Mr X Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 fecking hell saints talk about throwing it away!
Arizona Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 Meh. Not the end of the world, especially with Watford, Charlton and Barnsley losing. Cov and Notts For drawing is also the best result we could have hoped for. Not going to do SMS crowds much good if we can't beat anyone at home.
mprobert Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 They got to the last 10 mins and suddenly realised they were at home
brightspark Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 I cant believe that. A win would have been so helpful. And still we go on without home wins. That isnt going to pull in any more fans. So frustrating but we have to get over it and/or take it out on Palace on Monday.
LGTL Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 We play so much better away from home so isn't surprising. The whole experience of Saints at home is awful, not surprising the crowds are so bad. Bring on Palace monday.
Barney Trubble Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 The torture never ends does it with Saints. Just when you think the game is almost safe, we do this......i've lost count of the times it's happened. Oh well, another game and another debate about what could and should have been by the sounds of it.
gaz Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 A single point is better than nothing, but we should have had all three. COYR!
Leicestersaint Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 Very very very disappointing. We have to make periods of dominance count by scoring goals. Do these guys practise shooting?
TopGun Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 That's a real sickener. I have hopes for Paterson as a goal scorer but it may be too early for him. We need more consistent finishing so badly.
Thedelldays Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 we are ****e...dont look any further than the worst ever home record so far for the reason that people stay away...
St Landrew Posted 6 December, 2008 Author Posted 6 December, 2008 Saints take foot off the throttle surprise shocker.
Micky Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 If I'm honest, two points lost I think, but I guess a draw is better than nothing.... Why is our home form so abysmal....????
eelpie Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 Lowe HAS to address our weaknesses in attack in January. But well done Bradley. Without you we would have lost!
VectisSaint Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 Worst EVER start to a season at home, repeat worst EVER in over 80 seasons. OK, thats 4 games unbeaten, 6 pts from 12, but how can we hope to survive, at least financially, if we cannot pick up wins at home against what sounded like an appalling Sheff Wed team with one of the worst away records in the League. It really is time that Lowe realised that Jan Nice but Dim Poortvliet is out of his depth, and either needs some serious help, or needs to be replaced. Luckily there are some other poor teams around us at the moment that mean we are keeping our heads above the dotted line.

He looked well out of his depth at Reading did he? Or in the first half... Grow up. The bloke is managing on a bloody shoe-string with reserves and academy players.

eelpie Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 we are ****e...dont look any further than the worst ever home record so far for the reason that people stay away... Over the top. Were you there? If not, you need to see them before over-reacting. If you were there, fair comment perhaps, but I await others appraisals. Saints general team work is good and improving imo when I have watched them. Our attack is simply weak. Not sh**te. But Lowe has to address this. On his head... Meanwhile .. Bu**er!
Legod Third Coming Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 so is owen coyle...would you have wanted him in the summer? so is half of the managers in this league... thought not... I want a manager who is given a chance and resources. Do you think Jan asked to loan out three strikers who scored 80 goals between them in two seasons??
Thedelldays Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 I want a manager who is given a chance and resources. Do you think Jan asked to loan out three strikers who scored 80 goals between them in two seasons?? do you think sturrock was asked if he had to sell most of his team replace them with players like noone who was an electrician a year ago... plymouth also lost their 1st choice keeper etc etc etc
Lunatic Fridge Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 Come and see the new all young Lowe Disunited we are told. So whats new - cant score more than one at home and the opposition scores at the death. Not much cahnge there then. Think I will keep my money firmly in my pocket. Clueless Chairman, Management, Coaching staff and I am sorry to say it but clueless and unmotivated players. Garbage all round.

Seriously... And Plymouth started this season in the same shape financially we did, did they?? Poortvliet is doing a reasonable job with the resources he has. Of course, we could change him now and see how we go for the rest of the season...

ExSt Peter Saint Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 Utterly predictable. I knew at half time we'd be hanging on for a lot of the second rather than playing 2 halves well. Foot off pedal = no win again. Could even have lost it in last 10 according to commentators.

Things are better with JP this season than you make out. i wouldnt be surprised if we have had more shots this season than we did in the whole of last season. and we are starting to get more on target now too. the signs are there that things are improving but unfortunatly we only have so long in the season to improve enough. Gutted about the result but again the team showed enough about them to suggest they are not far away from pushing up the table a bit.

What is it down to then? When we have the best away record in the league bar Wolves?? His poor management?? That somehow only manifests itself in Hampshire?? How strange... I wasn't there today, annoyingly, so listened to Sheffield radio. Sounded to me like we bossed the game and failed to score. Which is down to having no strikers I reckon - although impossible to say since I didn't see it.

