I must have missed when we have played a 4 1 3 2 formation ever....

----------Boruc

Clyne Lovren Hooiveld Shaw

----Wanyama Morgan

J-Rod ---Gaston---Lallana

----------Rickie

Yoshi if he's fit, Damiao instead of Rickie if we sign him. Maybe Cork instead of Gaston and a more solid 3 in the middle.

I agree with this one. That is probably our best 11 (with Yoshida) and the forwards should frighten anyone. I am keeping my fingers crossed that Wanyama proves to be the missing link who is strong enough in midfield to get the best out of our flair players.

Yes, very harsh on Cork though if he doesn't start the season.

Why on earth is everyone so confident on Damiao all of a sudden? Has something changed/news broken? I'll admit i've not really been around much this week to keep up to date with it all....but here and other forums, people are talking as if he's ours....but I can't find any news stories to suggest he is?

I don't necessarily think that means he's playing on his own though, Puncheon and Lallana will be expected to support him on every opportunity in that formation. In fact, i'd expect very little width and more of a dynamic 2 playing behind Jay. (maybe puncheon being the player who pulls out wide now and then)

The idea of lambert not being in team is plain stupid. J rod was pants last 9 games.

Ah, should have realized the jist of your post was based on Lambert not being in the team. ;)

Don't say it like I'm odd for saying that. You go to swansea away? J rod second half played upfront on his own and was just terrible on his own. Why is it odd for me to think that our top scorer should be in team?

As this is a tricky away game to start off with I would look to keep ourselves solid and implement our aggressive defending style from the off. With that in mind I would pick Cork, Morgan and Wanyama with Lambert, Rodriguez and Puncheon in front. Obviously if we sign some awesome attacker before then they might get the nod.

With a bench of Ramirez, Lallana, Davis, Mayuka, maybe Isgrove we should be able to change things and make an impact later if needed.

I just think a solid start should be the priorit this year.

Still too early to tell IMO.

As it stands though, our strongest team is: Boruc, Clyne, Lovren, Jos, Shaw, Morgan, Wanyama, Davis, Ramirez, JRod, Lambert. Whether that's what happens depends on illness, injury, how far they are into pre-season and of course transfers, both incoming and outgoing.

To conclude with my first statement, it's still too early to tell.

Boruc

Clyne Lovren Yoshida Shaw

Cork Wanyama Schneiderlin

Ramirez

Lambert Rodriguez

Subs: Davis Lallana Chambers Isgrove Mayuka Davis Puncheon

...that's what I would like to see, assuming we haven't signed anyone else. worried about a lack of width though

I think the time has come where we can only afford one of Lallana or Ramirez on the pitch at the same time, especially in an away game.

So much can change in 2 1/2 weeks, but here goes...

--------------------BORUC------------------

CLYNE----LOVREN----MAYA----SHAW

---------WANYAMA----CORK-------------

-------------------MORGAN----------------

JAYROD--------------------------LALLANA

-------------------LAMBERT-----------------

That's what I would play anyway. Expect we'll see Morgan alongside VW and Ramirez/Davis in the hole behind Rickie.

Provided the squads fit:

Boruc

Clone Maya lovren Shaw

Cork wanyama

Punch schneiderlin j rod

Lambert

Lovers is a lcb and Maya played as a rcb.

Punch and j rod were much more impressive than Lallana last year.

Schneiderlin seems good at making those late bursts and can see him scoring goals now.

On a similar wavelength to benji, very attacking bench.

Not as attacking as aussi dogs though, might only have the 2 wingers and put a cb in there.

This but Punch or Davis ahead of Lallana, Davis away from home is solid. Be interesting this year to see if Gaston ever lasts past 60 mins

Don't agree with this idea of shoehorning Cork into the team by playing Morgan as one of an attacking 3, why on earth would you do that when he was our best player in that DM role last year, tough on Cork but he will get games as sub or later in the season

Having watched VW play it seems pretty apparent he is not a busy show for the ball, pass the ball technical player like Cork who suits our short passing game. VW and Morgan are similar players and i doubt will work as a pair unless we go more direct and play a bit of hoof ball.

As was Lambert, hence we're looking for a new number 9. Lambert has hardly set the world on fire in preseason. J-Rod has scored more and looked better.

Not on weekend. We were pants first half and then lambert scored and made the next one. Lambert doesn't ever do well pre season but when it matters turns it on.

If we sign the striker poch wants Lambert will be on the bench (or possibly no 10) so poch can play the tactics he wants.

Im more concerned people believe we will play our best DM as a no 10.

Agreed, people are trying to turn Morgan into Iniesta when he's more like Xavi.

West Brom play 4-3-3, so I reckon we'll match them up. Cork, Wanyama and Morgan midfield 3, Rodriguez and Ramirez playing just behind Lambert.

Good call but strange that MP hasn't played that formation so far, nor have Cork, Wanyama and Morgan played together at the same time.

Here goes & depending on everyone being ready for the start of the season.

--------- Boruc-------

Clyne- Yoshi- Lovren-Shaw

------Spider---Big Vic

J Rod- Gaston- Punch

------ SRL-------

Gaston is by far our best attacking player if he plays in his favoured position. change Yoshi for Fonte if not fit & JWP for Gaston if not fit. SRL drops to bench if new striker is signed.

Surprising people are still claiming for Hooiveld to be on our starting 11 despite us having signed at least 2 players who will be a clear improvement on him (I would expect so after the money we've spent!).

It's clear to me that one of Fonte or Hooiveld (I honestly hope it's the latter as he is the worst of the two to me!) will be out of the squad come the 30th, Sharp and Hammond style. I've accepted that Fox will stay for another long season, but Shaw should now be better prepared so no biggie.
