A 25 man squad with ideally 2 for each position - who are they at present?

Goalkeepers : Boruc, KD, Gazza

Full backs, left sided : Shaw, Fox,

Full backs Right sided : Clyne, Chambers(?)

Centre-backs : Fonte, Lovren, Jos, Yoshida, Stephens

Midfield defensive : Cork, Bigvic, SD, Scheiderlin, JWP.

Midfield attack : GR, AL, JP, Guly, Isgrove

Strikers: SRL, Mayuka, Jrod.

That equals 25.

We got enough goalies.

We are short at Right FB as our cover is inexperienced- but so was Shaw last year and I think we have players that can cover that. But its a gamble- if Clyne gets injured I expect a purchase/loaner who will go straight in.

We got enough CB's.If they are good enough is a different question, but we wont take more without shipping one out I think. It should be Maya and Lovren but if they get taken apart then Jose will have to step in to settle things whilst Jos might play against big hoof it teams like west ham and stoke etc. Stephens to get first team squad cup matches perhaps.

We got enough defensive midfielders. Our strongest area by far.

Midfield attack looks a bit in need of high quality addition. They need to perform better than last year that lot - too inconsistent. No wonder we are looking at alternates, Adam and Gaston did not really deliver, it was left to JP to clean up his act and inject some offensive forays shots and goals really but not consistently. Guly was Guly. Maybe Isgrove will be this years Luke Shaw if and when he gets his chance.

Strikers : Short of a SRL cover/replacement. At present its Guly. So its the most obvious weakness in the squad. I think this year Jrod will be ever-present and Mayuka an "if we are losing" late substitution.

Is that fair - or have i got the numbers wrong?

Not if he gets injured between 2nd September and 1st January and 1st February and the end of the season.

I had not taken that into account.

Is Cork the de facto replacement or would it be a centre-back put in there like Lovren say, or is Chambers on a similar level to Shaw of 12 months ago and could quite possibly make the step up? I know next to nothing about him.

Thought under 21's don't count in the 25 so Shaw, Stephens, Chambers, Isgrove and JWP wouldn't be counted

With at least two for each position I just put out the best players we got realistically available ie not billy sharp etc that adds up to 25 (i think!)

Wanyama? He was only 21 on 1st January this year I think

To count as an under 21 and not have to be included on the 25 man list for 2013/14 you have to be born on or after 1st January 1992.

- Paulo Gazzaniga was born on 2nd January 1992, so still counts (just! :D) as an under 21 player for Saints in 2013/14.

- Victor Wanyama was born on 25th June 1991, so doesn't count as an under 21 player and has to be included as one of the 25 man squad.

Also, if you don't fill a 25 man squad, all players at the club over 21 must be named, so don;t be surprised if you see Lee Barnard or Jonno Forte on there.

As happened last year.

Let's hope they are sold/released/sent on season long loans before the list needs to be finalised.

Cork is a bloody terrible right back who I've never seen play even averagely in that position. We'd be insane to consider him the back up.

I do think getting in a RB cover would be wise but like many say, it's hard to find one good enough and willing to be back up. also it would be hindering the progress of the likes of chambers. tough decision to make and one our manager is paid to make

Leicester away Sept 2011?

I wasn't there, playing them a zillion times in cup competitions as well as endlessly in the Championship between 2005-2009 has sapped any will to revisit Leicester I may have had. It's nice to know he might have been good there one time though, cos his effort at defending Sissoko's run at Newcastle for their first goal up there last season was pathetic for a bloke that's meant to be able to play there.
