Saint_Jonny Posted 11 August, 2013 Share Posted 11 August, 2013 Morning chaps, I start a new job tomorrow, I'm having to face to idea of getting the bus to work, horrifying thought, because of the ludicrous parking charges in town. Anyone know a cheaper alternative parking spot in the London road area? Don't mind walking a bit if I have too. At the moment my options are £4 on the bus, £6 on the train (from sholing!) Or £8 to park the car for the day, which would add up to stupid money over the month. Having driven to work for as long as I can remember, I really, really don't want to get the bus. SNSUN Posted 11 August, 2013 Share Posted 11 August, 2013 Sometimes people rent out parking spaces in cities for less than other parking would be. Found this for you: http://www.yourparkingspace.co.uk/parking-in-london-road-southampton/SO152PX-48677 £5 to park there, not sure if that helps. Joensuu Posted 11 August, 2013 Share Posted 11 August, 2013 Consider buying a train season ticket? £15 per week sounds a lot more palatable than £6 per day. Sholing (SHO) to Southampton Central (SOU) Available Standard Class Adult Season Tickets (Travel is allowed via any permitted route.) Saint137 Posted 11 August, 2013 Share Posted 11 August, 2013 Marlands or Portland Terrace can be as low as £3.60 a day on a season ticket, details on council website which seems to be down at the moment. That also gives you parking at weekends so quite a bargain if come in to town a lot. Cheapest without Samson ticket is West Quay multistorey (the one next to Ikea) or Leisure World, both a fiver a day
Saint_Jonny Posted 11 August, 2013 Author Share Posted 11 August, 2013 Cheers for the replies guys, some handy info there :-) I'll bus it in this week and look into it as the week goes on. The parking season ticket sounds a good idea.
Golden Balls Posted 11 August, 2013 Share Posted 11 August, 2013 There's free parking in Shirley on most roads just off hill lane. I live near The Winston pub and its all free around here. You'll just need a swift walk down Archers road. Probably a shorter walker than station-London road.

JN9 Posted 14 August, 2013 Share Posted 14 August, 2013 I used to park on Millbrook Road just past the train station. Had to get there about 8ish to get a space, this was 6-7 years ago though...

I commute via train from there to Eastleigh and my return costs £4.20, and my ticket also allows me to exit at Southampton Central should I ever want to make a detour! Not that this information should ever be used to shave a couple of quid off that £6 ticket of course...
