Shroppie Posted 6 August, 2013 Share Posted 6 August, 2013 Mrs Shroppie does the occasional game with me but is mostly content to leave me to it. Sometimes go with a mate and leave wives to shop (having of course put credit cards under lock and key). Her list of recent games is actually quite impressive including the Sheffield United last day survival and both promotion games. She doesn't really get it, but appreciated the atmosphere of those big games. Think it would have been different if I'd suggested Hartlepool away (which I didn't, and went alone). Took my daughters to Wembley, which was awesome: they tried very hard to drink me under the table and came close and loved every second.
ericofarabia Posted 6 August, 2013 Share Posted 6 August, 2013 I started courting (as we did back then) Mrs EoA about 2 days after the end of the season whilst working together in Bournemouth. She had absolutely no idea that I was mad on Saints ( although I assumed she did!!). She went a bit mental when August came and she discovered that any Saturdays we had off, I'd be up to Southampton to meet my mates for footy and beer. I tentatively asked if she fancied coming along, but luckily she has no interest in footy at all and declined - result!! She later told me that she swore that she'd never go out with anybody shorter than her or liked football!! Not sure if 3rd on her list was being strapped like a donkey, but I fail on that score as well, but do make up for it by being a toal ass most of the time. I didn't have a driving licence at the time, so when a few months later, I asked if she fancied going to Brighton, she only realised after saying Yes, that I meant "could she drive me to the match", when I asked if we could go via Eastleigh to pick up two of my mates!! Being a perfect gentleman I paid for the petrol and even paid for her ticket!! She barely watched the match but did quite enjoy watching all the posturing and the tension and aggression displayed by the opposing fans as I'd thoughtfully chosen to stand quite close to the dividing fence between us and the BHA fans!! She's never been to a match since, although has provided me with transport to many home and away games and gone shopping whilst I'm at the match!! Just celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary (wedding day was close season but a 3 o clock KO at the church!!)
Ulrich van Gobbel Posted 6 August, 2013 Share Posted 6 August, 2013 Taken my missus to two games including the famous 3-2 vs MK Dons when we were 2-0 at half time. Her record is P2 W2 so she is something of a lucky charm!
trousers Posted 6 August, 2013 Share Posted 6 August, 2013 You wouldn't catch Lady Trousers going to watch something as unsophisticated as football. She's into more intellectual sports such as cricket.
Wurzel Posted 6 August, 2013 Share Posted 6 August, 2013 Mine regularly comes to matches when I go nowadays. I spent most of her first home game praying nobody sat around us could overhear her comments such as " the other team have got pretty uniforms" and "do the ones running along the sidelines choose their own flags" But she enjoyed it. Within a few months we were amongst 1400 Saints fans at her first away game at Carrow Rd. 1399 Southampton necks were craning to our left to see our attack at the far end. She, on her own, was facing to the right, flicking Vs at the Norwich fans in the home end. To be fair not sure which was the more embarrassing. ant Posted 6 August, 2013 Share Posted 6 August, 2013 Pffft, a few of you clearly not happy with your lot. Although my girlfriend was initially slow to pick up my love of Saints, since the first League One season she's got into it more and more. I guess it was an accessible time to get into us ('real' football as the skates seem keen to repeat). Anyway, she follows every game now and (despite my daily scanning of Saints Web/Twitter) occasionally pops up with news before I've heard it. She's very switched on tactically and though I'm no bed wetter is slightly more pragmatic after poor results. She doesn't come to as many games as I'd like, but Boxing Day at Fulham last season was a decent day out. Say what you like about women and football, but it was class having her involved in the celebrations of both of Saints' recent promotions.

doubleonothing Posted 6 August, 2013 Share Posted 6 August, 2013 Took the current Mrs OOO to udders away and the Charlton game at SMS in the league 1 promotion season and She enjoyed it, but I've not taken her along since. Might take her to another game this season, but we'll see. If we draw Udders in the cup we'll go as her family are fans of them.
influx Posted 6 August, 2013 Share Posted 6 August, 2013 Its fantastic to read that alot of you have actually had or have Girlfriends. Amazing really! I have taken my missus to a few games but her first was Man U at home with Beattie scoring a last minute winner with a header. We both did our shins on the seats in front of us. Was great to share such an experience IMO!

