Our Development Squad kick off their season today with a tough game away at Liverpool. It is live on Liverpool TV which is free to air and on Sky channel 429.

Last season we were dominated up there and fortunate to only lose by the odd goal. Liverpool always have good youth teams and I expect this years effort to be no different. However, we have fully loaded our u21 team this year and everyone at u18 who impressed has been promoted to the development squad regardless of age (the likes of Harrison, Seager, Rowe, Gape, etc.)

All this means our u18 team this year is very young (mostly first year scholars) and they are expected to struggle a bit.

Back to this match - Gape is injured and Targett is on international duty so we are missing a couple of players but I am sure it is the same as Liverpool.

Should be a good match.

Looking forward to this (on Sky+). Match last year was mainly dominated by Suso and a couple others on the fringes of the Liverpool first team. Also got to see Forren play football!! Wonder if any of the 'forgotten men' will play today - i.e. Barnard, Sharp, Lee, Forte etc. Barnard played the away match last season I think (and was mostly hopeless).

Thought Britt's positioning was suspect for their first goal too, went back too far and lost his bearings - Stephens at fault though. I'm on delay, we're 13 mins in and still getting tonked at the moment :D

Ah, there it is. 1-1.

WTF are these commentators on.

"Don't forget, 6 or 7 of these Liverpool players were in the youth cup last season whereas Southampton have a much more experienced side"...erm, utter bullsh*t. Not one player over 20 as far as I can see?

"Southampton are a side that have brought players through to the first team in recent years, Luke Shaw...erm...Theo Walcott"

"Yeah, Rickie Lambert too"

WHAT????

Poor poor defending but easy to the eye going forward, heard that anywhere else...??

Would love to see Rowe against Barnsley in the league cup just to see him at that level if he´s up to it or not....

Stephens and Turnball spend 3 weeks with the senior central defenders, and then come back and play like this.

Coincidence? :uhoh:

I actually thought Turnbull was having a very good game - knocking it about well, looking composed, one good run forward.

Not sure the pen was a foul, never mind in the box, and the one where the ball came over the top Turnbull was pushed by both Liverpool's number 7 and then number 9 as he was about to clear, and the keeper should never have come that far and not got something. Thought Stephens has looked a bit... scared though.

Thanks to the wonders of time-shift technology I'm now back live, and we've already had one hit our post and keeper made a good save all of 30 seconds into the second half.

Would be nice to have Rowe and/or Sinclair given an opportunity of the bench. They would give us a very good pacey outlet when under the cosh holding onto a lead.

You can see what football without experienced, composed heads look like though. Loads of enthusiasm, some poor decision-making and a fair bit of loss of concentration, all a bit TOO fluid and busy.
