Poch is so tired of FIFA

England created the game, have a league famed the world over, some of the traditionally best, most original support the world over, iconic grounds, history, heritage. I'll ask again, why do Qatar DESERVE it?
Europe had the tournament in '90, '98 & '06 why should it come to Europe again? Its a World Cup, so it should be shared around the world. England got the history but in the end that means **** all and I'm sorry but "traditionally best, most original support the world over"? Give me a break.

I didn't actually say it should go to Europe again if you could be bothered to read. I asked why Qatar deserved it. No-one has been able to answer that yet. I think you need to give yourself a break.

Also out of interest, what are you doing on an English football club's website?

You see this is what makes me laugh, people moan about players not taking England call ups seriously and no one caring a our the national side, yet when its players with us that are internationals for another country we don't want them to play. I disagree entirely, you can't have double standards about this, if the player gets an international call up then they go on international duty, we knew the risk when we signed a Japanese and Uruguayan player and that this would happen and it is. If we don't like it don't sign players from other continents.

I'd abolish international football.

It's of a feeble standard compared to club football and doesn't pay the wages.

Go back to the national teams being amateurs, not pros.

I don't want people to take England call ups seriously. And I don't want Saints players to get them at all, really.

Well, adriansfc appears to have miscounted the number of countries in the world or possibly the frequency of the tournament.

I'm mildly narked at not being able to get to a "local" World Cup between 2006 and 2026 (I don't think Russia is particularly close), but I don't have a problem with developing footballing countries getting the opportunity to host the tournament, and if I'm THAT desperate I'll go to the Euros in France in 2016, or a north african AFCON or something.

I DO however, have a bit of a problem with giving the tournament to countries with dodgy human rights records, or intolerant governments, or awarding the tournament to a country that is completely unable to host it in the acceptable timeframe, and then just changing the dates to suit the organisers. You want a winter World Cup, you state it in your bid, or you rebid. Simple logical fairness, which of course is why Blatter's bullsh11tting his way out of it.

I dont believe that Qatar has requested it to be moved, delayed or have stated any concern with their commitment to meet the tender that was agreed. I think you will find that this is International footballs governing body thinking through the consequences of their decision after the decision has been made. Particulary the playing a tournament in 50 deg c issue. Every country had the right to bid....they did and won, and some of the other comments around how they won are pretty naive

There has been talk about spreading it across the region because as was mentioned earlier this really is an area where people love football.

Isnt time to cut our losses and give up on Ramirez ?

He hasnt played a minute of friendly time yet and is off again (interesting he is fit enough to play for Uruguay). Its going to be late October before we see him, then god knows how long he will last.

The most disastrous value-for-money signing in Saints history.

And if Maya is not going to be playing for another month, this puts a totally different shade on the "we need another CB" discussion.

Given that only 0.5% of the entire population of Qatar have ever watched a live game, and only 1.2% have only ever watched a live game on TV. Just how do they deserve it?

Football is a game designed and elvolved to be played in temperate climate, if were meant to played in such a hot dry environment it would surely have taken a different form..possibly on camels.

Perhaps thats why we have so little camel racing in the UK..

Where does late October come from? He and Maya have only not played friendlies because they returned later to enable them to have a rest after Intl duty - that is not their faults, they need rest at the end of a long season.

None of the other players played a friendly after two weeks of training. They are following the same pattern as the others but just delayed as they were not available for the start of pre season. If we rushed them back it would be against the advice of the medical staff etc.

I expect both will be bench vs WBA and most likely start vs Sunderland.

Qatar "deserve" it because they bribed Blatter the most.

It's a complete farce that they have the WC, but I do believe it should be elsewhere In the world than Europe.

What a pity that the national governing bodies of several of the World's top footballing nations just don't get together and tell that **** Blatter and FIFA to go and do one, that they will boycott the World Cup in Qatar. How did it come about that organisations like the Olympics and FIFA became controlled by bent nonentities like him and Samaranch and then re-organised so that third World banana republics gained sufficient voting powers to enable people like that to sustain their power bases for years and years?

You're probably right, it's because of bribery and corruption and it's long overdue that the whole system was totally swept away and reorganised along more democratic lines.

Think its a shame you didn't get chance to see him play, am sure would have changed your view, ( maybe not totally).

The value for money debate will be very different if he is sold for a profit, which could easily happen.

Tell that to Andy Murray after a 5 Set Match at full exertion and then plays 48 hours later in another!

Very different.

Ramirez is competing against rested footballers. Its not he is feeling bit tired its having him at his best. If tennis was a team game and you would select the fresh Murray who hadn't played 5 sets.

