Forget Damiao etc lets buy Lukaku

I'm sure most of us would love Lukaku. There are some slight problems with this though. He appears to be highly rated at Chelsea - so much so that a £30m bid would almost certainly be turned down. Even if we did get a bid accepted, we'd have to significantly overpay, and would then have to 'sell' the club to the player. The only things we can offer are playing time and wages. If Chelsea are willing to offer him the former we stand no chance IMHO.

According to Monk on here we did inquire about buying him. Think Mourinho will want to give him at least one season, but if they do buy Rooney and still ahve Torress and Ba on their books I'm not sure how that'll work out for them.

Any chance they may put him out on loan again?

i have a feeling mourinho really rates him and his performances so far in preseason have not harmed his chances of finally breaking the first team at chelsea this season. think we have more chance with damiao than lukaku, but both very low likelihood of coming either way

You say it like the club wouldn't have considered it if it's at all possible. If he is available I'm sure Saints and many other clubs will try, but I can't see them letting him go. Torres and Ba aren't exactly strikers for the future after all.
you think clubs consider everyone? The club may well think about it but might be blinded by the desire to buy someone from a foreign club

Lukaku will be Chelsea's main striker this year IMO.

This. Remember he scored a hat-trick against ManU last game of the season and has been impressive in Chelsea's pre season according to many. I can see him being Mourinho's new Drogba type, focal point of the attack with all their skill players playing around him

Im going to suggest he'll be top EPL goal scorer by end of Sept

Belgian Andy Carroll IMO.

Most confusing comment, either Andy Carroll is good or Lukaku isn't?!

Lukaku is miles ahead of Carroll, he can dribble the ball and do all sorts of stuff (really impressed me second half of last season) Carroll is a bit of a donkey with one good performance last year.

Would still be great to get him in the summer, but I suspect Mourinho may have learned from his mistake this season.

I suspect Chelsea and Evertons fortunes may have been different had the loan not gone ahead. I wonder if Jose doesn't ge on with him. Everton would be in pole position but he would be a superb signing IMO

Swap deal for Luke Shaw?

Chelsea seem to have pretty poor strikers for a top side can't understand why they sent Lukaku out on loan. Thing is if Chelsea really don't want him loads of sides would take him like a shot. Think he would have his pick of top sides no way would we land him. He would be an amazing signing though.

If we are serious about top 4, we could sell Shaw for £35m and buy Remy + Lukaku + new LB

If only it were that simple. Do you think Remy, Lukaku and the new unnamed LB will accept a third of the wage Shaw is on as well ?

Lukaku would be an obvious choice, but if Chelsea are really looking to offload a striker, then I'd go along with a suggestion on here about the young striker Bamford. Right age to fit in with our crop of youngsters.

Sell Osvaldo and Ramirez and that frees up 6.8 million a year in wages!!

Fair point, in particular selling Osvaldo ( I'm open minded about Ramirez). But then again sell Osvaldo, and we don't need to dip into the Shaw funds so far for a striker.

Benteke, bony or welbeck would be my choice. Or obviously Lukaku but I think he will either be overpriced or chelsea wont want to let him go again, it depends if they are going big for a top top striker in the summer.

Mourinho wasnt happy with the way he played, he wanted his strikers to work harder and I dont think RL agreed, hence the loan to everton similar to Mata being shipped out.

We will see just how real this top 6 ambition is in the summer as without keeping our top players and spending on a top striker we wont achieve it.

Welbeck would suit us fine, play him where Davis is and have two pacey 'Inside Forwards', not to mention Welbeck would do a job up front as well if needs be.

Can't see him leaving Utd, and then joining us. Think Hernandez is the striker that will leave and he wouldn't suit us at all and will prob head to Spain.

I dunno, I think that IF Utd do what everyone expects in the summer and spend big the DW could find himself surplus aswell. He wont go to any of the top four I dont think except for perhaps Arsenal if wenger releases the purse strings.

He would certainly be a good fit for us and I dont personally think we would have to change anything at all.

Lukaku would be my no 1 but I also like the look of Remy or Bony.

Even Welbeck might not be a bad shout and would enjoy playing alongside some of the other England players. Could see him flourishing here (only if Man Utd wanted to release him though).

They'd burn Moyes at the stake if he sold Welbeck. United need more young players, not fewer

I dont think they would right now in all honestly, they probably should do but I can see a few of their top youngsters leaving due to Utd chasing glory and buying big.

Welbeck and even Cleverley would probably progress quicker with a change of scenery

I think Bony would great for us he is improving every game and looks like he could be very good, like Welbeck but will compete with J Rod not take over from Lambert as he becomes an impact sub. But on reflection Welbeck and J Rod could potentially be a very awkward day for a lot of centre halves !!!

Sorry but Wellbeck has flaws, in the last couple of years he should have been top of the scoring sheets at Utd given the style they played under Fergie and "stepping down" to us I think he will become a bit BWP (no not a robbing little scrote) believing that he is better than he actually is.

Not really, continually played out of position and not really given a consistant chance. What you say mimics what many thought about Sturridge, and his step down hasnt damaged him. In Welbeck I see a hungry young english CF with the attributes to play in our system and added benefit that he could interchange with J Rod should the need arise. I think given the right environment he will develop into a great little player.

As per Utd fans, Im not saying your wrong Duncan, in fact I agree, he has outperformed RVP, my point is that fans are generally fickle, look at ours when Ossie landed on our plate, Lambert was all but forgotten. That will happen with Welbeck, a big striker signing and they'll forget all about him.
