Shroppie Posted 13 August, 2013 Share Posted 13 August, 2013 Where is everyone heading then? Me + 1 arrive in Brum around 11:45 and not done WBA before. Lots of choice. If you're arriving by train, try the Wellington on Bennetts Hill off New Street. Always16 real ales on. Near the ground, The Vine has superb Indian BBQ
Saint Garrett Posted 13 August, 2013 Author Share Posted 13 August, 2013 Sounds good mate cheers. Any advice on getting from new street to WBA? Bus/taxi?
saints_is_the_south Posted 13 August, 2013 Share Posted 13 August, 2013 Sounds good mate cheers. Any advice on getting from new street to WBA? Bus/taxi? Train to Smethwick Galton Bridge, change there and then on to the Hawthornes (that's the name of the station too, a stones throw from the ground). Takes about 20 minutes from Birmingham New Street. Alternatively, you can get a direct train from Birmingham Moor Street or Birmingham Snow Hill. Shroppie Posted 13 August, 2013 Share Posted 13 August, 2013 (edited) Metro from Moor Street to The Hawthorns or Kerrick Park, which is close to The Vine. Follow the crowd from there to the ground. Edited 15 August, 2013 by Shroppie
Saint Garrett Posted 14 August, 2013 Author Share Posted 14 August, 2013 Is the Vine any good? worth getting there early, or just heading over there for one or two before the game?
Shroppie Posted 14 August, 2013 Share Posted 14 August, 2013 Beer's ok, BBQ is awesome. It will get VERY busy. Reckon on 20 mins queuing for food, but worth it. Strange place - tiny rooms in the original pub then massive room and marquee at the back
Minsk Posted 14 August, 2013 Share Posted 14 August, 2013 (edited) Does anybody know if most pubs in the area are away supporter friendly? Any that should be avoided? Shroppie Posted 14 August, 2013 Share Posted 14 August, 2013 If you're not happy mods, then please move it. I've found town centre pubs to be unfriendly. Better Brum or near the ground.
Sour Mash Posted 14 August, 2013 Share Posted 14 August, 2013 Is the Vine any good? worth getting there early, or just heading over there for one or two before the game? It gets absoluely packed, nice long wait at the bar.
Georgie Posted 14 August, 2013 Share Posted 14 August, 2013 What's parking like around the ground? I see there are a few industrial estates- parking for a fee? Probably going to get there about 12:
Shroppie Posted 14 August, 2013 Share Posted 14 August, 2013 Never driven it, sorry. May be some street parking by The Vine
John D Posted 14 August, 2013 Share Posted 14 August, 2013 Never driven it, sorry. May be some street parking by The Vine Plenty of street parking around ground or pay a fiver to park on an industrial site. We gave up on Vine last season as it was 30minto get served so ended up drinking in ground.
The9 Posted 15 August, 2013 Share Posted 15 August, 2013 We parked in the forecourt of some tyre place on the main road last year, but it was an evening game so they were just closing when we got there.
Saint Garrett Posted 15 August, 2013 Author Share Posted 15 August, 2013 It gets absoluely packed, nice long wait at the bar. Hmm...might sack that one off then...is there literally no other pubs in West Brom!?
SaintMilesie Posted 15 August, 2013 Share Posted 15 August, 2013 Hmm...might sack that one off then...is there literally no other pubs in West Brom!? The Briar Rose & Wellington on Bennets Hill only 5 mins walk from New Street Station, much better heading there IMO, then a 10min walk to Moor street station to catch a train The Hawthorns
warsash saint Posted 15 August, 2013 Share Posted 15 August, 2013 Anyone been in The Vine after the game? Is it likely to be rammed as looking to grab me & the nipper something to eat before drive home?
Sour Mash Posted 15 August, 2013 Share Posted 15 August, 2013 Hmm...might sack that one off then...is there literally no other pubs in West Brom!? Tons of good pubs around Birmingham, and then just 10mins on the train to The Hawthorns.
Saint Garrett Posted 15 August, 2013 Author Share Posted 15 August, 2013 Tons of good pubs around Birmingham, and then just 10mins on the train to The Hawthorns. Think this is more likely to be honest. Sure they'll be plenty of Saints fans about!
