Barry Sanchez Posted 13 August, 2013 Posted 13 August, 2013 into it? We never have done this before as we rise above it but should we now show this blatant hypocrisy by Spain, they are our friends and have been for years but we need to show they are being hypocritical and having a pick and mix approach to overseas territories, the areas I specifically refer to are Ceuta and Melilla which are on the African mainland in Morroco who have been asking for them back for years, you could also bring into the argument the Canary Islands as they were taken with force, Gibraltar was signed over to the British by the Spanish. In short its the oldest trick in the book used by Nations all over the World when they are in trouble they bring out the old Nationlist card to mask whatever ills their Nation has at the time, in this instance its financial.
alehouseboys Posted 13 August, 2013 Posted 13 August, 2013 There's an obvious solution to all this. They give up claims to Gib and in return we gift them portsea island. The Spanish get a bit of unwanted space with a community that's very different to everyone else on the mainland, the Navy solve the problem of which of their dockyards to close and the rest of us can keep going on holiday. Everyone's a winner.

This is my opinion, your tag of wanting more cheap Labour in is permanent and also selling out so I should be careful if I were you of incorrectly labelling, anyway we digress as per usual with slants and abuse, lets stick to the topic shall we?

Indeed, why even us Brits are doing it! Not the tune, just the title.
Doctoroncall Posted 13 August, 2013 Posted 13 August, 2013 Not helping yourself shake off this dune tag Baz. Tokos that's naughty of you, but it's drawn out the counter attack from Baz which is funnier!
Barry Sanchez Posted 13 August, 2013 Author Posted 13 August, 2013 Tokos that's naughty of you, but it's drawn out the counter attack from Baz which is funnier! It is funny seeing as Toyko has posted without Bearsy and he thinks I'm Dune, Toyko is happier in the 1700's sailing from Africa to the West Indies too be honest.
pap Posted 13 August, 2013 Posted 13 August, 2013 Gibraltar. Massively important when we were throwing our weight around in the naval arena. Not so much now. Given that it could be very useful in the future, probably worth working with the Spanish to resolve this. Suggesting that they give up the Canaries probably won't help.

Fairs fair, and who can correct my typo of Gibraltar, very annoying.
Colinjb Posted 13 August, 2013 Posted 13 August, 2013 Have to say, I have had that thought too, Cueta and Melilla when compared to Gibraltar are not too far away from each other in principle. Just need to find a similar example relating to Argentina/the Falklands now!
Tokyo-Saint Posted 13 August, 2013 Posted 13 August, 2013 Tokos that's naughty of you, but it's drawn out the counter attack from Baz which is funnier! Thank you Doc. Never said you were dune Baz, just said you are not helping shake off the dune tag. First an anti Eu thread, now a Gibraltar. I am sure your Falklands one will be a blinder though.

Just need to find a similar example relating to Argentina/the Falklands now! No need to, they were originally colonists from Spain so a moot point. Maybe they should give Argentina back to the Ameriandians and return to Spain.