Pilsmer Posted 6 August, 2013 Share Posted 6 August, 2013 My wife joins me and my friends regularly for trips down to St. Mary's and also a few away games when we're visiting my parents up north. She certainly enjoyed the City and Newcastle games last season more than the visits to Tranmere and Burnley she had to endure in previous seasons. dingbattigger Posted 6 August, 2013 Share Posted 6 August, 2013 Took the missus to a home game and an away game.........she was bored rigid. Now if we are going anywhere after a match she comes and sits in the car with a book to read rather than attend the match
tpbury Posted 6 August, 2013 Share Posted 6 August, 2013 An ex of mine invited me to her corporate Box at White Hart Lane once. Ian Walker was in goal as I recall. Was a good game, nice approach play, both teams flicking it around nicely. The players were working their socks off and getting really sweaty. In the end there was a long ball and BANG! in the back of the net it went! Can't remember the score, it was only Spurs vs West Ham I think, pretty boring game. landford.saint Posted 6 August, 2013 Share Posted 6 August, 2013 Took Mrs LS to a European game at the Dell on one of our first 'dates'. She was actually born in @@@@@@@@@muff but purely because that's where the nearest hospital was at the time. We got married in 1984, and she has been an ardent Saints supporter since our first days together back in 1980. We have both yet again renewed our season tickets in the Northam. We share a common interest in Saints and on the 2or maybe 3 occasions I haven't been able to go together she has gone with one of my daughters, who are also Saints mad. In fact we make a day of home matches. Travelling to the big city of Southampton, having a spot of per- match lunch, attending the match and then finding a good pub for a evening meal together. Can recommend it.

Turkish Posted 6 August, 2013 Share Posted 6 August, 2013 Or has decided to take an interest? Thanks to my influence one of my exes is now a fan herself. She is insecure and can't bear her chap to have an interest that doesn't involve her. Although I'm not surprised you took a bird to football, no doubt just after you set up a Facebook group for men only entitled 'save our Saturdays' keeping march day a women free zone. swisscottager Posted 6 August, 2013 Share Posted 6 August, 2013 Excellent thread - good to see so many liberated types out there! Took mine to Brighton away in 82 -I think - where we drew 1-1. Might of been the same game as ericofarabia as it was Xmas time and about 2500 Saints fans right next to the Brighton fans with 100 odd coppers all with yellow riot helmets on keeping us apart. Steve Williams scored an equaliser and I remember a burger stall getting turned over and loads of buns/ketchup being thrown about. The language was particularly choice and most unfestive like. She said "is it always like this?". I tried to explain that it was a normal away game atmosphere but dont think she believed me. Hasn't been since which suits both parties but still together !! Norm Posted 6 August, 2013 Share Posted 6 August, 2013 My gf (now wife) and I started to watch Saints together (mostly away games) in the early 60s. Went by coach or any car we could bum a lift in. Funny how things worked out, she worked for the Saints for 9 years later on! Knew all the 'oldies' by name when she met them.

The9 Posted 7 August, 2013 Share Posted 7 August, 2013 The wife has a ST in the seat next to me. I also took a Skate I was seeing to St Mary's to watch a celeb game once, and five other exes have attended matches with me at the Dell, Liberty Stadium, St Mary's, Anfield and Highfield Road over the years, some of them more successfully than others. None of them have been particularly embarrassing, though one of them definitely did not enjoy herself.

The9 Posted 7 August, 2013 Share Posted 7 August, 2013 The Missus is a glory hunter. Only interested in the JPT final and the Coventry promotion game. My missus is like that for Newport County matches, she's been to Wembley twice to see them, and otherwise has only seen three league matches, all of which they have won 4-1. She could have got 50/1 for that on Saturday, and thanks to her superpowers, called the final score at 1-0. I believe they may be lining up a comp ST for her on this basis. I was at that game but without Mrs EoA , ours was a year or so later!! Just as well she wasn't with me at that match. We got absolutely bladdered before even setting foot on the football special from Eastleigh. real edge on the terraces throughout the afternoon, a commando raid over the fence by 2 Saints fans had the whole BHA mob on it's toes. My mate got hit by a tomato ketchup bottle!! After the game we recognised a few of the faces from The Warrens charging up a side street towards a mob of BHA fans. It seemed in our p!ssed up state of mind a good laugh to join in until the wise heads of The Warrens Mob spotted it for what it was, an ambush and slowed down.,but we hadn't, which left me and my mate leading the charge as a barrage of stones were hurled at us from another side street. By now we were running on the spot waiting for The Warrens Mob to catch up!! When we looked behind the place was full of Old Bill and every body dispersed, my mate having to vault over a WPC who stuck out a leg to try and trip him up. Having made good our escape we steadfastly stayed clear of any other trouble we saw!! Not my finest moment indeed. Never been involved in trouble at matches before or since, except from a voyeuristic point of view, but I'd have been on the receiving end of a battering if Mrs EoA had seen my antics that day!! Summers Posted 7 August, 2013 Share Posted 7 August, 2013 Fun Thread, As it happens, I've taken a few birds to games. First one massive saints fan and a very good mate, Worked well. Second one - Never Went, but was a boyband stalker, safe to say she was a mistake Third - Was at Wembley and MK Dons for the JPT games and also a couple of others, wasn't a massive fan, but did it to join in the fun I think more than anything else, she had a 100% record in wins, but also a nutter - had child with her. Fourth - Never went, but had planned on a Saints v Spurs game, still friends at the moment, so that game might go ahead - Only bird who's even worn my Saints shirt in bed too ;-)
