Have we saved wages on our transfers so far?

Were the combined wages of Richardson, Seabourne, Chaplow, Dickson, Forren and Harding more than what we are paying Lovren and Wanyama?

My guess is on basic salary the two in are on total £70k /week. The wages out in total were probably a total £90/week. So I think we may be in the black so far on transfer wages. Is this faitly close?

Wanyama was only on about £5k p/w at Celtic if I recall so doubt were paying him anymore than £25k p/w after tax.

Lovren, a Champions League CB, I reckon he'll be on about £40k-£50k p/w after tax.

Both players combined would be around the £75k mark I guess.

Possibly - But there are still a number of players who we haven't moved on, that are surplus to requirements and drawing wages.

Interesting that we are playing Barnard, Martin, Tadanari, Sharp and De Ridder in the development team this week !

For players seemingly on the way out, they must be costing a fair whack, probably even more than the ones you have mentioned !

Swings and roundabouts really, but perhaps it is the biggest reason why clubs leave new signings as late as possible before the start of the season ?

Chaplow had remainder of contract paid up and I assume the other players surplus to requirements will have the same. Given they are on decent wages no doubt it would explain why they are difficult to transfer. They wont take drop in wages unless saints pay up there contract, but Don will be hard negotiator hence time taking to sort out.

I'm 99% sure this is not the case. His contract was terminated by mutual consent, not paid up in full. Do you have any evidence to suggest this is what happened?

There is absolutely nothing to gain by a club paying up a player's contract early, so it is pretty unlikely.

I would have to agree. Millwall wanted him, we do him a favour by cancelling his contract, which means there is no transfer fee, he gets a signing on fee, which makes up any delta on wages.

This is normally seen as a Club looking after a player, who no longer features in their plans.

Wouldn't that be 50k and 100k then?

I'd love to know some of the figures involved in this.

It's tricky to assume what they'd be on, due to probable promotion bonuses etc.

Of the 8 that got released (Dickson, Seaborne, Hoskins, Reeves, Richardson, Butterfield, Seidi, Chaplow) - I'd estimate that's about 50k p/w in wages.

The 7 players that have been told to look elsewhere (Martin, Hammond, Forte, De Ridder, Lee, Barnard, Sharp) - I'd estimate that's about 100k p/w in wages.

Hard negotiator or hard to negotiate with? In these circumstances it just means you fail to move people on and it costs more in the long run.

I was just trying to sort out if we had a lot of money left to spend on salaries or not. If the guys in the development squad all get moved on as well then there seems to be a big amount of wages available for.....a free / nominal fee transfer on an experienced striker/ or AM player? The likes of Honda at CSKA for example would be a nominal fee but very high wages.

It would mean a big change in policy for NC but if we do not pick up the extra player/s we need through plan A then perhaps he might relent and bring in such types? I doubt it myself but i think he will not rule it out if the maths adds up ok.

no because we aren't getting shot of any of our dead wood. We might save 120K or so by not signing our new striker until August but we've already lost twice as much by not applying ourselves to the Sharp,Hammond,Lee, De Ridder etc question enough. Then again other clubs know that we need to move them on but don't want to pay them any longer than necessary either. On what date did Hammond go out on loan last season ? NPC must be starting soon surely, Saturday week perhaps.

I was under the impression that Chaplow's contract with Saints would have expired in July, but because he was injured we offered him a short-term extension, which was then terminated to enable him to sign for Millwall. Otherwise he'd have been released with the others in the summer. That's assuming his contract was up in 2013 of course.

Speaking of which, I haven't seen Forecast anywhere, has he snuck under the radar to sign that contract Gillingham offered him or not ?

I don't think we're bothered about moving players on, we seem more than happy to pay them their contracts as a reward for getting us back to the Prem and we're also happy to release players for nothing who would easily have raised a few thousand in the January window. The assumption is that none of the reserves who played in L1 or Championship will get similar wages from any other club so they don't want to leave, or just that no other club is prepared to pay what we are for them so the offers aren't there. Obviously as their contracts expire it's in the players' interests to get themselves a new deal at a new club, but until then some of them may not even want to go on loan (or may be prevented from doing so, like Dickson seemed to have been last summer).

I suspect the club don't think it's worth the effort selling the reserves, compared to the gains a big signing could bring in, so they focus on that. Which makes you wonder wtf they were doing in January...
