stevegrant Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Despite all the striker injuries, it's fair to say that's a bit of news I was not expecting to hear!
S-Clarke Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Southampton FC @SouthamptonFC2m We are delighted to announce that Rickie Lambert has been named in the England squad for next Wednesday's game against Scotland. #saintsfc Expand
Turkish Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Wow! As a Saints fan i'm not to happy about him playing for England 3 days before the season starts but as a Lambert fan fair play to the lad, it's a bit Roy of the Rovers for him and nice to see there is still a bit of romance in football.
Unbelievable Jeff Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Fapping great news! About time Rickie!!
Jimmy_D Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Doubt he'll break through and stay in once the injuries clear, but he DESERVES this recognition Well Done!
The9 Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Despite all the striker injuries, it's fair to say that's a bit of news I was not expecting to hear! Let's put it this way, I turned off SSN after the League Cup draw. Congratulations to him, it only took injuries to the entire England attack, him completely losing form, Grant Holt signing for a Championship side and a friendly against a footballing third world nation for him to get the call.
sotonjoe Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 great news but i guess it's highly likely he'll be as invovled as Lallana was before.
SuperSAINT Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Very pleased. (And very proud). I'm sure I saw Roy interviewed talking about Grant Holt & Rickie, saying that they aren't of the desired quality. Anyone else remember that? - I think it was from when Rickie & Holt were on Goals on Sunday.
Gemmel Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Completely chuffed for him - Congratulations Rickie
Lighthouse Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Brilliant, well deserved. Great to see a hard working and honest professional getting the recognition he deserves. Well done Rickie. I hope he gets onto the pitch at some point.
Bewildered Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 #ENG squad: Foster Hart Ruddy; Baines Cahill Cole Jagielka Johnson Jones Smalling Walker; Carrick Cleverley Gerrard Lampard Milner Oxlade-Chamberlain Walcott Wilshere Young Zaha; Defoe Lambert Rooney Welbeck
B Rabbit Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 There's no official announcement yet (or at least i can't see it on BBC)... hope we haven't jumped the gun and upset Woy and the FA!
Killers Knee Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Well and truly deserved, proper chuffed for him. Hope he gets decent playing time and shines. Gives me a reason to watch England, which is also nice!
Katalinic Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 First time I've wanted to watch an international friendly for years - well done SRL.
Pilsmer Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Congratulations Rickie! A last minute, 25 yard free kick winner please!
WealdSaint Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 (edited) I'm so pleased for Rickie, the ultimate "never give up" story. How many of us would have thought of this when we signed him 4 years ago. Edited 8 August, 2013 by WealdSaint he signed 2009
niceandfriendly Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Weird how we (well, I do anyway) sort of feel proud of Rickie. Yet, I've never known him or met him. Very well done to Mr. Lambert!
adrian lord Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Congratulations Fully deserved and about 8 months late!
Gemmel Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 There's no official announcement yet (or at least i can't see it on BBC)... hope we haven't jumped the gun and upset Woy and the FA! We certainly broke the news first, I think the Club were a minute early.....I'm sure the FA wont mind.
stevegrant Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 great news but i guess it's highly likely he'll be as invovled as Lallana was before. Disagree, Lallana was called up as a late replacement due to a load of injuries and it was a competitive game so only 3 of the subs could actually get on the pitch. As this is a friendly, Hodgson will be able to use 6 (I think) from the bench, and despite being named in the squad I'd fully expect Rooney to drop out.
skintsaint Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Great News for him, really great story rising from the bottom league and now into the England squad at his age!
The9 Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 There's no official announcement yet (or at least i can't see it on BBC)... hope we haven't jumped the gun and upset Woy and the FA! Squad announcement was on SSN a while back.
Restark19 Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 IF he plays I might have to get an england shirt with his name and whatever number he wears on it, just to mark this unexpected, magical occasion
trousers Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Fair play to Mr Hodgson for selecting Rickie with the sole purpose to unite the Saints Web Forum...
qwertySFC Posted 8 August, 2013 Posted 8 August, 2013 Great news for SRL and well deserved , lets hope he takes advantage of the opportunity and shows some of the other over rated "strikers" we have how its done - Well done Rickie
