Norwich going for it,

Barry Sanchez

where are our signings? Cortese better be prepared to spend on a striker or we shall suffer.

Van Wolfswinkel, Hooper and now Quagliarella, good good signings, are they going for a top 4 spot instead of us?

Great post. Have they even signed Quagliarella yet? Thought not.

So why are people getting so excited over him? Not seen him on European young player of the year nominations or anything like that....

Young Dutch international striker who has just signed for a comparable club for £10m - as opposed to us chasing Damiao a young international striker who has never played in Europe, doesn't speak English, doesn't want to come here and costs twice as much.

Why should I rise to your crap, you voted for Cortese statue and then in protest ripped up your season when it did'nt happen, you are simply unbalanced when it comes to the quality and prospective quality of our team.

Well, are you screaming into a mirror?

Would you not expect Brazils number 9 to cost more then a Dutch reserve player?

We are all good on the striker front for our European adventure, Mayuka, Lee and Sharp will show em............................

And the question was, have they actually signed Quagliarella yet? The answer is no.

therefore your thread is utterly pointless.

You also fail to remember that Norwich actually sold Holt in the summer and Simeon Jacskon, so they're replacing and upgrading on those. We already have Jay and Rickie, we need 1 more, but that will come.

Ah **** it, what's the point. You're only a wum.

Has the window closed yet? I've been pretty busy lately so I must have missed it. I take it we didn't buy anyone else? Otherwise why start this thread…

Both are strikers capped by their country, with the Netherlands currently higher rated than Brazil, but neither are first choice. He was in the Olympics, which Jack Cork also played in. Is Cork now worth £22m?

West Ham shied away from signing him, but Bazza has peered into his crystal ball and has seen that not only will Norwich sign him, but he will be a revelation for them. Far better than any striker that we will sign during the next month.

I will reserve my excitement and my judgement on Norwich's signings 3 months into the season, until then I see nothing to get excited about.

Same for me for Lovren and Wanyama, on paper they may be giants but until I've seen them play...........

Who remembers last summer when people were saying how good Reading were going to do because they signed all these quality players before we had signed anyone?

The likes of Pavel "Play-for-a-contract" Pogrebnyak and Danny Guthrie were sure to see them shoot up the league and us relegated.

Hmmmmm. Sound familiar?

I was sure QPR would have done well 12 months ago

First off they haven't signed Quigerella they are just linked.

Secondly they only have 3 strikers, Van Wolfswinkel, Hooper and Bechhio.

None of whom have played in the Premier League or in Europes top 5 leagues so all are a gamble. Hooper and Bechio are Championship level strikers,

Thirdly, strikers are well and good but their only decent midfielder is Snodgrass, our midfield is much better.

Fourthly we will sign a striker.

1) Hooper isn't anything to be too excited about - anyone can score goals in Scotland. There's a reason he almost signed for a Championship team.

2) Norwich have not yet signed Quagliarella. If they do, then I will be impressed as he is a good player.

3) Van Wolfswinkel sounds a good player, but is anyone who says he will be a world beater basing that on anything other than the fact he usually signs for Chelsea and bangs in a few on Football Manager?

I'm sure that we had similar threads on here from posters like BS when QPR and Reading signed some players people had heard of/thought were good. That turned out great didn't it? They were probably perceived as 'going for it' last summer.

I'm sure our scouts were aware of the availability of players like Hooper and Van Wolfswinkel and that we chose not to sign them as we had other players in mind. I will reserve my judgement until the end of the season.

Van Wolfswinkel is an amazing signing, could be the buy of the season, Hooper not too shabby and Quagliarella an unknown, certainly better than our premium signings. Wanyama is good mind but not a superstar signing, for us to get into Europe we need another quality striker bare minimum, Norwich have got one at least assured.

Why is Van Wolfswinkel an amazing signing, yet Quagliarella an unknown?

But yes I agree with comeoyoureds, we are domed. DOMED!

Norwich didn't spend anywhere near as much as us last season and won't do this season either. Make of that what you will based on similar receipts of gate money and TV money.

I think Norwich are currently outstripping us so far this summer though. Their expenditure to date must be running at a little less than 30 million. 10 more than us for the time being.

For the time being. But as we have been linked with players costing £20 million, we will wait until the window closes to see how that pans out.

Norwich needed to make the signings because they had a poor team last season. I watched a few of their games, and the standard of football was awful - in some matches it seemed like they were playing for set pieces in the hope they could get goals from them. Their away win on the last day of the season at City was a freak. Hughton is an OK manager but IMO he's not the person they need to push on to the next level. The signings they've made have been solid, but they needed to be made. I can see Norwich pushing for top ten next season but not for top 4. My in-laws are all Norwich fans (as is the wife) and none of them truly have faith in Hughton. With all these signings they've made, a poor start will see him gone.

It's irrelevant how Norwich are doing though as to how we're doing. We needed to strengthen a few positions and we've started out doing that. I don't for a second think our transfer business is done for the summer, the club would be foolish not to keep looking, and we need to make one or two attacking signings yet. I wait with anticipation for the close of the window on September 2nd. Then I'll properly judge how our summer has gone. If we don't sign anyone else, I'll be as concerned as others. But we do have plenty of time yet to sign players.

This is the team that finished three places above us.

Because they pulled off that last day freak away win against City. Without that, a game I'd have happily bet on them losing (and would have lost of course), we'd have finished above them. Albeit on goal difference. With about 10 more goals scored.

Norwich started well but faded as the season went on. We started badly and got better. I still think our last few games should have brought more points though.

I feel like that on here sometimes, in the last few months every team that finished in around us has been slammed as awful,we've had players like Frank Lampard described as s*it. All other clubs business in the transfer window is terrible and everyone who finished from 8th down this season is going to struggle next, all the above excludes us of course, who have done everything brilliantly and are all set to flourish after our brilliance last season.

The interest in Norwich is understandable. A similar sized club to Saints with a similar recent history. Both clubs provincial with a loyal but similar size fan base. Both clubs are well matched. What is intriguing is the different approach of the two clubs to the transfer market. I think Norwich will be solid mid table next season, Saints to struggle around the relegation zone.
