Saint-scooby Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Made my good day even better ....Smiley face....
dronskisaint Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Pleased that hes got the recognition we all know he deserves, but we also all know its a PR stunt to deflect negative attention away from Woy and the FA. Woy went on record and said Rickie is the wrong type of player for the system he wants to play. Also he wouldnt be there if Andy Carroll was fit. I doubt he'll get on the pitch. Is there anything that brings joy in to your life? He has more ability than Carroll will ever have and he's there because this ability has been recognised!
S-Clarke Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Is there anything that brings joy in to your life? He has more ability than Carroll will ever have and he's there because this ability has been recognised! I think you're misreading Alpine here. I don't think he's suggesting Andy Carroll is a better player, just that he'd be picked if he was fit - which is right. I think it's more of a dig at the Enlgish FA than Lambo himself. It's not a PR stunt though...
trousers Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 We got to post #145 before the first overtly cynical viewpoint. Gotta be a SWF record in recent times, surely?
alpine_saint Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Is there anything that brings joy in to your life? He has more ability than Carroll will ever have and he's there because this ability has been recognised! I am pleased for him, and the club. I agree with your assessment of their abilities, but its not you or I that pick the England squad. He's there because Woy has a very small pond in which to fish for strikers at the moment.
BotleySaint Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 And I was just saying the other day how he will never get picked... Great news!
trousers Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/lambert-for-england-978678.aspx
The9 Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Usually your points are worth reading, but when Lambert is involved you turn into a right arse dont you? not even a congratulations from you either, just strange. You missed the post where I congratulated him then ?
Saint-Reece Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 You missed the post where I congratulated him then ? Yep! Evidently I did, apologies
The9 Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 'The9"'s views and reaction to Lambert is seriously weird for a Saints fan. Once saw him post that he was "ambivalent" towards him I am ambivalent to all Saints players in the grand scheme of things, they're all dispensable and transient. I liked what he did in the Championship and League One. I no longer comment on his current Saints career because you just get lazy stuff like your comment, where people are unable to separate opinions about the person, the player, the international and the best way for Saints to progress, and just resort to having a pop at the poster. However, I can say "he'll have to have a hell of a match against Scotland to get picked for a competitive squad", and that's not a criticism of him.
The9 Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Yep! Evidently I did, apologies Yep, post #17. By the next one I'd started having a pop at Hodgson.
trousers Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Gary Lineker @GaryLineker Congratulations to Rickie Lambert on both his England call up and the birth of his daughter. A decent day if ever there was one.
Lighthouse Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Pompey fans aren't impressed Well they wouldn't be. Andy Bachlem overlooked yet again...
The9 Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Is there anything that brings joy in to your life? He has more ability than Carroll will ever have and he's there because this ability has been recognised! To be fair, Hodgson explicitly stated that Sturridge and Carroll would have been chosen ahead of him had they been fit, he wasn't exactly handing out platitudes other than "he worked hard to get to where he is" and you can tell by the phrases he uses that he regards him as a limited player and his perception is coloured by having first encountered him as a Bristol Rovers player knocking Fulham out of the FA Cup in 2008 (without actually scoring). He also basically said he'd considered signing him in 2008 but he didn't think he'd be up to the Prem. And that Saints won the Championship, and that Lambert signed for a Championship side, and also seemed to think that he'd ever played in a league called the Premiership.
SaintBobby Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Is he the oldest uncapped player to have been called up by England?
positivepete Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Gary Lineker @GaryLineker Congratulations to Rickie Lambert on both his England call up and the birth of his daughter. A decent day if ever there was one. I second that!
Appy Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Let's hope he doesn't get the Beattie treatment and actually gets passed to.
fanimal Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Got my red 100 Goal machine T shirt on - before it came out I had my Saints/England white one on, must have had an inkling!!?
Golden Balls Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Genuinely proud for him which is an odd emotion to have for a man I don't know personally. Would love him to get a goal.
eelpie Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Even if he doesnt get on the pitch it will give him a extra lift for the start of the season, knowing if he works hard the door is not shut for a International call up This
Lighthouse Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Let's hope he doesn't get the Beattie treatment and actually gets passed to. So long as he doesn't agree to any behind the scenes documentaries and start telling Sky about other players drugs ban, he should be alright.
Under Weststand Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Great news so pleased for Rickie fabulous day for him. He has come so far in four short years. just hope he gets a proper chance to show what he can do.
gr00031 Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Has anyone seen Roy's interview on SSN? Just proves he doesn't know anything. Thought that Lambert signed for us when we were in the Championship, and then said that we won it! Clueless. Glad he's finally been selected though. Hope he gets some minutes
Miltonaggro Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Well done big man, overdue and well deserved. I for one don't think Lambert will be a flash in the pan for England, if he turns it on he will make a lot of people sit up and take notice - Woy and most of the press corps think he has called up a version of Steve Bull, what he's actually called up is a contemporary version of Teddy Sheringham - who won his last cap at 36...
red&white56 Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Great news, cheered me up no end! Congratulations to SRL!
