Leicestersaint Posted 1 August, 2013 Share Posted 1 August, 2013 I would like to think he is right in what he says: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2382701/James-Ward-Prowse-youngsters-like-Bale-left-Southampton-present-state.html Incidentally, is the Daily Mail becoming Saints house magazine?! SNSUN Posted 1 August, 2013 Share Posted 1 August, 2013 Last picture in that article. I believe we haven't seen as many transfers coming in this summer as we thought because we're planning on using the youngsters more this season. I saw JWP play against Man Utd in the early stages of last season and thought he looked very composed. Him and Shaw will have a big part to play this season. It'll be interesting to see how much we use players like Isgrove and Chambers though. I'd love to see a winger like Isgrove come in and nail down a spot this season. (Much as that would annoy Puncheon...)
The9 Posted 1 August, 2013 Share Posted 1 August, 2013 I can see Isgrove doing something, he's got pace, energy and seems confident and able to impose himself as well as looking like a finisher. Chambers may get a run if others are injured or if he shows enough in training to warrant a few starts. Not sure about JWP, he hasn't shown me much and he's got some good players ahead of him, but at least he's in good hands and will be trying his best to do what's asked of him. Completely agree re: Bale, I made a similar point a day or two ago when mentioning what Spurs could give him that we couldn't - which included the ability to develop around top Premier League players and get European experience. max_saints Posted 2 August, 2013 Share Posted 2 August, 2013 but we would still eventually lose him to RM except we reap the full reward of that 85mil fee

Mr Sparky Posted 2 August, 2013 Share Posted 2 August, 2013 Oxlaide Chambermaid would have still left. His and his dads ego and greed would've seen to that. Its a fact in football that if a player has no heart or desire to play for a club , and has a value then the only sensible thing is to let him go (on your terms) as we did

Golden Balls Posted 2 August, 2013 Share Posted 2 August, 2013 It seems that we are making a big point about signing the young ones to long term contracts to keep hold of them. I do believe this will be Luke Shaws last season with us before replacing Ashley Cole. But we can now command much larger fees. Shame Theo, Ox and Bale came through when we were in the lower leagues. What a team we'd have now.

But at least his leaving produced one of Cortese's finest negotiating moments. At the face-to-face meeting, Arsenal's negotiator offered £4m - "no higher". Cortese unclipped his watch, set it on the table, and said: You've got ten minutes to agree to £12m plus £3m add-ons or the deal is off. Arsenal caved. He's a smart lad, he loves and respects Southampton but no one can begrudge him a move like that. Edited 2 August, 2013 by DuncanRG