The oppostition have ALL sussed us out at home, they let us have poession in areas that do not hurt them and then step up the pace in the second half. For all our shots" as you put it" their keeper, as with most visiting keepers, was not occupied enough to be man of the match. Only plus i can see these days is that getting from and back to Locks Heath is getting easier every other week
yorkie Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 Strange to sit all afternoon waitning for the 2nd goal...knowing the longer it went on the more likely Owls would score. Disappointed but not surprised! Results went our way again...try to see some positives but all I can say is at least we have a team of triers!
Legod Third Coming Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 the fact that we have done well away does not help jans case IMO...it shows yet again, he has no idea how to sort this problem....if you cant win your home games you are in big trouble lol - yep it shows we have no idea... We can easily turn it around at home, given that we can win away. We need someone who can finish and we can't afford to keep them here. If a few more people turned up occasionally we might be able to bring Stern John back, that would help.

Shows how much you know about football I guess. the season is not over....they are crap...hell most of the teams in this league are crap.. my plymouth supporting mates would love to able to bring in players like scheiderlin, have lallana and surman...to be able to even have an academy... they rely on one time electricians...and players like the legendary folly... the fact that we are below them does not make them good what so ever...
VectisSaint Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 Don't be such a drama queen. He looked well out of his depth at Reading did he? Or in the first half... Grow up. The bloke is managing on a bloody shoe-string with reserves and academy players. Don't be so damn patronising you ****. Continue to hold on to the fact that 3 games ago we had a single good performance AWAY FROM HOME. If you care to read my post you will see that I am referring to our home record, where we cannot win against apparently appalling opposition. Is it beyond your simple wit to see we have won 1 home gaime in 11 so far, and our afwfully nice but inexperienced manager has no idea how to resolve that issue? It is you who needs to grow up, and see the **** position we are in and stop believing the spin that we are only in this position because of the young, inexperienced players and the shoestring budget. FFS we are in this position because we have a hopelessly inexperienced manager trying to manage a team of inexperienced youngsters on a shoestring budget. We have the wherewithall to put at least one of those constituent parts right, but because we have an idiot in charge of the club who cannot accept that he makes mistakes we continue down this path that will lead us to administration and/or relegation.
St Marco Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 Basically the word that sums it up for me is "Bottled". They well and truely bottled it. When the time came for them to stand up and be counted they turned into mice and hid. The first 15 minutes were dreadful and i thought we were in for one of those crap 0-0's that we had seen in our previous 2 games. But then out of nowhere BWP scored a stunning goal (again) and he deserves so much praise for it, because the BWP of a few months ago or last year would of skyed it or been offside, so fair play to BWP he has in my book turned my opinion of him. I will forgive his offside near the end! The idiots in the rows behind us who shouted at BWP for that are a disgrace. After the goal we dominated probably more then i have seen for the past 20 games, we were playing some really nice football and looked like we could go on to win 3-0 or something. Weds did not even turn up. Second half it was the total opposite. We came out not having a clue and looked like a different team. That 45 mins is possibly the worst i have seen us play a half this year (i wasen't at Preston game). We just retreated further and further into our own half and if it wasen't for Davis AGAIN we would of lost at least 1-4. We were slaughtered and how Tudgay missed that 1 on 1 before he scored i will never know, thank god he did! In the first half we deserved to win and in the second half they did so a draw in my book was a fair result. But all this talk of progress and playing great football is complete and utter bull****. We have won 1 game in the last 6 games and have not played well since we played Reading 4 games ago. While a point is better then a loss it does not help us as we have lost ground on Doncaster and Forest and remain 4 points from the relegation zone with 2 difficult away games up next. One win from 11 home games is pitiful. The home game against Forest could prove to be pivitol to our future. If we fail to win any of the next 3 games especially the Forest game then Jan will have to resign. Time to stop talking the talk and start walking the walk.
Micky Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 (edited) the fact that we have done well away does not help jans case IMO...it shows yet again, he has no idea how to sort this problem....if you cant win your home games you are in big trouble Whilst I would normally agree with that, our away form would indicate that we do have the balls to see games through. If our home form even mirrored our away form we would be 7 points better off right now - that would put us comfortably mid table. You have to win at home and pick up away wins to survive in this league - we have done ok away, and personally I think that fixing our home form is probably easier than trying to fix the away form. Ah, ok, so now blaming the supporters for not turning up. You sound like Lowe, blame everyone you can other than the ones that matter. Supporters don't turn up at home because we are bereft of ideas how to win AT HOME, yet go in huge numbers to away games (which of course gives no benefit to the Club except in vocal backing). A chairman with vision, instead of the clueless prat we are currently stuck with, would recognise that it is worth taking a bit more of a hit on the wages by having 1 decent striker like John playing and possibly winning more games, and having a few less duds on the books such as Pulis and some of the loanees such as Peckhart. That way the crowds would increase and go at least some way to pay for the striker that we need. The longer we persist with McG who is a good prospect but will not deliver sufficient goals over a season yet to sustain us the sooner we will find ourselves below the dotted line. Still I live in hope, maybe even expectation, that we will get something from the Palace game on Monday.
AwaySaint1 Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 Whats that now 6 wins in the last 6 for Eastleigh?
St Marco Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 Ridiculous Post why should JP resign? Because that would be almost half our home games gone and just 1 win. You will not stay up if you keep that ratio up. We can't do what we did last year and adopt your "there is always next week" attitude as we will just run out of games. As i said if it wasen't for Davis AGAIN we would of been murdered. He is employed to get results and that is not what he is getting.
St Landrew Posted 6 December, 2008 Author Posted 6 December, 2008 Well I can see what the problem is, and it's simple. Saints play european style football, which involves playing much more through the middle with short, quick passing. That means things can get very tight, especially at Home, where the teams are going to pack players behind the ball. When you have 10 or 11 opposition players behind the ball it gets very tight indeed. Occasionally you're going to get through and score, but if you don't vary the play you become predictable, albeit pretty to watch. During Away games, the opposition come out of their shell much more and attack, creating gaps in their defence. Which is why our game is paying off much better there. Now, I've no doubt Jan Poortvliet sees this, and his staff see this. And I've little doubt that they are telling the youngsters to vary the play. But footballers aren't the quickest of humans upstairs, even if they are quick in the legs and feet. This is going to take time. And for those who want to pay for JP's ferry journey home to Holland, I think you need to think again, because this is it, like it or lump it. People will know I'm no fully paid up member of the setup at Saints, but I am acutely aware that we're stuck with it.

