Good luck to the lad on the night and hopefully a brace of goals for our Rikeeeee:D COYS Pleased to hear the family have the new baby girl:) Edited 8 August, 2013 by ottery st mary
Jimmy_D Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 IF he plays I might have to get an england shirt with his name and whatever number he wears on it, just to mark this unexpected, magical occasion Perfect answer for all those looking for an alternative our home kit!
Elias Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 I wish someone had brought this to our attetion earlier.
Cabrone Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Overdue, he's the best English CF around at the moment IMO. England look seriously threadbare though. Some of those selections are real head scratchers.
The9 Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Smirking saint will be happy! I'm pretty sure he will be as this doesn't have anything to do with his role at Saints - he's probably more suited to England's preferred set up, and he'll probably also make the point that Hodgson has run out of other options - Hodgson himself said Carroll and Sturridge are ahead of Lambert even when trying to praise him. Nick Collins on SSN "Wonderful story, 31 years old, triumphant season with Southampton last year", blah blah, reinterpreted Hodgson's interview above as "chose him because every time he's gone up a level he's coped".
doubleonothing Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 How long until one of the lesser national papers runs with the fact he could be playing for New Zealand...... http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/lambert-hopes-for-new-zealand-call-744927.aspx
SNSUN Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Great news for Rickie - hope they persevere with him and he's not a 20 minute flop. His game is much more than goalscoring.
angelman Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Interesting make up of the squad - out-players only..... Arsenal x3 Chelsea x2 Everton x2 Liverpool x2 Man City x1 Man Utd x8 Saints x1 Spurs x2
Lets B Avenue Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Who has he come in for. Trott, or one of the bowlers?
hutch Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Hold on a minute. Haven't we already agreed that these International friendlies next week are a bad thing?
BlakeySFC Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Pleased as punch for Rickie. Thoroughly deserved call-up and long overdue!
Jimmy_D Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 As a side note, Shaw has been called up to the England U21s as well.
The9 Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Hold on a minute. Haven't we already agreed that these International friendlies next week are a bad thing? Yup, most of them involve travelling and having to try though. This is Scotland at Wembley.
Secret Site Agent Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 About bloody time too. I hope we win 3-0 with Rickie scoring 2 and 1 assist. And showing up Rooney into the bargain, so that the papers are come up with stupid excuses for this paradox. Good on ya, Rickster, show then waht you can do.
thefuriousb Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Nice kit, who was he playing for there ? Yawn
The9 Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Yawn When did he play for them ? Thought he'd only played for English clubs ?
Smirking_Saint Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Smirking saint will be happy! You cheeky chappy !! No I am genuinely happy for the guy, I did say in the latest round of threads on the subject if he was ever to get a call up it would be now. You know my thoughts on his inclusion etc so Im not going to comment, plus in this instance there was nobody else. Dissapointed Cork didnt get the nod mind. But anyway, V well done Rickie
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 So pleased for him. I think those of us who've watched him score week in, week out since that first season in League 1 are feeling a sense of pride right now.
Hatch Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Has anyone told Damiao this news yet? This could swing it.
rooney Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Cannot think of a more deserving call up. Congratulations and well done to Rickie. He should start!
trousers Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 @jordansibley: His England call up isn't the only bit of good news Rickie has had today, his partner gave birth to daughter Bella Rose @ 4.30 this morning!
scotty Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Cannot think of a more deserving call up. Congratulations and well done to Rickie. He should start! This. And its about time.
buctootim Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 (edited) @jordansibley: His England call up isn't the only bit of good news Rickie has had today, his partner gave birth to daughter Bella Rose @ 4.30 this morning! Completes the fairy story so richly deserved. Unfortunate choice of name. I always think people named Bella are going to be fatties. Probably Bella Emberg's doing. Edited 8 August, 2013 by buctootim
Smirking_Saint Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 What number will he where? On his back probably
Viking Warrior Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 brilliant news for Sir Rickie I hope it is for the right reason hes been selected , Hodgson , you need to give him a long stint in the team Just seen the team list Hart hasnt scored any goals and neither has cole after 103 caps
Saint_clark Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Anyone know how to get tickets without having bought them before?
dubai_phil Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Wow, just wow. This has actually brought a tear to my eye, something I never thought would happen. Congratulations on both great bits of news to Rickie. Think this could mean an early trip down the pub for the Dubai Saints Massive on Wednesday!
Pastor Patrón Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Absolutely delighted for him, and it'll be a huge motivator for him this season knowing he can go to the World Cup if he keeps scoring.
speed demon Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Couldn't have happened to a nicer bloke. There are so many wnkrs playing pl football that it makes a refreshing change for an all round good guy to gain the success he deserves. He never gave up when he was knocked back, kept improving, got his head down to be the best he could and I am chuffed to bits for him. Well done Rickie you deserve it.
jasonb Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 and his misses gave birth this morning... a day he'll never forget I reckon! Well deserved Rickie!! Saints legend!
Sour Mash Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Usually your points are worth reading, but when Lambert is involved you turn into a right arse dont you? not even a congratulations from you either, just strange. 'The9"'s views and reaction to Lambert is seriously weird for a Saints fan. Once saw him post that he was "ambivalent" towards him
Saint Martini Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Really glad for Lambert even though I believe its only a one-time thing. I just hope that he gets a decent amount of playing time.
Greenridge Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Fantastic to see the recognition for Rickie (and SFC). All he has to do now is notch a couple!
Scoobysaint Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Fantastic news. How he has been overlooked for so long is absurd. Top player, great role model, all round lovely chap. Hope he fills his boots against the sweaty socks.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Absolutely delighted for the guy. Seems like an absolutely top bloke, bona fide saints legend.
Marino Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 I think he will start. Wot does Woy not know about the same ol same ol Rooney, Welbeck and Defoe.
alpine_saint Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Pleased that hes got the recognition we all know he deserves, but we also all know its a PR stunt to deflect negative attention away from Woy and the FA. Woy went on record and said Rickie is the wrong type of player for the system he wants to play. Also he wouldnt be there if Andy Carroll was fit. I doubt he'll get on the pitch.

It's not a "PR stunt" for f**ks sake.

Picking a player half the country has never heard of is a effing sh ite publicity stunt. Good job it isn't one, isn't it?
Saint Garrett Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Absolutely delighted for him. A great guy, a top player, and if anyone deserves it it's him. Might get myself a ticket for the game.
alpine_saint Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Wow, just wow. This has actually brought a tear to my eye, something I never thought would happen. Man up, you tart.
dronskisaint Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Made up for him, absolutely made up!! He's not the future for England for the next ten years but what a recognition of his ability and his contribution to a team!! Arise Sir Ricky Lambert of Southampton (and England)
alpine_saint Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Picking a player half the country has never heard of is a effing sh ite publicity stunt. Good job it isn't one, isn't it? Codswallop. Almost every tabloid reporting on Woys striker dilemma over the past week has sneered at his persistent overlooking of Rickie. And top-scoring Englishman in the PL last season tends to make people wake up to who you are. For all those claiming its not a PR stunt, Rickie could score a hat-trick against the sweaties and he will still be dropped as soon as the likes of Carroll are fit.
