Avenue Saint Posted 24 July, 2013 Posted 24 July, 2013 I thought we all agreed after Peaches article on MLT he was a terrible, sh*t stirring jounrnalist with an agenda against Saints who didn't know what he was doing and made things up from snippets he got on twitter? Give it a rest! You'll drive yourself mental...
Turkish Posted 24 July, 2013 Posted 24 July, 2013 Give it a rest! You'll drive yourself mental... Not at all. Here for all to see http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?40632-Le-Tissier-quot-Cortese-is-not-a-nice-human-being-quot#.Ue-tmxG9KSM
Saint Garrett Posted 24 July, 2013 Author Posted 24 July, 2013 If it is Naughton, then that's an interesting one, can play either side as well. Good player - weren't we after him last year too?
Turkish Posted 24 July, 2013 Posted 24 July, 2013 Perfect as a squad player and good cover for either side. Be happy with that.
SNSUN Posted 24 July, 2013 Posted 24 July, 2013 It's Kyle Naughton. He'd be a good signing if true. Can play both full back positions and only 24.
Miltonaggro Posted 24 July, 2013 Posted 24 July, 2013 Good shout Naughton, strong and quick and cover both sides. Would appear to be an excellent fit...

Jez Posted 24 July, 2013 Posted 24 July, 2013 It's Kyle Naughton. Where is he being linked with us? In the Echo?
JoeShmoe Posted 24 July, 2013 Posted 24 July, 2013 Why is Naughton going to want to come here and back up Clyne and Shaw? Unless we regularly rotate to rest Shaw?
saint1977 Posted 24 July, 2013 Posted 24 July, 2013 Kyle Naughton - yes please, good quick 2 footed full back. Did well for Norwich and I can't remember who he was on loan to before that but again seemed to do well. Started out at Sheff Utd and then Spurs paid comparatively big money for him and then Kyle Walker. Wonder how much Spurs would want for him?
Window Cleaner Posted 24 July, 2013 Posted 24 July, 2013 Why is Naughton going to want to come here and back up Clyne and Shaw? Unless we regularly rotate to rest Shaw? not so sure that he'd be back up to either of them actually..
Matthew Le God Posted 24 July, 2013 Posted 24 July, 2013 Why is Naughton going to want to come here and back up Clyne and Shaw? Unless we regularly rotate to rest Shaw? Danny Fox, Frazer Richardson Maya Yoshida and Jack Cork played around 30 games at full back for Southampton last season. Naughton would get a lot of games.
Saint Charlie Posted 24 July, 2013 Posted 24 July, 2013 Just a thought, but Shaw would appear to have the attributes to also play further forward if needed.
Pastor Patrón Posted 24 July, 2013 Posted 24 July, 2013 Just a thought, but Shaw would appear to have the attributes to also play further forward if needed. In that he plays on the left?
The9 Posted 24 July, 2013 Posted 24 July, 2013 (edited) the idea of putting a centre back at full back fills me with dread. By and large it doesn't work IMO (Stoke game apart). Maybe for a one off game, but if Clyne gets injured we might need someone that can play 15-20 games. Sam Byram perhaps? Can't say it bothers me much, plenty of successful sides have played CBs at FB, including plenty of Man U teams and they don't appear to have much trouble with it. Silvestre, Wes Brown, Heinze all did both. Saints also had an all CB back 4 for a while in one match in League One when Martin and Seaborne filled the full back positions for a bit, though I accept that's not particularly relevant to the discussion only a few years later. Pochettino himself played in Argentinian sides with 4 CBs, though that was probably as much to do with Maradona being mental as anything. The only concern would be if we picked players there who weren't suited to the needs of the position, which for us with the FBs hanging around the halfway line at goal kicks are usually based more in attacking abilities and pace than defensive qualities (though obviously the FBs do need to be able to defend too). sfc4prem Posted 24 July, 2013 Posted 24 July, 2013 Why is it Kyle Naughton? Seen no sites link us to him this transfer window...
SuperSAINT Posted 24 July, 2013 Posted 24 July, 2013 Why is it Kyle Naughton? Seen no sites link us to him this transfer window... Because it came from Simon Peach (Who was the origin of this rumour in the 1st place)
Turkish Posted 24 July, 2013 Posted 24 July, 2013 Why is it Kyle Naughton? Seen no sites link us to him this transfer window... Story will break soon sunshine, dont you worry about that. another Turkish exclusiv.
Saint Charlie Posted 24 July, 2013 Posted 24 July, 2013 In that he plays on the left? In that he is quick, powerful, glides past players, appreciates the defensive side of the game, good on the ball, calm in possession etc.
Pastor Patrón Posted 24 July, 2013 Posted 24 July, 2013 In that he is quick, powerful, glides past players, appreciates the defensive side of the game, good on the ball, calm in possession etc. They're pretty generic traits that would apply to almost any position. He's not great at running past people and his crossing is pretty awful, he's a LB.
Chez Posted 24 July, 2013 Posted 24 July, 2013 I first saw Naughton against us when he played for Sheff United and he was head and shoulders above the rest. Not seen a lot of him since the move to Spurs. How was he at Norwich? Surprised they didn't sign him.

Silvestre, Wes Brown, Heinze all did both. I thought Heinze was a left back by trade? Anyway I'd argue that when United played O'Shea at fullback he was absolutely woeful there and a massive weak link. Perhaps how poor he was didn't hurt United because they had Ferdidand, Vidic, Rooney.... Perhaps this has more to do with the type and quality of player. Wes Brown for example is pacey and far from unsuited to playing at fullback.
dan17 Posted 24 July, 2013 Posted 24 July, 2013 Not a particularly reliable source but for what its worth http://www.clubcall.com/southampton/spurs-full-back-interests-saints-1609614.html?

patred44 Posted 24 July, 2013 Posted 24 July, 2013 we had scouts at Colchester last night watching Aaron Creswell, predominately a left back , but is equally as good on the right.
itchen_dan Posted 24 July, 2013 Posted 24 July, 2013 Is it only me who thinks Naughton is a better all round defender than Walker? Walker is better going forward but Naughton is a very very solid player. Actually not afraid to admit I said this time last year that I'd prefer Naughton to Clyne but was proved wrong on that assumption. Naughton would still be a very good option to have.

Naughton a good player and would be a great signing for around 5m, but at this stage of his career he needs to be a first choice. He would certainly get games at Saints, but IMO, isn't a better RB than Clyne, or anywhere near the level of Shaw.

You weren't lay the only one. Was mainly based on Naughton having PL experience already. Agreed he'd be a very good option for us, we'd be sorted at full back then with Naughton and Clyne for RB, Shaw and Fox At LB with Clyne and Naughton also being able to do a job on that side.
Colinjb Posted 24 July, 2013 Posted 24 July, 2013 Naughton would be utterly perfect for us. Good enough in his own right to step into the first team while also capable of covering either full back position. Supplements and supports our two youngsters without undermining them.
S-Clarke Posted 24 July, 2013 Posted 24 July, 2013 I like Naughton, good player. But I do like the look of young Chambers at full back.........
ottery st mary Posted 24 July, 2013 Posted 24 July, 2013 Agree with above...Chambers looks very useful.... Strong in the air..turn of speed ...gets stuck in... Good all round game..
Saint Garrett Posted 24 July, 2013 Author Posted 24 July, 2013 Alex Goring Crook @alex_crook 17m Also vibes are #saintsfc are not interested in Kyle Naughton Probably interested then.