It is a fact we had to off-load John because of his wages. And Rasiak. I'm not making this stuff up you know. We are where we are. If you think changing manager now will make the blindest difference to who plays up front... We need to score more goals. The blokes who scored 80 between then are not here. We cannot afford them. We get 15k fans at home. Another 15k would add £300,000 to our income at £20 a head. All of this is common sense. £600k more income a month is the difference between watching Patterson and Robertson and Rasiak and John. That's our problem. I didn't blame anyone but I would think it's pretty obviuous maths.

Weston Saint Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 Disappointed with the result as I thought we controlled the game and were the better side throughout. Just failed to get that second goal. In goal Davis had another good game but in the main untroubled. One sticky moment in the first half when I thought the ball was going in the net off his fumble but he recovered. Great late save when the SW player was clearly offside but missed by the linesman. Full backs had a decent game, Skacel providing balance between defending and getting forward. One great first half free kick that McGoldrick should have scored but headed over. James had a vastly improved game, gave himself more time on the ball and passed well. Central defenders look the best pairing and must stay together for more games. Perry's experience was invaluable and Pearce looks strong and reads the game well. One moment when the striker turned Perry and Pearce came across to put in a great tackle and save what looked a certain goal. Central midfield with Surman and Cork looked a good pairing and understanding. Thought Surman had a great game and controlled the midfield complimented by Cork who, apart from a couple of poor passes, did the job well On the wide Wright Phillips had a superb game, scoring one and looked the only player throughout the match who had the ability to put it in the net. Lallana, for all his silky play came in too much narrowing the choice of play. Up front Robertson put himself about and looked ok but no cutting edge. McGoldrick had a poor game for me. Paterson looks ok as well. Give him 20 -30 minutes for the next few games so that he can develop before being thrown in at the deep end. A positive note to end. We looked more like a team that can compete in the Championship. No longer did it look like men against boys. This team is developing and if they are kept together I can see us climbing the table into the safety zone in the New Year. 7 out of 10 for the team. Men of the match Wright Phillips, Surman and Pearce in my book
St Landrew Posted 6 December, 2008 Author Posted 6 December, 2008 Regardless, we still miss too many shots and that's simple finishing from wherever you start on the pitch. Yes, I agree.
