dannysfc Posted 2 August, 2013 Posted 2 August, 2013 My friend who is an Arsenal fan was at the TNS v Legia Warsaw game in Wrexham a few weeks ago and she told me that Marek Saganowski scored for Legia Warsaw against TNS and going by what I saw of him I thought he did pretty well at Saints tbh and got in amongst the goals from what I recall as well so what do people think of him then? Thanks! COYR!!!
Toon Saint Posted 2 August, 2013 Posted 2 August, 2013 Favourite moment was his hat-trick away to Wolves. My ex-girlfriends step-dad was a Wolves season ticket holder (still is bless him) so I was actually sat with the Wolves fans. Crazy game, could have easily been 3-0 down before we scored and Wolves even contrived to miss a penalty. Every chance we had we seemed to score, and Saga's chipped effort was the best of the bunch. Hit it first time I believe, lovely dinked effort while running onto a through ball which seemed almost impossible to pull off. He had that wonderful scoring run when he first arrived on loan but then seemingly couldn't be arsed once we signed him permanently. Did score that all-important goal vs Sheffield Wed on last day of following season, mind, so I'll let him off.
sotonjoe Posted 2 August, 2013 Posted 2 August, 2013 Must have been a corner if a keeper scored. Always remember that save against Newcastle.

We had quite a few injuries iirc and were all expecting a defeat. A completely freak result.
Saint Charlie Posted 2 August, 2013 Posted 2 August, 2013 Had a purple patch in what was then a poor Championship and was then vastly overrated by the fanbase.
Lighthouse Posted 2 August, 2013 Posted 2 August, 2013 Was a decent striker but when Burley lost the plot in summer 2007 his form completely flopped. He would have done well playing in a decent team as he did in his initial loan period.
saints_is_the_south Posted 2 August, 2013 Posted 2 August, 2013 Scored a shed load to earn himself a contract, and then largely looked like he couldn't be bothered once he'd done so. Agree with Saint Charlie, vastly overrated.
Colinjb Posted 2 August, 2013 Posted 2 August, 2013 I sometimes think back to that season he was on loan and I am now glad we didn't go up that year. We would never have known it, but the fallout of Michael Wilde's financial gamble on promotion ended up in us being reborn stronger then we could have ever imagined. I did like Saganowski at the time, such a pity he flattered to deceive while chasing a contract.
John Boy Saint Posted 2 August, 2013 Posted 2 August, 2013 Like has been alluded to above, played like his backside was on fire whilst on loan. Got a permanent contract and reached for his pipe and slippers. bit like Rasiak and Skacel who flattered to deceive in reality and like a mate said while we watched Saints V Norwich on the eve of the transfer window closing "Blimey Rasiak and Rudi will be up for a drugs test tonight!!" next day one was at Bolton the other, if I am correct was at a Berlin club.
Chicken With A Banjo Posted 3 August, 2013 Posted 3 August, 2013 From memory saganowski, rasiak and skacel were all inexplicably left out of the starting line up for long periods of time. Which for some reason was interpreted by some fans as reaching for pipe and slippers. I would love to know the reasons. I don't believe it was because they weren't good enough.
jasonb Posted 3 August, 2013 Posted 3 August, 2013 The one thing these threads have in common is how shocking my memory is. I remember the guy obviously but I can't remember results or games like many here... Must be an age thing. Saying that. I may of chosen, subconsciously, to obliterate those wilderness years.. Or I was getting wasted at games back then. As you were

Agree with Saint Charlie, vastly overrated. Thing is, if remembered rightly. We knew this was a common trait of his? Not that the average fan had any influence

Couldn't afford the appearance fees, goal bonuses etc. That was the rumour at the time I think. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2

ottery st mary Posted 3 August, 2013 Posted 3 August, 2013 Saga , Saga , Saga................. Memory failing me.....Old age. I only remember legends like Ali Dia;)...Now there was a striker if only given a chance:p Saga was ok:)
suewhistle Posted 3 August, 2013 Posted 3 August, 2013 Thing is, if remembered rightly. We knew this was a common trait of his? I seem to remember that as well but as fans we live in hope..
suewhistle Posted 3 August, 2013 Posted 3 August, 2013 As an aside, it's funny what you do and don't remember. I recall it being patently obvious that Andy Townsend was angling for a move when he suddenly and noticeably just stopped trying and shortly afterwards he departed, never to mention Saints again.

Whitey Grandad Posted 3 August, 2013 Posted 3 August, 2013 I seem to remember seeing him scoring a goal once.
Bucks Saint Posted 3 August, 2013 Posted 3 August, 2013 Couldn't afford the appearance fees, goal bonuses etc. That was the rumour at the time I think. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2 This. Shipped out on loan, like Rasiak, when they did not want to, leaving us vastly struggling for goals. All due to wage and appearance costs in hindsight of course. While I agree that some of his performances were very average, I dont buy that he did not care. The crucial goal against the Blades has been mentioned. I would also point to his celebrations, having recently been subbed, when Lallana scored his first senior goal the game before at WBA away.
Dark Munster Posted 3 August, 2013 Posted 3 August, 2013 Well, his name often comes up if one of our players is up for a new contract: "If he signs, let's hope he doesn't do a Saganowski."