It only becomes a disasterous waste of money if we sell him now or he fails to deliver in the future. Presently he is our asset and one that we may be able to sell on - possibly even for a profit, even now. Ergo, he is not a disasterous waste of money.

I consider FIFA to be rotten to the core and (for me!) the Qatar decision confirms this, sure new regions around the globe deserve a chance but can someone please tell me why the Australian bid was less appealing than a tiny country with 50 degree temperatures in summer ??

Regarding the Japan/Uruguay friendly though, why is FIFA being blamed for this ? Did they insist that it was played or (more likely IMO) did they just give the go-ahead at the request of the two countries ? Surely if Poch has an issue it should be with the two national associations and not FIFA in this case ??

Maybe this is a stupid question, maybe not...

But why are we releasing him for this friendly if we consider him to be unsufficiently fit to play for us? Ergo, how can he bit fit enough to play for them ?

I am less concerned about Maya because he has repeatedly demonstrated his ability to play a game out for us.

First of all. The friendly is in two weeks from now.

Second, the squad hasn´t been selected yet. It´s not sure he´s in it but probably will be though.

Third, we cant stop him due to rules unless we can show that he´s got an injury. If we do that and he plays within five days from the FIFA date the Uruguayan federation can make charges against us if they want to.

Nobody has said that Qatar deserve the World Cup apart from Sour Mash in his rant.

The ARAB world deserved to host a World Cup, when added to the Iranians in this area they have a huge combined population.

Strangely, each country in the AQrab World have their own professional Football Leagues, FIFA standard Referees, Live Television Coverage of every game.

Then German, Spanish, French, MLS and British Televised matches are shown in the entire region. EVERY Premier League match is shown (which is more than you do in the UK).

Those Arabs PAY for that coverage so they have an interest in and deserved the chance to host the World Cup. Hell the DEMAND is growing as are the Subscriptions -as you have seen this season with Saints, their TV money/PL income has gone up in part due to the sale of Overseas TV rights.

The Arab World deserved the World Cup.

Unfortunately, the only viable BID came from Qatar.

The Arabs won't care, they won't be worried about buying a warm Budweiser in the stadium, they won't be demanding Gay Rights when staying in the 5 star hotels or commuting in on the Low Cost airlines.

WE knew it was insane a long time before the rest of the world woke up to what was happening.

Just don't go bidding for any of the work over there is all I can offer as advice, and there will be more than enough British Soccer fans able to day trip in around here to fill the stadiums whichever UK based National Team qualifies. We won't need the plastics coming in and being all anti-cultural in the name of PC ness

Great.

F**king let them.

Pay the fine.

Or dont play him for 5 days.

I dont see how FIFA really can force us to release a player if his fitness is potentially degraded by the call-up. I am assuming this is why we've decided he is "not ready".

Unless of course Ramirez himself is going to kick up a fuss. In which case we are back in Delgado territory with a player not really committed to his employer.

Yeah, damn players that want to commit to the national team just because the WC is held in their own continent for the only time they have a chance to participate in it...

So, his participation in the finals is endangered because his employer decides he shouldnt go to one meaningless friendly a year in advance due to ongoing fitness concerns , is it ?

I doubt the Uruguay coach thinks like that, and if Ramirez thinks so he should be enlightened.

Really, why do certain people suffer a rush of blood to the head and genital regions whenever Ramirez is mentioned in anything other than gushing tones ???

this place is as bonkers about football as the rest of the planet and they deserve the chance to watch something like this.

The African Nation (& Shakira) had their tournament in 2010, the Arab world have theirs this time round. The PEOPLE deserve it.

It's not even been a particularly long thread.

These men need to get a fekkin grip! I've been at work 10yrs straight and these wimps can't do 2 years on the money they're on?

They earn in a week what I earn in a year ffs

I know what you mean , but I've worked for 50 years and seldom found holidays " relaxing ", though some were memorable in different ways.

The real problem is the amount of travel, not to mention the jet-lag afterwards. How often does your employer ask you to go and work in Tokio or Montevideo?

Some people enjoy travelling all over the World, others may loath it.

The amount of money they're on shouldn't really affect the way they play.

Does someone who gets 50K /week play twice as well as he did when he was ONLY on 25K ..if so I'll certainly enjoy watching Gareth Bale playing for Real.

Playing top level football demands a combination of physical and mental perfection - though playing against inferior opposition also helps.

Of course, that's correct Phil,

...and if we are talking about a " World game ", then players will need to adjust, just as they did when the World Cup was played in Mexico at several thousand feet.

I just hope the heat in Qatar doesn't kill anyone, even if they do have purpose-built arenas.

Quite agree Phil and with the daughter getting a job with Qatar airlines I can see some freebie flights and tickets arriving as well I will be there which ever season it happens in.