Cascadia Saint Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Gary Lineker @GaryLineker Congratulations to Rickie Lambert on both his England call up and the birth of his daughter. A decent day if ever there was one. Great news and well deserved. And congrats on the birth of his daughter today too.
tpbury Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 As Miltonaggro said, he is much more Sheringham than Carroll but has hard nut attributes as well .Well done Rickie!
trousers Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Saints News & Talk @SaintsFCFans Anyone else just see Nigel Adkins nearly cry on sky sports news talking about Lambert? #LambertForEngland Nigel Adkins: "I'm absolutely ecstatic for him. Rickie just shows that if you persevere and work hard, you get the opportunity."
studentsaint Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 I think the quotes from Hodgsen are disrespectful to Lambert, and the fact that he chose 2 crocked players proves the lack of options. He says he worked hard for this, fair enough, but where was the need to state that he only got this call up because of injuries and that he would have called the likes of Carroll and sturridge up ahead of him? Never heard that after the squad has been announced.
david in sweden Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 there are those times when a sense of genuine joy and satisfaction surpasses even the euphoria of hearing such an announcement. I'm really pleased for Rickie's sake, (and the birth of his daughter makes it a double celebration). Part of me says, wouldn't it be just great - if he scored against the "Old Enemy" and really stood all those media hacks on their heads.... the worse case scenario..... might be that he gets one game and then no-more.....but by then the credit will be justified and he can celebrate a career that has gone from non-League football to become the England centre forward, surely every ENGLISH footballer's dream! (-that's if you don't count opening the batting for England at Lord's but then again that's another sportman's dream.)
Right sider Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Sat in the south of france, proud as punch for the lad. When is the match? Will have to sky + it as probably won't get to see it out here on holiday.
Colinjb Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Truly wonderful news. Just hope he is given a good crack at playing and returns uninjured.
niceandfriendly Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 This thread needs more porn.. (also worth noting that Cortese clearly can get kits right! What a beaut that striped one is!)
david in sweden Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Is he the oldest uncapped player to have been called up by England? Don't have a record book to hand .....BUT I seem to recall that Leslie Compton, a central defender - and brother of the footballing-England cricketer Denis - won his first England cap at the age of 37 (?) in a post WW2 international ...???????? However, in this day and age, it says something for a man over 30 to even get a look-in an English squad for the first time.

Huffton Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Awesome stuff, so pleased for Sir Rickie! Just bought 3 tickets for wednesday night on the back of this news, just hope he gets on now!
captainchris Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Fair play to Mr Hodgson for selecting Rickie with the sole purpose to unite the Saints Web Forum... Great news a far better player than Wellbeck anyway....
saints_is_the_south Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 This thread needs more porn.. (also worth noting that Cortese clearly can get kits right! What a beaut that striped one is!) Stop it, this moment is emotional enough as it is. No, forget that, carry on!
david in sweden Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Has anyone told Damiao this news yet? This could swing it. if Damiao's reported " attitude " about Saints being " not ambitious enough " ...is actually true ?..then he can go hang himself for my money.
Batman Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 What a legend. He really is a Saints legend and fully deserved not bad for someone who would not cut it in the NPC or get less games/goals that sharp in the prem sir rickie
SW11_Saint Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Well done Rickie, no one deserves it more. Now go and make a name for yourself on the world stage...
niceandfriendly Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 if Damiao's reported " attitude " about Saints being " not ambitious enough " ...is actually true ?..then he can go hang himself for my money. Strangest use of your bolding fetish to date...
Saint_Pedro Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/reading/news/adkins-ecstatic-for-lambert_97515.html Paul Lambert .... !!! woefully brilliant reporting ........
trousers Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 @SouthamptonFC: Watch Rickie Lambert speak about his England call-up exclusively on Saints Player: http://t.co/WK7XSmN7A2 #lambertforengland #saintsfc
Smirking_Saint Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 I think the quotes from Hodgsen are disrespectful to Lambert, and the fact that he chose 2 crocked players proves the lack of options. He says he worked hard for this, fair enough, but where was the need to state that he only got this call up because of injuries and that he would have called the likes of Carroll and sturridge up ahead of him? Never heard that after the squad has been announced. He is defending his position thats all really, outside the Saints fishbowl it probably seems a strange one
100%Red&White Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 This thread needs more porn.. (also worth noting that Cortese clearly can get kits right! What a beaut that striped one is!) Yeah, there's some cracking photos there that catch the man in full flow, doing what he does best, so out of all to choose from Sky plumped for this one couldn't have been a bitter little sk:mcinnes:te could it?
