Gemmel Posted 24 July, 2013 Share Posted 24 July, 2013 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23440616 Seems we were chasing him for ages, now he ends up in the Championship. Am I wrong in thinking we had a confirmed bid of over 5 million turned down? Cant see that qpr would have paid that sort of money, but anyway, what seems to have been a long term target is now off the radar.
The9 Posted 24 July, 2013 Share Posted 24 July, 2013 AFAIK we stopped being interested when we stopped having his former manager in charge in January, and everything since then has been lazy media speculation.

scotty Posted 24 July, 2013 Share Posted 24 July, 2013 Will be interesting to see how he does in the npc. Presumably, if any pl clubs had thought he was worth the money/hype, thats where he'd be heading.
Colinjb Posted 24 July, 2013 Share Posted 24 July, 2013 Celtic will still win the SPL at a canter next year. But if their best two players go to a lower premier league side (as we currently stand) and a championship club what does that really say about them? I really don't believe that Hooper will do that well for QPR. Will score 15+ but will not be the championship's top scorer.
SNSUN Posted 24 July, 2013 Share Posted 24 July, 2013 If Celtic keep selling their "jewels", isn't there a very real possibility that both of the old firm clubs lose their grip on dominating Scottish football? Or are Celtic rich enough thanks to things like the Champions League to sustain it?

Or are Celtic rich enough thanks to things like the Champions League to sustain it? How are any of the other clubs going to get close to them without getting into the CL, and what kind of player is going to sign for a non-CL club and be good enough to challenge Celtic and the kind of players they can attract compared to the other sides ? Even if better players sign for the smaller clubs, Celtic (and Rangers when they get back there) will be able to sign anyone who looks decent on a much better deal. Just the crowds alone give them a huge advantage. Whether Rangers can get back to where they were immediately on return to the Scottish Premiership (as renamed today) remains to be seen - the first season back will certainly be an interesting one, there's a possibility they don't immediately come second ! Two very public statements Bridge and now Hooper and neither deal materializes. How does he keep getting away with it? I have seen nothing to suggest we've even made a bid in the past 12 months, never mind had one rejected. The last report that we'd actually made a bid for him was January 2012, and we were a top 3 Championship side at the time. There are loads of summer 2013 reports that we are "reported to be interested", but nothing that we've had any kind of interest or made a bid (i.e. those reports are completely made up). He'll be a decent replacement for Holt for Norwich but I think they're signing him as an alternative to Van Wolfswinkel and may not use both of them together, pretty tricky to score from the bench. Saint Charlie Posted 25 July, 2013 Share Posted 25 July, 2013 Norwich very astute in the transfer market. WE could do with taking a leaf out of their book. Everyone keeps saying this, and they have made some good signings on paper, but haven't bought anyone apart from van Wolfswinkel that would be a guarenteed starter for us. Fer is promising but we are well stocked in midfield. Redmond is not currently anywehere near Puncheon, Lallana, Ramirez. Garrido & Olssen are decent, but nothing spectacular (and not as good as our fullbacks) and Carlo Nash is a Davis style backup keeper.
Bucks Saint Posted 25 July, 2013 Share Posted 25 July, 2013 He's going to QPR anyway. QPR are likely to submit a revised bid today or tomorrow which Celtic will accept. Norwich will match it. Hooper will then be free to negotiate terms and he wants to go to Norwich My timing was out, sorry, otherwise you are welcome

mulletsaint Posted 25 July, 2013 Share Posted 25 July, 2013 Well, if we are not moving for Hooper, hope we have someone pencilled in or we are in for a long and disappointing relegation battle. Yawn. I'd imagine that judging by the fact we have been linked with Osvaldo, Damiao and Quagliaralla to name but a few that we are in the market for a striker. It would also appear from those names that we are after someone a cut above Hooper. I'll be ****ed off if we don't end up with a decent one and Hooper has a good season at Norwich, but at the moment there's still plenty of time to get a marquee signing in. ART Posted 25 July, 2013 Share Posted 25 July, 2013 We need goals and letting Hooper go will probably come back to haunt us. DuncanRG Posted 25 July, 2013 Share Posted 25 July, 2013 I must have missed something, but people seem to know all about Norwich's signings. I've not heard of most of them. Is this just a Football Manager thing or have people seen them play?? It's a combination of them being a likeable club and the emphasis on quantity over quality. They're signing a lot of players, so we must be behind.

DuncanRG Posted 25 July, 2013 Share Posted 25 July, 2013 You think Norwich are signing quantity over quality? I have no idea, I think a lot of our fans are unaware of their quality but assume Norwich are doing good business cause they're signing in numbers. But Sunderland/PDC are infinitely less likeable and look more like a QPR-style rebuild, even though they've got some good players in themselves.
