Lallana's Left Peg Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 Our Development Squad kick off their season today with a tough game away at Liverpool. It is live on Liverpool TV which is free to air and on Sky channel 429. Last season we were dominated up there and fortunate to only lose by the odd goal. Liverpool always have good youth teams and I expect this years effort to be no different. However, we have fully loaded our u21 team this year and everyone at u18 who impressed has been promoted to the development squad regardless of age (the likes of Harrison, Seager, Rowe, Gape, etc.) All this means our u18 team this year is very young (mostly first year scholars) and they are expected to struggle a bit. Back to this match - Gape is injured and Targett is on international duty so we are missing a couple of players but I am sure it is the same as Liverpool. Should be a good match.
disconnect Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 Looking forward to this (on Sky+). Match last year was mainly dominated by Suso and a couple others on the fringes of the Liverpool first team. Also got to see Forren play football!! Wonder if any of the 'forgotten men' will play today - i.e. Barnard, Sharp, Lee, Forte etc. Barnard played the away match last season I think (and was mostly hopeless).

trousers Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 Southampton FC @SouthamptonFC Saints U21s (vs @LFC): Britt, Stephens, McCarthy, Turnbull, Young; Reed, Flannigan, Moore; Sinclair, Seager, Rowe. #saintsfcu21s #saintsfc
Wiggles31 Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 Pressing very high. Good to see the youngesters playing the same style as the first team.
Wiggles31 Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 Useless from Stephens. Shocking back pass. 1 nil Liverpool.
Wiggles31 Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 1-1 Rowe Anther awful back pass. Nice finish but couldn't miss really.
Wiggles31 Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 Rowe and Sinclair look very good. How old is Sinclair now? Would have thought he might be pushing towards the first team by now.
saintalan Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 Yep enjoyed that one. Nice of the Test to go RSP!
LeBenali Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 Very good finish by Sinclair - it's been an entertaining opening 25mins!
trousers Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 1-3 Rowe Another excellent goal Rowe looking class
Colinjb Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 1-3 Loving this, great volley from Rowe after a parried shot by the keeper. We look so good going forward.
The9 Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 (edited) Thought Britt's positioning was suspect for their first goal too, went back too far and lost his bearings - Stephens at fault though. I'm on delay, we're 13 mins in and still getting tonked at the moment Ah, there it is. 1-1. Edited 12 August, 2013 by The9
Wiggles31 Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 Amazing finish! Very impressed so far. 1-3 Rowe.
Saint_clark Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 WTF are these commentators on. "Don't forget, 6 or 7 of these Liverpool players were in the youth cup last season whereas Southampton have a much more experienced side"...erm, utter bullsh*t. Not one player over 20 as far as I can see? "Southampton are a side that have brought players through to the first team in recent years, Luke Shaw...erm...Theo Walcott" "Yeah, Rickie Lambert too" WHAT????

Never!!
Olallana Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 So we´re learning to gift the opponents in the early years....
Bensfcno1 Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 awful defending from both teams.....like watching our first team at time!
Saint_clark Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 "You'd like to be out there wouldn't you! Haha!" Bit harsh, considering he was forced to retire early because of a knee injury...
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 12 August, 2013 Author Posted 12 August, 2013 Stephens and Turnball spend 3 weeks with the senior central defenders, and then come back and play like this. Coincidence?
Bewildered Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 What happened to Stephens? Doesn't seem to have progressed much at all.
Olallana Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 Poor poor defending but easy to the eye going forward, heard that anywhere else...?? Would love to see Rowe against Barnsley in the league cup just to see him at that level if he´s up to it or not....

The9 Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 Stephens and Turnball spend 3 weeks with the senior central defenders, and then come back and play like this. Coincidence? I actually thought Turnbull was having a very good game - knocking it about well, looking composed, one good run forward. Not sure the pen was a foul, never mind in the box, and the one where the ball came over the top Turnbull was pushed by both Liverpool's number 7 and then number 9 as he was about to clear, and the keeper should never have come that far and not got something. Thought Stephens has looked a bit... scared though.
The9 Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 Thanks to the wonders of time-shift technology I'm now back live, and we've already had one hit our post and keeper made a good save all of 30 seconds into the second half.
The9 Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 Weird hip-flexor/thigh type injury for Sinclair having fallen over hard onto it, that.
Gingeletiss Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 Caused by embarrassment methinks! (in answer to the9)
Bensfcno1 Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 Would be nice to have Rowe and/or Sinclair given an opportunity of the bench. They would give us a very good pacey outlet when under the cosh holding onto a lead.
Barry Sanchez Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 One can only hope technique improves for some later in their careers, too compact and rushed.
Colinjb Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 Should have been five. Come on lads, wrap this up.
studentsaint Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 Rowe looks ready for a crack and Sinclair possibly too. Use them in the league cup I agree. Turnbull seems head and shoulders above Stephens who looks a liability.
Barry Sanchez Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 Should have been five. Come on lads, wrap this up. Sinclair looks good but needs to distribute it far better, rocket up the arse.
The9 Posted 12 August, 2013 Posted 12 August, 2013 You can see what football without experienced, composed heads look like though. Loads of enthusiasm, some poor decision-making and a fair bit of loss of concentration, all a bit TOO fluid and busy.
