The9 Posted 12 August, 2013 Share Posted 12 August, 2013 Rowe looks ready for a crack and Sinclair possibly too. Use them in the league cup I agree. Turnbull seems head and shoulders above Stephens who looks a liability. Frightening to see this performance by Stephens after the superb game he had early in his time against Man U. Barry Sanchez Posted 12 August, 2013 Share Posted 12 August, 2013 You can see what football without experienced, composed heads look like though. Loads of enthusiasm, some poor decision-making and a fair bit of loss of concentration, all a bit TOO fluid and busy. That is in essnce the England team in 10 years time, we never learn. Turnbull seems head and shoulders above Stephens who looks a liability. I liked the look of Turnbull last season, I would love to see him get some 1st team game time. Rowe as well. Undecided about Sinclair - some selfish elements to his game and some rashness that need to be bred out of him.
Minty Posted 12 August, 2013 Share Posted 12 August, 2013 There is some clear raw talent there though, and you can't coach that... given the rate of return of most Academies, I think we'll have at least 2 of that side make it close to the first team, which most clubs would bite your arm off for. We've almost been spoilt over the years, and now feel more disappointed when one doesn't make it.
dronskisaint Posted 12 August, 2013 Share Posted 12 August, 2013 Entertaining game...a bit error-strewn from both teams. The future looks cheery from the evidence of just one game. I'd have gone if I lived up there, being a supporter like...
corky morris Posted 12 August, 2013 Share Posted 12 August, 2013 Thought Stephens & Turnbull were very poor today. Our passing was poor as well. That said we won, but that is down to the pace we have. Also noticed how short the team is excluding the 2 centre backs.

Interesting...I thought Turnbull looked good, definitely not a brilliant performance but he looks far more composed than Stephens..and left footed. Rowe was excellent, Sinclair has something about him but I think his slight lack of ppace may be his undoing ultimately, although I'm sure he play at least Championship level. I particularly liked the look of Reed, have feeling he will have a very good career. If the goal is too get 2 or 3 progres to the first team SQUAD each summer then we are very well placed with Isgrove and Chambers up there this year. Very healthy club we have. ottery st mary Posted 12 August, 2013 Share Posted 12 August, 2013 LFC......excuses , excuses:rolleyes: How many times did the different individuals say they had 4/5 missing players.... I know it is LFC tv and all that.. Saints had Johns , Targett , Flanigin , Isgrove , Shaw , Chambers , Colmar MISSING......PLUS Robinson and Gape out injured. Maybe others? that is working on their theory ie those with the first team etc.. Just a little rant ...Not even a well done for Saints from Mark Wright....SOOOOOOOOOO Andy Townshend. They'd take your arms off for fluid, open and busy creative play compared to the turgid dullness they're currently serving up.

Can't say it bothered me, we're not the target audience. Flannigan played, and Shaw is hardly "missing" from the U21s when he's been in the starting side for 12 months. Their point was that (Wisdom aside), they were missing players. They did also say Saints were missing a few but I wouldn't expect them to know as much about Saints as Liverpool. Also, Mark Wright knows who's paying his wages and did exactly the same one-eyed thing for last season's Staplewood game.
ericofarabia Posted 12 August, 2013 Share Posted 12 August, 2013 One can only hope technique improves for some later in their careers, too compact and rushed. Shame you and Pap didn't get together for a chat and watch the game together - or is Kirby too down market?

Lallana's Left Peg Posted 12 August, 2013 Author Share Posted 12 August, 2013 That was fun to watch but I don't think Martin Hunter will be too happy overall. However, in a league where only the top four qualify for the post-season knockout tournament it is a very important three points against one of the best teams in it, no matter how weakened they were with absentees. Plus points: 1. We compete well despite not being the biggest of teams 2. The players are getting used to adopting elements of how the first team play 3. We have great pace and movement in the front three 4. Will Britt was brilliant Things to work on: 1. Being more careful with the ball when we have men committed forward (we looked very exposed on the break) 2. Seeing the game out - we could have been a lot more professional in the last 10mins (I think these are the sorts of things Martin Hunter alludes to when he talks about the consistency and professionalism that the players need to show to go to the next level) although Matt Young's timewasting at throw-ins is a very polished routine and reminded me of Lee Dixon at his prime. 3. Being more incisive up front (sometimes it looks like we overplay) Some very good prospects in the team though and it looks to be a promising season. Will be interesting to see how the team adopt to the pressure and expectation of being one of the best in the league.
