Master Bates Posted 5 December, 2008 Posted 5 December, 2008 Roy Keane will open talks with Southampton today about becoming a player/coach until the end of the season. The move will benefit both parties, as Keane will gain experience as a coach working with Saints young squad, while at the same time giving some grit to the Saints midfield. He is likely to take on the captains armband until Svensson recovers too. pmsl http://www.footballforums.net/forums/showthread.php?t=187201

Fowllyd Posted 5 December, 2008 Posted 5 December, 2008 If he wants a pie as you play deal will be awesome signing for us How many pies would we need though? Quite a few I'd think. In the days of Plastead's (sp? - by the old bus station), it would have been so easy to do...
Window Cleaner Posted 5 December, 2008 Posted 5 December, 2008 How many pies would we need though? In the days of Plasted's, it would have been so easy to do... Has Plested's closed down then? End of the world is nigh.
Fowllyd Posted 5 December, 2008 Posted 5 December, 2008 Has Plested's closed down then? End of the world is nigh. By crackey that was a fast response. Plested's - I think you have it there. If they still exist as a top-notch pie seller, it certainly isn't where they used to be, not least as the building they were in is no more. I think we're into snows of yesteryear territory here.

I used to love them pies, when ah was a kid it was a real treat fter being dragged round the shops of a Saturday. Got to eat them on the bus home, gravy dripping everywhere,on the clothes, on the bus seats, beurrk, bet there's a law against that nowadays. Remember the old signs on the buses? No spitting or smoking on the bottom deck.Don't know if that meant you could spit on the top deck though.
BGF Posted 5 December, 2008 Posted 5 December, 2008 I know Plested pies as "Grand Theater Pies" as they used to be behind the Grand Theater which is where about where Matalan is now.
Fowllyd Posted 5 December, 2008 Posted 5 December, 2008 Oh lordy lordy! I remember that place so well. Best apple pies ever Not just the apple ones - their individual steak and kidney pies were a treat. Not too much kidney, as I recall. Let's face it, nostalgia ain't what it used to be!

What's not to like? This thread has been moved to the Muppet Show I see - where's the dedicated Plested's Pies board then? Oh - spitting off the top deck would probably make more sense... But you sound like a rebellious type, who may have contemplated speaking to the driver when the bus was moving. Now that would be scary!
Toomer Posted 5 December, 2008 Posted 5 December, 2008 A Plested pie from the shop in Windsor Terrace then into the Lord Louis and then onto the match.
Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 Aren't they in Shirley High Street still? What about the East Street branch; has that closed down?
Scudamore Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 I can confirm there is Plested Pies in Christchurch if you need a fix. I'm sure the secret to their pasties is Paxo stuffing...lovely stuff...
