Saints trip to Austria

I am a bit confused.

Isnt the hotel Schloss Velden ? Villach isnt on the Wörthersee. That photo posted above is definitely Velden on the Wörthersee.

Also, I understand that the training is at the ground of ATUS Velden, which is very near the hotel. The Lind stadium where the games take place, which as you rightly mentioned has a sports track around, is the home from Villacher SV.

I also wonder if the club officials realise there is a big f**k off party in Velden all-night-long on Friday, called Fete Blanche, where everyone turns up dressed head-to-toe in white and gets absolutely smashed. Not very restful !!!

Villach is 24 km from the training ground. This is where I'm based

I will go down to the training ground around 10am and will sit on the terrace and watch the training hopefully as a guest of the groundsman. My new friend. I will be at the stadium 2 hours before t he match to make sure I get tickets.

Maybe I'll see you you there Alpine.

We've already been informed by experts on the other thread that it is not necessary to turn up a couple of hours ahead. Assurances have been given by those who have followed Saints all over the place that 5 minutes will be amply sufficient. ;)

I'm aiming for 4:30 at the ground. Have to go home and pick the kids up after work. Might do as you suggest tomorrow for training.

Not sure who I should make myself known to this evening, to be honest... ;) I do get some pretty agressive and threatening comments on here from some.

I noticed that Schalke only made 3 half time changes when they drew 1-1 with Besiktas at the weekend. Another 3 or 4 around the 65 minute mark. Pretty different to Saints 10 or 11 half time changes.

Their season starts a week earlier so thay are probably a week ahead of us fitness wise. There's also a big difference between playing matches against lower league opponents like we did an a proper test like a match against Besiktas where its not just about match fitness. I expects MP to have not play two teams like he did earlier and not making as manybchanges early in the match.

Good morning all!! Excited about the day. My son wants to meet Wanyama so let's make that happen.

Excited about the day.

Alpine I would be delighted to meet you. Any supporter of Saints is a friend of mine.

As for the game it will be tough and It will be interesting to see how Saints squad plays against Schalke's strongest team.

Have a great day all!

Don't wear that tee shirt with the dartboard printed on the back mate.

Thanks. I would probably buy you one back, too. :)

Just for anyone travelling to the Besiktas match, kick off has been put back to 18:30. Hope that doesnt screw up travelling-home plans.

Don't be daft, real life is different from a web forum and meeting fellow Saints and kindred spirits will be uplifting !

We have also had some verbal spats on here but I would happily meet up and have a beer if I was going !

I notice we've been training this morning, again ahead of a game tonight. I know Pochettino is a fan of the double-session during a regular season, so pre-season training must be very tough but I've never seen clubs train the same day as a pre-season game before. Given the standard of opposition in Spain I didn't think much of it but we're playing Champions League calibre opposition this evening and we've just spent the morning training :uhoh:

So tonight I wouldn't expect much of a result as it seems the game is being used as a different method of improving fitness more than anything else - I bet the players legs are feeling very heavy right now. In the wider context though, do we really have the squad depth to be able to absorb the inevitable tiredness and fatigue that will creep in during the second half of the season? I know some clubs approach pre-season training in a way that is designed to get the player in a shape where their fitness improves over the course of the season, but the work we're doing suggests to me that we're getting the players very sharp for the start of the season with the risk that as it wears on we're more exposed to tiredness and fatigue.

Ah ok, now I know why they packed last season's away kit.

Do it, introduce yourself and have a chat with some fellow Saints. To be totally honest, you don't half come across as a bit of a tit on this board but I'd happily shake your hand and chat Saints with you over a beer even if we disagreed about absolutely everything. Any "threats" you get on here will be from daft keyboard warriors who would do no more than give you a dirty look in real life.

I think you'll find that's because the Bundesliga kicks off proper on August 9th - a full 8-days before ours - and probably therefore the Schalke boss wants his first choice team playing as much football as possible in order to get fit, etc.

I'd have no qualms at all having a Villacher beer with Alpine even if our opinions might differ on matters relating to Saints and it is encouraging to hear others say the same. I respect that he at least comes across as holding opinions that he is sincere about and is prepared to fight his corner often in the face of hostility and insults, which I admire. At least he is prepared to debate issues often, if treated civilly, which is more than can be said of some whose response to any opinion that doesn't correspond with theirs is either to resort to insults or sarcasm.

This is a great opportunity for him and his family to see the team play right on his doorstep and to meet fellow fans and I hope that he has a really good time.

I think I'd probably laugh a bit and then say "nice to meet you".

Based on the few times I've been "outed" IRL to people at matches who started mentioning SaintsWeb without knowing I was also a poster, people generally seem to be "oh really, that's you is it?" and then get on with it... sometimes after I've explained myself, admittedly. I have stopped introducing myself to teammates at IFC matches though. ;)

I've just had an hillarious phone call from the missus.

The mother of one of my sons's classmates has just called her.

One of her friends is working at Schloss Velden, where Saints are staying.

Apparently the staff down there are having a few "communication problems" with the large number of English-speakers in the hotel. I do not know if this specifically refers to our lads or not.

My wife has been asked to run some conversational English classes for a couple of the staff who understand English well but are shy of talking it (a common problem over here).

There was a pic of Pochettino with a bandage on his leg on the OS yesterday, I believe.

probably put in a few crunching tackles in training to show our CBs how it's done, especially after they conceded 2 soft goals on Wednesday. Bet Poch wouldn't have conceded either of them even at 40 odd.

perhaps on other occasions yes but in those 2 incidents all that was needed was to steer the ball away at the appropriate moment.

Just a warm up game so it's of no great import unless it happens in a real game. Then again Boruc would probably have held onto the first shot for the first goal.

Was at Training both Morning and evening today. The Players are beginning to recognize us now and Mr Cortese is also waving back. Having a blast!!!!

I have a theory that Boruc is not playing because he returned one day late and missed the first day of preseason training???

Think your theory is wrong as didn't Boruc play in Spain?

There is something with Boruc and MP. I did hear that 1 player didn't report back to preseason on time.

Also interesting to note that all players bike to training & Boruc is always first.

I think he has something to prove to MP.

Does look a bit overweight. Be interesting to see if he plays tomorrow.

I cannot see too many wanting to have a beer with you though. Please all learn from my mistake its not worth it!

Alpine as Torres and Nike say, just do it! There are many good people on these forums and at least you know you have one thing in common so you should not get stuck for a subject to talk about.

Boruc and the rest of the squad are in fantastic condition. Although he does walk a little funny

Has Clyne trained the last couple of days? Couldn't see him in the gallery and Crook had mentioned he was speaking to him but then didnt, wonder if he might have picked up a knock?

Pretty sure with Boruc they just wanted the other keepers to get game time as well and expect he will figure more heavily as we move towards the WBA game.

Hmm maybe MP & the gangare taking the chance to see whether they are actually up to the job of being back up should we lose Boruc to injury....:suspicious:

Think we all know the answer to that

I didn't see Clyne at training today although I was watching Maya and Ramirez going through condition training with Ben. MP was watching over them. Ramirez has a slight Achilles problem. Training was light today in 30 degrees heat.

Looking forward to the match tonight.

Lloyd Isgrove is a lovely young man. It will be interesting if Boruc or KD starts.
