yoshida)...so that's 6.4 million in Japan alone...then you've got god knows how many Yanks that got on the Saints bus, which I'd estimate to be between 100,000-200,000 people (America's a big place). 50,000 Indonesians, 50,000 Australians (including Saints abroad), probably 10,000 in the UAE, 50,000 in continental Europe. Then we've probably got around 150,000 Saints fans in the UK.
aussiesaint20 Posted 15 August, 2013 Share Posted 15 August, 2013 Have been working on connecting and building our overseas support in the last couple of months, so I'll give it a go. These are Facebook statistics in relation to your question: # Country Local Fans % of Fan Base 1 United Kingdom 35700 62.6 % 2 Thailand 1231 2.2 % 3 United States 1187 2.1 % 4 Indonesia 1179 2.1 % 5 Australia 1155 2.0 % Other Countries 16602 29.1 % Those figures only include people that 'like' the official Southampton Facebook page(57,000 atm). Some of the more impressive numbers worldwide on Social Media include: 1200+ Indonesian Saints on Twitter 5000+ Japanese Saints on Twitter 1100+ Thai Saints on Facebook 800+ Russian Saints on the Russian version of Facebook 1800+ Australian Saints combined on Facebook or Twitter For a full listing of up do date overseas groups visit the following link: 'Social media pages and important links for Saints fans outside Southampton' If you are living outside the UK and use Facebook or Twitter, make sure to include the #GlobalSFC hashtag this season to connect with other Saints from around the world. Hope that helps.
