Viking Warrior Posted 6 August, 2013 Share Posted 6 August, 2013 Watched BBC scotland this morning, and the article on exam results I was wondering how come the media go to a school to film two random kids opening their exam results , and hey presto they have 5 A grades bu they never seem to have someone that has a grade 5 or 6 , Then I realised that these two kids were specially chosen as the school knew last wek who had got straight A grades. Is it not time to stop this annual ritual of going to a school filming to alleged random kids who always seem to get top grades in every subject. Is this not demeaning to other kids and their parents who will be getting much lower grades or even failing I dont want to spoil the success of thosethat have done well , but these tv reports are stage managed with the help of the school as they had the results last week
Bearsy Posted 6 August, 2013 Share Posted 6 August, 2013 I agree Viking, it would be much funnier if kid opened results & found they flunked every course and are destined to life frying chicken butts at KFC. I spose that the school, child & parents would be less inclined to have this event televised tho.
Special K Posted 6 August, 2013 Share Posted 6 August, 2013 I met a bird in the pub the other week who had good "O" levels and excellent "A" levels, like, if that helps.

Why? That's not the case in England-- they come in to English schools just the day before. English universities do get them a week in advance, but there are never any leaks. Viking Warrior Posted 6 August, 2013 Author Share Posted 6 August, 2013 Ken Tone I beleive they came in last frida . and students only got them today. I guess its down to the logistics of sending them out across scotland and having teachers prepared for supporting those kids that have not done so well. Socttish schools education / holidays starts earlier (At least a week if not two ) than their counterparts in Endland Ken. Scottish pupils start back on the 13 /14th August while English schools start back on 2nd September

Socttish schools education / holidays starts earlier (At least a week if not two ) than their counterparts in Endland Ken. Scottish pupils start back on the 13 /14th August while English schools start back on 2nd September But the results are all sent out electronically now, so there's no issue getting them sent out across Scotland. Just a historically different habit I suppose. Edited 6 August, 2013 by Ken Tone out of date info!
Viking Warrior Posted 6 August, 2013 Author Share Posted 6 August, 2013 Not quite true Ken about pupils getting them electronically . Not every pupil has an email address, In scotland the do use Text and emails , if the pupils signs up to that mode. But the traditional exam results are still sent in paper form > Its probably individual schools that have to put them into envelopes to go to the pupils, hence the reason they are recieved a few days earlier
