Saints trip to Austria

Can anyone who is ITK help with a little detective work ?

Saints are training in Velden, and playing in Villach. I am therefore assuming they are flying into Klagenfurt.

I just look at the arrivals schedule for today, and there is a completely non-scheduled flight ex-Gerona (Spain) coming in at 14:00. I was thinking this must be them.

I thought I might take the kids down and welcome them, get a couple of photos.

Can anyone confirm this is them ?

Thanks.

Best to tweet @Jordansibley, @SouthamptonFC, @JFBlucas or @TomCoull. Sure one of them accounts will reply with some answers.

Just looked on a map. The Peralada training camp is only 50Km from Gerona. Must be them.

Having second thoughts now. After this thread, it will be obvious who the middle-aged portly man stood politely clapping them as they come through will be. One of them might tw*t me. I am betting it will be Ramirez.

The Kit was sent by truck.

There, that's the extent of my ITKness from Twitter last night

and it will be naff all help

Just a thought though, they may be more concerned about getting straight out and onto the bus, possibly even being Shengen & private the bus may go straight out to the plane, have seen that happen at an event before

Sorry Alpine Saint but i simply cannot resist......(in the style of the Fast Show character who always used to say "you did'nt want to do this you wanted to do that ".....

"You did'nt want to get the 14.00, you wanted to get the 08.00, that's way too late in the day to be catching a plane. When will Saints learn to get their flights in early in the day so that they can arrive nice and fresh and rested by lunchtime and train in the afternoon. Its just typical of the late-in -the-day last minute thinking that proliferates at SFC, late for planes, late for transfers its all part and parcel of the same late late late attitude.....:-).

Now I DO not believe you wanted to say "Fast Show", you wanted to say "Harry Enfield's Television Programme".

I have just arrived at my Hotel in Villach. Does anybody know which hotel they are staying at. What time they are training etc. Would be grateful for some help. Will be leaving shortly by car to check out the stadium and training area. I will post any info that I kind get hold of.

I think its fair to say that the posters who attract the most "reaction" (lets call it - to keep it nice n friendly) are those that have a reputation for either dishing out the same or for whom a discussion appears to be a statement of their own (often tunnel vision) views followed by scorn to anyone who disagrees.

There are also those who trade in handle turning (Ok - I mean WUMs) and for whom there is a no such thing as a civil response - just vitriol - to achieve that aim.

And of course I am not stating that Alpine Saint belongs to either of these groups.

Feel free to disagree with this observation - and I will be happy to develop the discussion in a civil manner.

Or maybe I'll sign off and eat ma dinner !

p.s. - my low post count does not indicate that I am a newbie to the forum - just that I read lots and post little.

They play cricket in Austria!!

There are 3 cricket grounds in Austria, and about 6 teams. Mostly run by colonial ex-pats. They get guest teams over from the UK, and from Czech Republic and Slovenia (also colonial ex-pats).

What is very suprising is the amount of clubs sprouting up around Europe made up of Afghan refugess. Apparently they are VERY good, and it goes some way to explain why Afghanistan is shooting up the ICC rankings. Afghanistan is really embracing cricket.

If you haven't seen this film then I highly recommend you do.

Ok so I found the training ground at Sportplatz, Villach. Met the Saints staff who were putting the Saints perimeter advertising around 3 sides of the training ground. They told me that Saints are staying at Schloss Villach.

So I went with my son & father to the hotel and met Mr Cortese (who broke his leg whilst walking in Switzerland) along with Rickie & Kelvin.

They've used the new Saints coach for the first time and it looks amazing. The hotel is the best in Wörtersee and it mUst be costing a fortune.

The funniest thing for me was seeing Cortese on crutches & watching the trainers filling the training water bottles with bottled water. The drinking water here is probably the best in Europe.

Training tonight and tomorrow will be intense and expect 2 different sides for both halves. MP will make sure that the players are tired before they play the matches to increase fitness.

Training pitch and Stadium pitch are excellent.

What a little stadium with an athletics track around. Schalke will have one half of the stadium as they are bringing about a 1000 supporters.

Looking forward to watching training and the match tomorrow.

I am a bit confused.

Isnt the hotel Schloss Velden ? Villach isnt on the Wörthersee. That photo posted above is definitely Velden on the Wörthersee.

Also, I understand that the training is at the ground of ATUS Velden, which is very near the hotel. The Lind stadium where the games take place, which as you rightly mentioned has a sports track around, is the home from Villacher SV.

I also wonder if the club officials realise there is a big f**k off party in Velden all-night-long on Friday, called Fete Blanche, where everyone turns up dressed head-to-toe in white and gets absolutely smashed. Not very restful !!!
